Guest guest
Here is Def of end stage I found End stage IPF subjects, defined by the presence of at least two of the following:• TLC <45% of predicted • Single-breath carbon monoxide diffusing capacity of the lung (DLCO), corrected for hemoglobin, <30% of predicted • Resting P(A-a) gradient >30 mm Hg • O2 desaturation <80% with exercise (walking on level ground at own pace for 6 minutes)I got three I win!!!!! LOL my TLC is still above 45% P PM (Polymositis) 12/98, UIP 8/00, o2 24/7 8/04, PH 3/06, ILL yo 59 P PM (Polymositis) 12/98, UIP 8/00, o2 24/7 8/04, PH 3/06, ILL yo 59 Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
, I know I have 1, I just don't know what the rest mean, so I've decided not to have them! So There. LOL The one thing I have learned over the years, is your mental state has more to do with the quality if your life, then anything a Dr can tell you. We have all heard of people being given a short time to live and years later they are still talking about it. We can't worry about it because that can not change a thing! Keep smiling, tell dirty jokes. I find it most pleasant!!!!! Guest guest
Oh My chest physician doesn't use the terms 'end stage', at least not to my face, but judging by those definitions, I'm way over! The only one I can't comment on is the resting P(A-a) gradient as I haven't come across that before. See, I've never really felt 'ill', except when I have an actual chest infection, I just can't catch my breath. I know that medically I'm on my knees, or I wouldn't have been given the O2 and wouldn't be waiting to find out if I can have some new lungs. I know I get tired easily, but I don't feel ill. Does that make sense? If I'm sitting down and not exerting myself then I'm fine. Guest guest
I'm on O2 all the time, and my requirements have gone up slightly since christmas. Guest guest
Zena, , My pulmonary doctor told me the other day that even though I was in "end stage" that I was stable. I was told almost 2 years ago that I was in end stage and yes, I meet all the criteria. My question is how can they say that I am stable when I have developed stage 4 Pulmonary Hypertension and they have now defined Honeycombing in all areas of my lungs. Do the docs think we can not read????.....or that we lack the ability to understand plain english? I want the truth. I hate it when I am patronized or assumed to be too stupid to grasp information and deal with it rationally. Aaaargh! Mechanics can tell you what is wrong with your vehicle a lot better than docs can give us clear and concise information about what is wrong with our bodies.
