Guest guest
Wanita thanks for your reply. I went to the healtfood store and bought some and actually I didn't like it in my coffee. So now I'm just going to try to do without. So far two days. I wasn't drinking a whole lot to begin with so I haven't had the normal withdrawals, thank goodness. I will try this stuff in tea, thanks for your help.~Kirby
Guest guest
I am using Sweetvia, I love it, it is almost too sweet sometimes you have to be real careful when measuring. Guest guest
Hi list, I've tried stevia. it tastes a bit like licorice. It is pretty strong so go very easy. I got the white powdered kind in a little shaker bottle so I can take it with me for tea and the like.It comes in the less refined bulk also I haven't tasted that. Guest guest
>You said that you bought some of the " Stevia " ...Have you tried it yet? I've >been wanting to get some myself...but afraid of the taste...How was it? > Short answer: It tastes great! Long answer: First I would like to reiterate what I posted immediately after the post to which you have replied: that post was not meant for this list! I was forwarding some information to my mother and included some personal comments for her. I accidentally hit " reply " instead of " forward " and it went to the group. I still feel kind of embarassed when people reply to it and copy it in their replies. On the other hand its not like I was saying anything gossipy or malicious. But I was addressing issues my mother and I have discussed with each other and didn't intend to start any discussion on this list. But here we are anyway, and I will answer your question! I LIKE Stevia. I think it tastes great, better than any artificial sweetener I've used. I haven't tried baking with it yet though, or freezing, but I'm intrigued by the possibility. It was always so frustrating not to be able to bake with some of the other sweeteners. I just tried a little bit of it straight on my finger just now to see what it tastes like alone, and actually it does taste a little bitter that way. I'm surprised because it only tastes sweet in my tea or on oatmeal so I hadn't noticed any bitterness before. But its very concentrated so you don't need to use very much of it to get a sweet flavor. There are two other things Stevia is supposed to be good for that I have noticed some help with and those are yeast overgrowth and quitting smoking. I found out about these after the facts, so to speak. I've noticed a reduction in my yeast symptoms (although who's to say what the cause is) and I did quit smoking 10 days ago and used the Stevia to sweeten my Lobelia tea. I can't say Stevia will make quitting easy, but its supposed to help (the Lobelia always helps me the most) and I enjoyed drinking all the sweetened tea I wanted without worrying about getting too much sugar. The brand I got is called Sweet Leaf Stevia Plus. It has FOS in it too, and I'm not sure whether its that " plus " part that has more to do with the reduction of yeast overgrowth, and is it in all the products?. There were a number of different products to choose from at the health food store so I just asked the lady who works in that section to recommend the best and most economical one. I had found Stevia in packets in the grocery section of the store, but they would have been much more expensive than the jar of powder that they had in the vitamin and herb section. It is expensive, but it does last because you only need to use small quantities, like fractions of a teaspoon at a time. I've been trying to wean myself off of my sugar-addiction tendencies and so far I would say the Stevia is helping. If I can only figure out how to make my own Stevia-sweetened chocolate I think I will be all set. I guess you can tell where my priorities lie, I gave up cigarettes before considering giving up my sugar and chocolate! I think I'm going to put in my will that when my body is cremated fudge must be cooked with the heat given off. I don't think its possible to make fudge with Stevia though because you have to have the sugar to get the right fudgy consistency. Does anyone know any way around this? But maybe a mousse... Guest guest
Sabra and all Try STEVIA in LIQUID form. It is not so licorice tasting. and a few drops goes a LOOOOOOOOOOONG way! ;-) And it tastes much better than the powder form. I sometimes mix it with Sweet One in coffee. Guest guest
I have been using stevia for a few weeks. Generally, I've been getting used to eating things without a sweetener, like my oatmeal. I good quality vanilla extract (you can get them without alcohol) and cinnamon are good in oatmeal, IMHO. But, I put stevia in my plain yoghurt and I like it, as long as I don't put too much. Guest guest
In reply to Chestnut's I recommend the website www.bachflowers.com to any of you are experiencing such psychological issues as depression or confusion. The natural flower remedies are wonderful and I have had wonderful success with them on myself, family members and friends. I would point out that Bach flower remedies (and homeopathic pillules) contain SUGAR and should not therefore be used by candida gighters who are on zero sugar. Guest guest
thanks - i'm learning this by trial & error.... i believe this is stevia white powder wendy Stevia Start out mild with the stevia....use a little and add more. If you get it too strong you won't like it at all...(personal experience). Just add a tiny bit and keep adding until you reach the desired sweetness. It takes getting used to. I don't like the ground stevia leaves at all though... <well.... this week i tried stevia for the first time. But then I found out that not all Stevia is created equal. The brand I use now tastes great. Its from Amazon Herb Co. I think I read somewhere that the yucky Stevia is brown and the tastey Stevia is clear. Mine is clear. Neil
Guest guest
My Stevia is white powder, and tastes like saccharin. Yuck, but it's better than nothing. I have been sent some sachets from America, so I shall try them and see if they are any different. Re: Stevia > If you get it > > > too strong you won't like it at all...(personal experience). Guest guest
I have used stevia in a biscuit recipe I have (with appropriate flour) and it baked up fine. I haven't really tried it in anything else but hot tea. As for sugar free candy. I eat the russell stover sugar free once in awhile. Maybe it is a no no...I am not sure. But it doesn't seem to bother me and so that is my treat.
Guest guest
I buy the stevia called " Stevia Plus " - it has F.O.S. (a good flora called fructooligosaccharides) and Stevia Extract - its called " Sweetleaf Company " and i get it in little packets - 100 packets or so in a box - depending which size - I usually use 1/2 a packet in tea. I love it this way - i did not like it in other ways.... wendy Re: Stevia I have another Stevia question. Do any of you buy it online? If so, is it good quality and where do you purchase it from. I think that some stevia manufacturers could (and possibly do) mix it with another, cheaper substance and it makes it not so potent - sweet.
