CYNTHIA - PLEASE FORGIVE MY CAPS - I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO ADDRESS A COUPLE OF THINGS ON YOUR POST - I APPLIED ALMOST 4 YEARS AGO FOR SSD AND AM STILL WAITING! I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MY SSD ATTORNEY THAT IT DEPENDS ON WHAT STATE AND EVEN WHAT DISTRICT YOU LIVE IN AS TO HOW LONG A CLAIM WILL TAKE TO BE APPROVED. IT IS A FRUSTRATING TIME... > Now, each State should have a Insurance Ombudsman, or at least some > sort of Overview of Insurance to help consumers with problems with > their insurance company. I know the one in California and am fairly > good and tracking down who to go to in just about any other State. WHAT IS AN " INSURANCE OMBUDSMAN " ? I LIVE IN FLORIDA - ARE YOU AWARE OF ANYONE OTHER THAN MY AREA CONGRESSMAN THAT I COULD CONTACT? I'VE BEEN TOLD MY CASE IS BEFORE THE APPEALS COUNCIL IN FALLS CHURCH, VA. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU MIGHT GIVE - PLEASE FORGIVE THE CAPS... Doreen
Guest guest
Sue, If you have a local women's advocacy group (maybe a dv organization), you can try contacting them. Most organizations of that nature and some religious organizations (like Catholic Charties)apply for annual federal grants which are designed to help cover emergency housing costs/expenses. The dv organization that I used to work for received funding every year, which we in turn used to help all kinds of peoople in our community with rent, electric, cooking gas, water, etc. You can also check with your local office of Health & Human Services. They somtimes have programs as well for emergency assistance. If they don't have a program in place, they should be able to point you in the direction of a group who does. Good Luck. You're in my prayers. Betsy in the VI > > > > > > > > Last Nov I found out that my drs office hadn't sent medical records in like requested so my disability payments were put on hold. Guest guest
Get messages to everyone you can, see if your lawyer will help, and let them know that it was due to incompetence that this has happened to you and you will be suing in order to get it all straightened out. This is wrong on so many levels and there has to be some relief through legal channels. Prayers coming your way! Guest guest
I thought I had replied to this post earlier this week, but I don't see it. A couple suggestions.just hear me out. ..First, do not assume that the MD's office didn't send them or didn't send the right thing. MANY times disability is NOT trying to work in your favor, so the best thing to do is make an appearance at the MD's office and speak to whomever does that sort of thing. Be very polite and concerned, try to not be accusatory and maybe start with " you're probably not going to believe this, but disability says they didn't get all my medical records like I requested in writing on (you know the dates)..I told them I couldn't believe that you didn't send them anything, maybe they have lost it? Would you mind looking for me and see when you sent the records so we can figure out where the problem might be? " .A disability surveyor or whatever they call them, ignores pieces presented to him, that's just how it works. Many people I have known in tragic accidents who lost mental status or limbs or ability to walk were denied several times. My suggestions are these because, being a RN and being involved in getting disability with my brother in law (who is DD and has epilepsy), I know the disability folks don't want to give you disability and they will try anything. At one point with him, with the mentality of a 7 year old, one of disability's people trying to deny us said at his hearing " your honor, I believe he can change oil, deliver newspapers and bag groceries. " I asked for permission to speak, stood and said to this man very politely " Sir, would you allow this man to change the oil in your car? " ..The judge smiled and then stated " point taken " ..And, he was approved. ;-) So, if you like your MD and plan on staying, threatening to sue wont help you, and frankly, there is probably nothing a lawsuit against them will do. It costs money to sue folks, especially MD's because they can easily deny even knowing anything about it, and will then drop you as a patient. Lawyers probably can't do anything to help you. But a good disability attorney can help you by asking for a copy of the records to come to him/her and the other copy to disability. I hope this will resolve, and if it's like most disability, there is back pay, so eventually there will be repayment of back earnings. If you have a church, contact them, ask for help. Talk to the bank, tell them the situation. There are lots of people going through stuff right now, be one of the ones who contacts them to work something out or explain the situation. Many people are just walking away and not working with them at all. I am sure that you will find the root of the problem and be able to help yourself, which feels wonderful!
