Much like pouring water down the drain. Sure, the stoma on an unfilled band is smaller than your kitchen sink drain, but water will go right through. Think of it as being the size of a straw. If you have a kitchen funnel, pour water into it. If you pour REALLY fast into the funnel it'll back up, but only for a few seconds. And you can't drink THAT fast unless you're a pretty experienced beer chugger..... So, don't worry. I know that's easier said than done, since we all worried BEFORE surgery, and we all worried AFTER surgery, and SOME of us worry all the time (I'm not one of them, though). Nothing wrong with a little worry as long as you don't let it consume you. dan " Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there. Guest guest
Hi, Welcome! you are in liquid stage, yes it goes right thru and you will not feel full. Not untill you start getting the " fills " normally 3 or 4, that you will began to feel the full/satisfaction sensation. You are at the healing stage, all the stitches in and out are healing as well as your stoma. DO NOT EAT ANYTHING SOLID, until the time is permited in accordance with the paperwork given to you. Any weight loss at this time is a plus. And please DO NOT lift, push or pull anything. I did push my mom in a weelchair all to find out that my port start hurting for a long time, then I was afraid to go for a fill because it was still tender and all what I did was to have a very very slow start. Follow the instruction exactly and prescribed. Congratulations! Lidia flnbtr123 <flnbtr123@...> wrote: I'm a brand new bandster...this is day 5 for me. Guest guest
Welcome! Great answers already! The band only works with solid foods, as all liquid and even soft foods go thru quickly. THis is why we will stress SOLID foods only, later, when you're back to regular foods. Keep the faith! Sandy R > > I'm a brand new bandster...this is day 5 for me. Guest guest
- Hello I had my band done on April 24, 2007 and I had the same issue as you are having. I called my dr and was told that I would not have the full feeling until I started having fills. They told me that all they done in surgery was place the band not put any solution in it. It was nearly 6 weeks until I could get a fill and I noticed a change right away and then about 4 wks. later I was able to eat more and so I got another fill and then that one lasted about 6 wks till i got another. I have had 5 fills and my last one was Dec 4th and it is still holding and I am still losing weight weekly. As of last week when I seen my general dr I had lost a total of 147 pounds. I am thrilled for what the band has done for me. I have not even had it a year and I have lost an entire person. I was at a very large weight when I started so I still have a way to go but I know with the band I am going to succeed with something I have dealt with for my entire 42 years. It has been a battle but it is one I am finally winning! Good luck with your band and hold out for the fill and once you get a fill you will have the restrtiction, and if you do not get enough restriction call for another fill. You will know when you are where you need to be. Leigh ann -- In , " flnbtr123 " <flnbtr123@...> wrote: > > I'm a brand new bandster...this is day 5 for me. Guest guest
Everything you need to know is explained in full in the " Files " section. Just click on files on the top left of the page. In there you will find a file: " HCG INSTRUCTIONS " This will tell you everything you need to know about HCG. What to buy, where to buy it, what to do, how to do it. We tried to think of literally everything and put it all there in one place. Read it over as many times as necessary to absorb all the info. I recommend you print out a copy for easy access. We are not doctors. These are meant as suggestions only. I highly recommend you consult a physician if you have any concerns or questions. Guest guest
Hi Laurie My name is Deborah and I too live in N. CA, over by Clearlake in Kelseyville. I went to Dr. Aceves in Feb. of 07 and went there for my first sill as well. I went to a Dr. in SF for my 2nd fill and had a horrible experience. I may need another slight fill soon, and if so, I will return to Mexico. There is one Dr. who goes to Truckee once a month and I hear he is good. We ski in Tahoe so I may be able to coordinate a trip up there and see him at the same time. If you want to talk on the phone you can email me and I will send you my phone number. My email is: Dstu98@...
