Questions regarding Disability

Hi Group,

I'd like to hear your stories about filing for disability. I'm 45, and from

Mass. I've heard so many strange things and I have no idea what to believe

anymore. I heard the closer you are to 50 the better your chances. I've

heard Mass has been approving more cases lately on the first go round. I don't

know anyone who's applied to help validate that. Anyway....So far, I know that

paperwork has already been sent out to all my Drs. and Hospitals, etc. Some

of my Drs. have already returned it! My therapist is in total support of

this as is my primary care and my Physiatrist. My PCPs Nurse called me today

and told me the 4 questions they were being asked and that she was sending in

one year of records/notes/test results. She had laughed and said you have

nothing really to worry about because all of his (the Dr.) notes state how

miserable you are feeling re: RA , etc. and your stomache, etc....and then she

said, that Disability usually holds things up and comes back requesting another

year, so she's going to send 2007 as well. She knows I wasn't feeling any

better then either. I was also sent paperwork to complete. I finished that

yesterday and sent it back. My questions are...have any of you been approved

on the first try? If yes, how long did it take? I'm trying to focus on the

positive and not the negative. I'm kind of at a downspot right now so

hopefully I'll get some good news out of this. I know they typically deny

people

the first time, but it can't be everyone. How long do appeals take? If you get

denied the first time, do you then get a lawyer? I had someone handwrite my

forms for me as my hands were all swollen and painful yesterday, she is my

contact person as well. We both signed the forms. I will appreciate any

information you provide. Thanks in advance for your time.
