Guest guest
Just a suggestion to help keep those on both sides of this issue happy....how about if the people who are responding to a personal post write/add the name of the person they are responding to in the subject line. That way, those who find personal interactions objectionable on this site can simply skip the post without even opening it and move on but the rest have the option of reading it and perhaps joining in the discussion. Re: Newbie Intro and if I were just joining, and read your messages, I would be completey turned off. > Experience that would help the group as a whole ia great, but not the kind of mail you've been putting on this site. Actually, as someone who just joined last night, I was anthing BUT turned off by seeing that some members were 'chatting' about other things than depression and anxiety. It says a lot about the power of friendship in recovery and I was very happy to see that there were personal messages and real relationships on this board. If I wanted hard facts, I could search the web, DSM-IV, or constantly badger my doctor with questions. The 'real people' connection and learning from their experience is what I was looking for, and I am happy to have found this group just the way it is. IMO, we all have the option to delete messages that do not appeal to us, and it's nice to have the option to read that other people have begun friendships online. It's a very positive thing for THIS newbie to read. Respectfully, Florie
Guest guest
Welcome and congrats on your weight loss. I love BFL, and I agree with you that it is essential to exercise to keep the weight off. Guest guest
Hi! My name is Aliza, and your post caught my eye particularly because I'm a Weight Watchers lifetime member. I'm 18 years old and I've lost 115 lbs with the program in the last 5 years. I thought I'd be totally happy when I hit goal, but I'm below my goal weight now, and I'm far from satisfied with my body. I'm starting BFL on Monday, and hoping to get in shape, tone my body, and gain lots of energy. (Hopefully without gaining too much weight!) Its good to know that someone else knows what its like to move from weight watchers to BFL. I'm personally very afraid of this transition. I wish you the best of luck. Happy Holidays! ~~~Aliza~~~ Re: Newbie Intro Welcome and congrats on your weight loss. I love BFL, and I agree with you that it is essential to exercise to keep the weight off. Guest guest
Hi Aliza: Remember that BFL isn't about the scale. As long as you are gaining muscle and losing fat, you shouldn't be so concerned about what you weigh. Muscle weighs more than fat so a little increase is probably to be expected so don't FREAK OUT! You will lose inches and measuring your body is probably a better indicator of progress. Congrats on losing all that weight! WOW, that is really an accomplishment. Adding muscle will not only improve your appearance but make you even healthier and help you to keep off weight gain. Keep in touch as we make our weight through the first 12 weeks of BFL. And just think, because you lost all that fat, all of your new muscles will really show up and you will look ripped and great. I'm starting tomorrow, and although I am really excited, I still cant help but be a little nervous about it all. Guest guest
Welcome, ! I'm so glad you've joined our group. I've never heard of anyone with a result of .5% on an iodine/iodide urine test. That is incredibly low. Did Dr B say anything about it? Sure sounds like your symptoms are iodine related! Sounds like you have some heavy duty issues. I'm so glad you are working with someone as knowledgeable in this area as Dr. B. 12 blood vials, plus other saliva and blood samples. That's a lot of tests! I'll be very interested to hear how things go. Keep us posted. We're glad you are here! Zoe Newbie Intro Just wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself. I joined a few days ago but have been lurking for a while. About me: I am 40 years old and live in West Michigan. I was dx'd with Papillary Thyroid cancer in March 2000. I followed the "allopathic" way of doing things for 5 years and underwent a total thyroidectomy (in 2 surgeries) and then 3 rounds of radioactive iodine (5/00 - 100 mCi's, 1/01-150 mCi's, 5/05-250 mCi's). In December '05 I had had enough of the traditional way of thinking. I was feeling worse and worse and the only thing my Endo would offer is Synthetic T4 (aka Synthroid) and anti-depressants. I knew this wasn't the answer so I sought the help of a naturopathic physician. He has helped me detox my liver and get a better nutritional and exercise plan in place. But in May of last year my cancer markers rose again and off to RAI I went. It was awful. Now at my limit of the max lifetime dosage amount I began seeking more answers. In January when I had my markers checked they were again elevated. My Endo spoke of external beam radiation. NOPE - not going there. Done!!!! My ND & I decided that I should get on the list to see Dr. Brownstein and that's how I ended up here! I am now on Armour Thyroid and feeling better. Had my first Appt with Dr. B on 2/14. Had my blood tests run last week Monday (12 vials worth) and have given blood and saliva sample to Dr. B in his office on the day I had my appt. He is using them for his clinical study on Thyroid Cancer patients in reference to low iodine levels. I do not know my levels - have never had them tested. I do know that when I had to have RAI I was instructed to go on a low iodine diet and for my second one my endo did an Iodine/Iodide output test of my urine and I ended up at .5% - the lowest he had ever seen anyone in his many years of practice. I am wondering how on earth this was supposed to be put back into my body once depleted with it being very limited in food - plus I am allergic to seafood so I don't eat it. Over the last year I have developed cystic breasts and PCOS. I am seeing that this is tied into low iodine levels as well. It all makes sense as I read more and more. Anyway, I was interested about this group to find other Dr. Brownstein patients. I am 3/4 of the way through his Iodine book and have read Salt your Way to Health. Eager to learn more from all of you and Dr. B. I'll post my test info when I get it in the next week or two. Buist

