Guest guest
I'm back from a week-plus vacation. I took the time off for a " staycation " to do day motorcycle trips in and around home... so OF COURSE we got a week of record-setting, non-stop rain. Bummer. Oh well, I enjoyed being off at any rate. I was again struck, as I have been on previous vacations, by how easy and intuitive it is to " do " IE when I'm on vacation. Especially when I'm on a loose vacation without any kind of regimented schedule to adhere to. When the clock is not dictating or a schedule is not dictating, I always find that I really do ONLY pay attention to hunger, not eating because it's time to or because I should. NICE! But what this tells me, and should tell all of us, is that we absolutely DO have it in us to eat intuitively, and doing so absolutely IS the natural way our bodies want to handle food. We've just spent so long imposing other reasons for eating, that we think eating by the clock is natural. It isn't! I also had a nice moment on vacation when I was doing some clothes shopping and tried on a pair of black jeans in my size and was struck by how GOOD they looked on me! Sure, they were still a plus- size, but dang I looked good in 'em! I was standing there at the mirror thinking, " Ya' know, why can't you just celebrate this, looking good in a pair of black jeans, no matter what size it is?! " So I did! I neither gained nor lost a single pound on vacation, which is fine. I DID exercise my everlovin' butt off (okay, not literally ), working out every single morning, but I also enjoyed da' heck out of some medium rare ribeye, some marvelous berry pie with whipped cream, and a " second " breakfast every morning after working out ('cause I was HUNGRY after working out!). I ate all kinds of things that I'd once figured were " forbidden " with no real thought about their " status " in the acceptable-foods-lists, just about whether or not I was hungry and it was what I wanted at the time. Vacation is a marvelous way to live and eat - now I just gotta' figure out how to live like I'm on vacation, when it comes to food, even when I'm not on vacation. Guest guest
Gymisadrug, That is wonderful that you had such a good week even in the rain. I was supposed to be in Lake today for Americade but was waylaid by allergies and some 'bug' with it. I went out to breakfast this am and was 'starving' by the time I got there. Sitting and chatting with biker friend, I could not decide what I wanted. I had passed a farm stand with rhubarb and thought of pie, so that is what I had for breakfast. Warm strawberry rhubard pie with real whipped cream, coffee and ice water. I was full AND HAPPY. What a difference than sitting 'counting points'. Later this week I start traveling the east coast(by car) for the next week and a half. I SO know that when I am on vacation, IE is easier. You come and go as you please and when hunger hits, feed it. My problem is the waiting too long and then over doing it. That is my homework for this trip, to know WHEN to eat before it gets too far. Cammie And congrats on the black jeans...always a win-win when you feel good!!! > > I'm back from a week-plus vacation.
