Guest guest
Hi Beth, I'm so Happy for you with the great news you have received! I agree Live Life to the Fullest and Enjoy every minute of it! Irene ---- Original Message ---- To: Breathe-Support Sent: Fri, 28 Mar 2008 8:31 pm Subject: My good news Hi everybody, Just thought I'd share the good news I got today. I received the dictated note from Dr. on in which he said the echocardiogram I had two weeks ago is "nearly normal" with NO PULMONARY HYPERTENSION (YIPPEE!!!). The only issue is a "grade 2 relaxation abnormality suggesting left ventricular diastolic dysfunction". I'm going to have to research that some more, I'm a few too many years out of nursing school to know the ramifications of that but the doctor is not terribly concerned so I'm not sweating it for the moment. Dr. on feels I have an "as yet undifferentiated connective tissue disease" but given the stability of my overall condition he's not prescribing any treatment for now. Basically until it flares up and we can figure out what it is, there's not much to do. My bloodwork shows hints that something is going on, elevated c-reactive protein etc but nothing definitive sooo we wait. But while we wait, I LIVE MY LIFE!! Happy Friday night everybody! Guest guest
Peggy, Thank you my dear! It's a huge relief to get the results in writing from the doctor. I knew that things were alright based on a phone conversation with Terry, the patient care coordinator I work with at Duke. She had called to say everything was ok and that I'd receive the details in his report in the mail. I love that Duke does this, send a copy of the doctors note for every visit. I can also get all my lab and radiology results on their website. I can log into my account and all my results are there for me. I've not ever had that service at any other hospital or doctor I've dealt with. I think it's great! Anywho dear, hope you have a great weekend! It was 80 today and tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 50's! Brrrrrr I'm spoiled! Beth in NC age 48 Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 "For as long as I shall live, I will testify to Love." Guest guest
mary-beth i'm good. up very late though. 2.15am here. just going to bed. my body clock is like babs and denise. i do get it back to a 9am wake instead of 11am quite regularly and then i mess it all up again by something on the tv after 12 or reading and stuff on the net. i swear that after midnight the time goes by faster. tonight i found a site that had videos of cooking vegan style so that distracted me for about an hour. i'm not vegan but pick up lots of low fat tips from them. noticed you said you were having some success with weight loss. are you using a specific plan or a mixture. fancy sharing. may uip 0606 scotland > > > > Hi everybody, > > Just thought I'd share the good news I got today. Guest guest
, You are so right and it is hilarious when I think about it that way. A few years ago had I been told I had an as yet "undifferentiated connective tissue disease" but they didn't know what it was, I would have been frantic. Now, it's kind of a shrug and my attitude is we'll figure it out when it flares up. How my perspective has changed....all I care about is STAYING STABLE!! Thanks for the chuckle! Guest guest
Bruce, Thanks! Obviously I'm very happy to have gotten some good news. No PH was especially welcome. Honestly I'm very impressed with the quality of care at Duke and just the overall attitude towards patients. It seems that I'm regarded as a customer and I'm treated respectfully and with excellent 'customer service'. So far I can only say good things. It's funny cause my sister (who's actually a physician at Duke) warned me that it was a huge institution and that I might find things fairly impersonal and cold. While it certainly is large, I've actually felt welcomed and treated with respect, warmth and compassion Again it's good to see you back on the board! Beth in NC age 48 Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 "For as long as I shall live, I will testify to Love." Re: My good news BethThrilled over your good news and over the quality of medical care youare receiving. Makes me think about a visit to Duke on my North Carolinavisit rather than heading to Chicago. No, I think all the 13 Centers ofExcellence really continue to show their expertise and their respectfulcaring treatment of PF'ers.> Hi everybody,> Just thought I'd share the good news I got today. I received thedictated note from Dr. on in which he said the echocardiogram Ihad two weeks ago is "nearly normal" with NO PULMONARY HYPERTENSION(YIPPEE!!!). The only issue is a "grade 2 relaxation abnormalitysuggesting left ventricular diastolic dysfunction" . I'm going to haveto research that some more, I'm a few too many years out of nursingschool to know the ramifications of that but the doctor is not terriblyconcerned so I'm not sweating it for the moment.> Dr. on feels I have an "as yet undifferentiated connectivetissue disease" but given the stability of my overall condition he's notprescribing any treatment for now. Basically until it flares up and wecan figure out what it is, there's not much to do. My bloodwork showshints that something is going on, elevated c-reactive protein etc butnothing definitive sooo we wait. But while we wait, I LIVE MY LIFE!!>> Happy Friday night everybody!>> Beth in NC age 48 Fibrotic NSIP 06/06>> "For as long as I shall live, I will testify to Love.">>>------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -\----> No virus found in this incoming message.> Checked by AVG.> Version: 7.5.519 / Virus Database: 269.22.1/1347 - Release Date:3/27/2008 7:15 PM>

Guest guest
Beth and Duke First, I think while Duke is huge, the ILD group isn't and they are so dedicated to our disease. I have found such a distinctive difference in how we're treated by doctors and nurses who specialize in PF versus those in general Pulmonology practice. Second, I went to Duke 38 years or so ago to the Allergy Center (don't know what they call it today). At any rate, I got the same personal attention and I got treatment, but more importantly, advice that has meant so much to me over the years. Hay Fever and Allergies were hitting me constantly and hard and severely limiting me, giving me periods of 1-2 weeks with sore throats and 103-104 degree fevers many times per year. Allergists were prescribing shots three times a week back then, doing tests after tests, and leading most patients to few results and so much work for nothing. Well, Dr. Seiker did the tests and then told me how inaccurate they were in general, he gave me maximum dosages of cortisone to try to clear me up (he couldn't get me clear), then he gave me some rather simple advice, TEACHING ME HOW TO BEST LIVE WITH MY CONDITION (oh, does that sound familiar to all of us learning to make the most of our PF). Since that time, I've avoided those things I have determined I'm most allergic to like the plague. But, when exposed or anytime I feel an attack about to hit, I immediately take two Benedryl. I don't wait for a doctor, per his instructions. I don't even wait to head to ER and get a shot of Benedryl eventually. I don't delay a minute. I just double up immediately. I'm never without Benedryl. If needed, I'll take one or two more about six hours later. So, the results. I am able to avoid most attacks and head off at least 95-98% of the others at the pass. So, I've lived 38 years since with my life changed through avoiding certain things and with very few allergy attacks of significance. Never once have I been clear of allergies nor of congestion. But, the impact on my life has been quite controlled. Now, I don't equate allergies or hay fever with PF, but I guess I do say that the environment I found at Duke 38 years ago and which made so much difference in my life is very consistent with the one you're finding today. > > Hi everybody, > > Just thought I'd share the good news I got today.