Did Dr B say anything about it?<<< We didn't discuss it. It was part of my history "notes" that I gave to him to review. We have a phone consult on 3/20 to go over my records and my labs. I had way too much for the two of us to go through it all in my appt. >>>Sure sounds like your symptoms are iodine related! Sounds like you have some heavy duty issues. I'm so glad you are working with someone as knowledgeable in this area as Dr. B. <<<< Yes they are. My naturopath has done well with what he can but I needed an expert and that is what Dr. B is. I was so blessed to get in to see him. My appt was in August and they had a last minute cancellation so I had 7 hours to get prepared and to his office. >>>12 blood vials, plus other saliva and blood samples. That's a lot of tests! I'll be very interested to hear how things go. Keep us posted.<<< Don't forget the Urine sample too. LOL! I was scared to have that much drawn because I have had my veins collapse on 3 vials. It went well. I will let you know what I find out. Like I said my consult is on 3/20. I just got word that my Heavy Metals test is in process as well. Hopefully we will get to the bottom of all this soon! Buist

No, I made an appt for August in January of this year but due to a cancellation I was able to see him 6 mos sooner than I had scheduled. Make sense? So my first appt was 2/14, labs drawn 2/20 and now I am waiting for results to get back. On 3/20 we will go over my labs and decide the next plan of action. I live a little over 2 hours away from him which is why I have a phone consult. My next office appt will be 4/12. How about you? Are you one of his patients? I noticed you have been communicating via e-mail with him. Buist

I was diagnosed in 2004, I have only tried treatment once and it was not for that long. My doctor said I was not responding to treatment after 2 months and stopped it. I was going to try treatment again with a new doctor but my insurance doesn't cover that much of the cost of the meds so I am not doing it. Guest guest
Hi LoLo, The school CANNOT implement any sort of behavior plan or IEP change without your express permission. Do not let them bully you! If they continue to give you a hard time, take it to the next level. There tend to be statewide Special Ed departments which regulate all of the Spec. Ed. programs in schools, no matter what district they're in. It can't hurt to keep going up the ladder if you're not getting the results your child needs! Always keep in mind that you need to be your kids' biggest advocate, and if that involves jumping up and down, screaming, and making a HUGE stink to get what your child needs (not literally, of course!) then by all means, do it! Good luck! On 10/6/06, dorothygail90717 <lolo@...> wrote: Hi every one! My name is Lolo and I am 33 years old and the mother of four children. When you get a chance check out our Success Stories Folder. > > I am not sure how long I have had candida, but a crisis occurred recently that got my attention! After a 9-10 hour road trip, my ankles and feet swelled up. This was normal for me after road trips. Now I know the sugar was to blame! However, this time, the swelling didn't go down for 3+ weeks (usually it only took a couple days to go down)!! Also during this time I developed a rash on my chest. I already had psoriasis all over my scalp (still do and have been sorely tempted to shave my head numerous times!), but it had not gone past the scalp (now it has). This rash that started on my chest has done nothing but grow and move to other parts of my body...even after over one month on another candida diet. I realize now after reading the info in this group's files that I was still eating too many carbs. I use tea tree on my skin and will now be adding coconut oil. ==>My you've had a really rough time of it. Do know that the body externalizes healing and toxins to the skin in order to protect vital inner organs. That's great you will also be using coconut oil. Oil of oregano drops in coconut oil are also great for the skin, as well as tea tree oil. > > I also have a lump on my neck that I am hoping is a swollen lymph node. It moves around (not planted) and does not hurt. It is on my left side and I seem to have more issues on my left side than my right with swelling. Don't know what that's about. ==>My brother also gets lumps and swelling around his neck, which are lymph nodes caused mostly by a congested adrenal system. For more information about Adrenals see the first file in our Treatment Folder. Your body is definitely trying hard to get rid of toxins. You would be well advised to start doing coffee enemas - it's explained why in my article and also in the Adrenal article; see the Enema Folder for more details on how to do them, etc. ==>Also ensure you are doing dry skin brushing every day (or you can jump rope or rebound on a mini trampoline); start with 1 and gradually increase them. They are so very important for the adrenals. > I am 35 now and went to the doc on my 30th birthday for swelling in my joints. He tested me for arthritis. Test came back negative. He said what I was experiencing was just a part of aging!!! Now I realize that I was struggling with candida. ==>I don't think it is part of aging. That's crazy. I believe that arthritis is caused by toxins plus a lack of nutrients, particularly good fats - see the Arthritis Folder. > > I feel the experience of having this very visible candida rash has alerted me to serious things happening on the inside of me and that it is a blessing in disguise. I am finally motivated to really eat right and be healthy. I guess I'm one of those stubborn ones. ==>You are right that more serious things are going on. You've come to the right place. See the Skin Folder as well. > > Anyway, I'm eager to get started with Bee's program and let the healing begin! I've already learned so much and look forward to learning more, eating right, getting better and being able to help others in my situation. ==>That's wonderful. You'll never regret it my friend. Guest guest
Hello, I'd advise you to increase your water intake to help flush toxins. Swelling is a healing reaction. On this diet sometimes things get worse before they get better, but they will get better, so hang tight! It is a lot easier to act ourselves into new thinking than to think ourselves into a new action.
