Guest guest
Hi All, No response to my previous post about GI problems -- no problem, guess nobody could relate. Have decided to go off the prednisone. I am on 4mgs daily and it is messing up my digestion. Can't get my rheumy on the phone and don't see him until the 29th. (I will be switching to a new rhuemy asap -- anyone know a good one in the DF Bay area)? Anyway how should I wean myself off the prednisone? Go down one mg. each week or what? Appreciate any help along these lines. Best to everyone. Ira

Guest guest
i have been on prednsione for 15 years, 15 mg down to 10 mg, itkeeps me going i have no side effect, except one you gain weight,i rather the weight then the pain  ann nj > Hi All, > > I was on 3mgs.prednisone daily along with 15mgs. MTX weekly, and was doing OK. Went off the prednisone because of fear of side-effects of long-term low dose prednisone, and increased the MTX to 20mgs. but that didn't help, just caused more digestive problems. I tried the MTX alone at 15mgs. for a few months but now my symptoms are seriously worsening. On advice of my rheumy I restarted the prednisone at 5mgs. four days ago (to eventually work back down to 3mgs.) > > How long will it take for the prednisone to start having an effect? If it doesn't should I start the prednisone at a higher dose and work down? (When I first started it, a year ago I began at 15mgs., then worked down to 5mgs. and finally 3mgs.) > > Best to Everyone, > Ira Brightman > >

My Rheumatologist said I will probably always be on it. I haven't really gained weight, but I've changed shape. All my fat is around my middle. And my top is bigger than the bottom. You've seen those women -- and now I am one. When I went to him the first time, I could barely make it into his office. He gave me the Rx for Prednisone -- 25 or 30 mg that first day. Two hours after taking it, I was able to teach my line dance class. It was a miracle. One person in that class saw me both days -- the one before Pred and the one after. Amazing. I'm also on Remicade, which was also increased from 200 to 500, daily Imuran for RA. I'm now on a statin for cholesterol because the Prednisone has raised that as well. Plus problems with my thyroid. Things could be way worse. dd
Guest guest
Hi Betty.    I have been on daily Pred. for 7 years now. My usual dose is 5mg a day, but for the last month I have been on 10 mg, a day. Thanks to Pred. I have my life back. My blood work is always great, both with the Rheumy and my PCP. Hope this information helps you with your question.  Hugs,  Barbara From: dgd301@... <dgd301@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Prednisone Question Date: Wednesday, August 18, 2010, 1:13 AM  In a message dated 8/17/2010 8:12:00 P.M.
