Guest guest
Hi Edie Yes, it is a real problem. I just wondered if it was caused by the HepC. I think so, but about 5 years ago before I got on anti-depressants I could sleep around the clock....but that was from depression. Now I am just like you....I call myself the " walking zombie " . I can, however, sleep in the afternoon if I have to cuz I'm on disability. I can really feel for you having little or no sleep and having to go to work. I honestly don't know how you do it....I can't function at all without proper sleep. Starting as a kid....my doc told my Mom I'd need at least 8 hours a night, and probably more. That never changed. Sometimes I feel like going off the anti-depressants just to sleep again....but I know that isn't the answer either. We need a solution to this. Like I said before, my doc has had me on several different sleeping pills....maybe works the first night...then nothing....might as well take a placebo...in fact maybe that would work LOL. Guest guest
Recently I was reading an article that some sleep issues could be related to an Endocrine problem ie: Thyroid, Adrenal glands, Diabetes. Its worth checking these out. The fact your child is waking up thristy, is it from drainage? or some antihistaime med? or something else? What about keeping a glass of water by his bed at night, and show him the first few times at night so he knows where to get it. Also the diet as well, sugars, milk, casien, etc.. Melatonin has been helpful for a lot of kids another option.
Guest guest
Thyroid problems definitely affect sleep. I have hypothyroidism. My medication was upped last year because my blood tests came back normal, but I was still having symptoms. One of my major symptoms is insomnia. After my medication was upped, I started sleeping better. > Recently I was reading an article that some sleep issues could > be related to an Endocrine problem ie: Thyroid, Adrenal glands, Diabetes. > Its worth checking these out. > The fact your child is waking up thristy, is it from drainage? or some > antihistaime med? or something else? > What about keeping a glass of water by his bed at night, and show him > the first few times at night so he knows where to get it. > Also the diet as well, sugars, milk, casien, etc.. > Melatonin has been helpful for a lot of kids another option. > > >
Guest guest
Not only did prednisone hype me up and cause me not to sleep it precipitated a psychotic episode in my case. I was literally out of my mind for a weekend paranoid, psychotic and probably should have been hospitalized. Many DRs are not aware of these severe reactions because they haven't ever seen one. I saw a psychiatrist who told me horror stories of people committing violent acts, giving away their homes, and even suicides immediately after taking prednisone. More people are sensitive to it than most of the medical establishment seem to admit. I now have a not in my medical files that I can't take it. Guest guest
Has anyone found a permanent solution to these kids sleep problems? Something works for a while and then quits working. Karac didn't have any sleep problems at my house until age 10. I wonder what causes it? I think maybe my Melatonin is too old. It says use by 1/05. I think I'll reorder some. His mother wants to just quit giving him anything. LOL, Pat K
Guest guest
If the melatonin has quit working for him, quit giving it for awhile. That is what an article said that I read about melatonin a long time ago. I use a generic Unisom for Evan at times but also rotate it so that he does not get to where it will not work. There are times when nothing works for Evan. I assume that is because he has gotten enough sleep. Sometimes giving zinc or magnesiun helps if the child is low on either. Evan's new thing the past couple of days in going nude again. At least at home and in the house. One good reason I like the 6 foot fence in the back yard. Guest guest
That's funny. I remember when Karac use to like to run around nude, but it has been a long time ago. I had a friend with an autistic son who would go to his living room windows and moon the people who drove down their busy street. Guest guest
Did he have this sleep problem before all of these vitamins/supplements? My dd never sleeps. She said her brain is on fire!!! It was painful to watch her. Things are a bit better since treating the yeast problem. At least she is calmer and not trying to run into the street, but she still doesn't EVER get tired. Not even a yawn. Houston enzymes and magnesium citrate made her more wild and the insomnia was even worse. my 2 cents. Hope it helps. Guest guest
Did you try melatonin? It actually has a relatively bland taste & I used to crush the tablets & put them into my girl's bottles...ultimately, part of figuring out how much she " needed " was seeing how many milk bottles she was asking for, at which point during her migraines...more than once, watched her go thru a couple bottles - looking for the melatonin one, I am sure - before I " got it " and put some in a bottle for her As she got older, crushing them into her glass of milk worked(s) just as well. wishing you the best answers, elizabeth > > My 8.10 PDD-NOS high functioning guy has a hard time falling to sleep at night. Guest guest
Hi - we've used a liquid melatonin for my son (age 5) and it doesn't taste bad at all, and worked like a charm until he reached a point where he could fall asleep well on his own. Also, we used a liquid herbal tincture for parasite cleanse and applied it to his skin (soles of feet) and had good results. Now he'll drink the herbs in pear juice, because after the first month he felt so much better, he wanted to take them. > > My 8.10 PDD-NOS high functioning guy has a hard time falling to sleep at night. Guest guest
Hi Gwen - Seems like Kaleigh and Caleb are in the same boat. I suggested to Kaleigh's doc this morning that we do an alternating type thing too so that she won't have time to grow tolerant. I'm not a big fan of trazodone, mainly because of the side-effects, and as large as a dose that Kaleigh takes, it's not even working for her. So, I'll let you know what we come up with and maybe it'll work for Caleb (love the name Caleb. We picked that name in case Kaleigh was a boy). > > > I haven't been online in a really long time. I just read that Kaleigh isn't sleeping well. Been there done that and still doing that. Caleb's doctor recommended benadryl at night. I have been alternating melatonin, clinodine, and benadryl. It seems as though Caleb gets immune to all of them. Hope things get better for y'all. > > > > Gwen >
