In a report in today's Archives of General Psychiatry, researchers found that 62% of adults with chronic fatigue had suffered a childhood trauma — such as neglect, or physical, emotional or sexual abuse — in comparison with 24% of adults who hadn't experienced trauma. Chronic fatigue is unexplained exhaustion, aches and pains that last more than six months, even after getting adequate sleep, says Janet Squires, director of the Child Advocacy Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, who was not involved in the study.
