Guest guest Posted December 20, 2009 Report Share Posted December 20, 2009 PML More Common With Lupus Than With Other Rheumatic Conditions NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Dec 15 - Although progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) rarely accompanies rheumatic diseases, when it does, it seems to occur most often with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), researchers report in the December issue of Arthritis and Rheumatism. " PML has been reported in patients with chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases; such cases have traditionally been ascribed to the immunosuppressive medications administered to these patients, " co-author Dr. Eamonn S. Molloy told Reuters Health. " However, " he added, " the results of the current study suggest that SLE itself may confer a specific predisposition to PML, relative to other rheumatic diseases.