Guest guest
Laurie,Welcome to the group. An emergency that requires an unfill is VERY RARE. There maybe a case or two, but most all issues with the band can wait until you get back to Mexicali. Has anyone needed to see a Dr. ASAP due to band issues? Just curious. I hope someone can recommend a Dr. to you that you will feel comfortable with in your area, but like I have been saying lately, try to get back to Dr. A for aftercare.Good luck with everything and let us know if you have any questions we can help with.http://www.mexicolapband.com/ Cyrena

Guest guest
To tkmn and IOWL: Hello! It is lovely to see activity in this group! As a friend tells me, recovery is about ACTION!! I did in fact listen to episodes 016 and 017 about relaxed intent. What really sticks with me in this idea of wanting something soooo badly that it actually inhibits us from getting it! It's almost like we focus so much energy on that thing we want and perhaps our expectations become too high? I don't really know. suggests practicing simultaneously WANTING something (weightloss?) sooo badly while letting it go, not REALLY getting too upset at the thought of not having what we want. Decide what you DO want and then imagine NOT having that... and practice being OK (i.e. serene) with it... it's interesting for me and really does make me feel relaxed and at peace with myself at this moment. I do believe that TIME is the answer to most questions. All we have is Time and It is such a blessing! All we can do is be patient with ourselves and allow Time to help us. Meanwhile, we can PRACTICE actions that make us feel good about ourselves. The past is gone and NOW IS NOW IS NOW. u know? On Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 2:10 PM, <tkmn@...> wrote: > > > Wow Carly. Guest guest
I have recently been diagnosed with seronegative RA and have begun treatment with prednisone. It hasn't bothered me much so far and has given some relief. But now my RD wants me to take methotrexate and the list of side effects scares me. Just how dangerous is this stuff? Should I be very worried about taking it. I know I need to treat this RA pretty quick to ward off damage. I am really conflicted. Help! Guest guest
Amy, I've been on mtx for 11 years now with WONDERFUL results. What you should be afraid of is the prednisone. Guest guest
Hi Amy.  You are correct. Your RA treatment needs to be agressive to save your joints, and stop any future damage.  I am starting my 7th year with RA. My Rheumy started me immediately with MTX, and Prednisone. She wanted to see how I did with these first before adding another medicine. The following year she added Placquenil, and Sulfasalazine. I have taken these meds. successfully and no problems with any of them. I have blood work done every 3 months, and all my blood work is fine. I have had no issues with my Liver either.  I never read the side effects of all these medicines. I just knew I had to feel better, get out of all my pain and suffering. I took whatever she thought I needed to take for my RA.  I have been in a medicine induced remission for almost 2 years now. I have no pain, swelling or any symptons of RA. I was recently diagnosed with Neuropathy in both of my feet. My Rheumy started me on Lyrica and within 3 weeks all the nerve pain in my feet disappeared.  Everyone here is different. What meds work for one, may not work for another. We all just search for our " cocktail " of meds. that will make us feel better.  I thought my life was over when I found out that I had RA. I pretty much can do most of what I did before. Some things I just had to do differently. My Rheumy has always insisted that I rest each afternoon no matter what. I also had to learn to pace myself which was difficult for me to do and I did master it. My life is good now and I am very thankful for that. I have a wonderful Rheumy who is so good to me, listens to me, takes her time, and who is also very smart. I am lucky I found her.  I hope this gives you some idea of what needs to be done for your RA. I wish you good luck with your RA meds., and I hope you have a wonderful Rheumy who will take great care of you.  Hugs,  Barbara From: Amy <pikesridge@...> Subject: [ ] I'm a newbie Date: Monday, March 14, 2011, 11:09 AM  I have recently been diagnosed with seronegative RA and have begun treatment with prednisone. Guest guest
I am much more afraid of prednisone than I am of mtx. Guest guest
Hi Amy, I am on Methotrexate as well, and have had a few mouthsores that impoved with Folic Acid. Prednisone is great short term, but long term can have lots of problems such as weight gain, increased blood pressure, wild mood swings, etc.  Take care, denise
Guest guest
Amy, I agree with . If you do have too many adverse side effects from the methotrexate, your doctor can switch you to something else. Also, RA with the joint damage that it can do is much scarier than the drugs. Guest guest
lol, yes I had a gastric bypass after 5 years of long term prednisone treatment and am now dx w bipolar disorder from the results of prednisone on my moods. Luckily it is not extreme and I am doing well on my newer meds mtx and ultram. Prednisone shouild only be used short term unless there are severe health reasons for it such as for transplant patients. ladeyangll ________________________________ From: Symens <denisesymens@...> Sent: Mon, March 14, 2011 5:26:15 PM Subject: Re: [ ] I'm a newbie  Hi Amy, I am on Methotrexate as well, and have had a few mouthsores that impoved with Folic Acid. Prednisone is great short term, but long term can have lots of problems such as weight gain, increased blood pressure, wild mood swings, etc.  Take care, denise
Guest guest
My rhuemy doesn't want to give me anything but prednisone because of autoimmune liver issue I already have. Doesn't it make a difference on the dosage of pred on the long-term effects? I read in a book about RA that 7.5 mg is about the same as the cortisone our body produces naturally? Of course, that dose doesn't do me much good but 10 mg really makes a difference. Sue L.
