Hi there,

I was recently diagnosed with RA and don't know what to expect. It seems that

I've been living with these symptoms for years and it never had a name. I also

have a genetic skin disorder and all the doctors said that all this pain I was

having was related to the skin disorder. Come to find out, it's not. It's a

whole other thing entirely.

I haven't told a whole lot of people, esp. my husband's side of the family.

They tend to think that I'm making all of this up and really don't understand

what I'm going through or don't WANT to know what I'm going through OR they tell

me it's all in my head. Really now, would I be making this crap up?? arugh..

Anyways, I just know that doing the simple things (like going up and down

stairs, carrying a laundry basket, etc.) are harder to do ( and they have been

for quite some time now).

My Rheumy has me on 5mg of Prednisone 2X daily, Aleve, and Plaquenil (200mg 2X

daily). I've haven't taken the Plaquenil yet as I'm afraid to. Is it safe??

Are there horrible side effect?? Will it actually make any difference in how I'm

feeling? (and I'm fully aware that it could take months to find out if it's

effective or not.)

Are there any good websites that I can look at? I really need to get my head

wrapped around this and go forward with things.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi

I'm brand new to this site as of today (this is actually my 1st post) I was on

the web all night last night on a site called " rawarrior " that had lots of

information and links on it if you want to check that one out.

Hi ,

I have the same issues with friends and family as well. It is hard when people

say, " you don't look sick " because you have to be flat on your back in a

hospital to feel like crap. Um we have lives ya know! It always makes me mad.

The Arthritis Foundation has some great information. I have some book resources

as I find that the books will give you more information:

1. The First Year: Rheumatoid Arthritis: An Essential Guide for the Newly

Diagnosed, this was essential for me to understand what I was going through. It

also explained the medications I was given and helpful tips to help you find

ways to get through your day.

2. The Arthritis Foundation's Guide to Good Living with Rheumatoid Arthritis,

3rd Edition, this was also a great book on what to do about keeping my joins

moving and also adds information about medication.

3.What to Do When the Doctor Says It's Rheumatoid Arthritis: Stop your Pain,

Become More Active, and Learn How to Talk to Your Doctors, this book adds

information on alternative thearpies and exercise.

RAwarrior is a good site, so are the following

Creakyjoints.org is a good one the articles are the best part

I do watch the online " tv " show, if you want to call it that on RA called

NewWayRA it is produced by a drug company, but does have some helpful tips.

I am on plaquenil, 200mgs twice a day. I have had no symptoms, but every person

is different. I have had to stop taking it at one point a year ago and let me

tell you, I felt it! I did not realize how much it was really working at taking

my pain away until I could not take it anymore. My doc said that happens, people

think it is not doing anything because they have no side effects like they have

on MTX. So it must not be working. I speak form experience it is one powerful

drug, I would not be without!

Hope this helps a little,

BJ
