Hi Hope, I haven't heard this before, and it's interesting (especially since I'm a medical technologist, so I understand the dynamics of the CBC, absolute counts vs. percent, etc.). Back in the spring, my lymphs were at 24% - I had just started the Best Bet Diet and had not gotten rid of symptoms yet. I was supposed to have routine bloodwork this month, but my PCP closed her practice and I haven't had time to go find another. I'm curious, if there is a definite correlation here, do you think that points towards MS as autoimmune or infectious? At this point, I think I pretty much reject the commonly accepted explanation of MS as autoimmune. Dr. O. Young makes a good case for it not being autoimmune...i.e. the WBCs are doing clean-up work, not attacking. Crystal
Guest guest
Hello Crystal and everyone, I don't buy the autoimmune theory except for it will indicate to me a chronic immune system imbalance. I'm not sure if I would say the primary cause would be infection though either because I believe infections are opportunistic and there first must be a physiological weakness or immune system imbalance leading to the person being susceptible. When the granulocytes (neutrophiles) get to a high percentage the activity of these circulating as well as tissue granulocyte cells such as in the digestive system overproduce because of the chronic immune system stimulation by the autonomic nervous system when a person is sympathetic dominant. Simply put, chronic stress (or at least physiological stress) leads to this imbalance which leads to tissue inflammation from over activity of the out of balance percentages especially from the high neutrophiles. The immune system is simply a result of the autonomic nervous system imbalance. Many factors help to create physiological stress. Stop these things over time, bring the body back toward a parasympathetic balance and you will see the immune system change watching the CBC. As this changes eventually the MS will also change with time. This is not a quick fix but as everyone knows, MS is a very chronic condition. It could take months or even years depending upon the strength of each person and their level of vitality. I would like to hear more of your blood history and your new test when you get it, but at 24% lymphocyte this would give about a >70% neutrophile percentage. Look back at your values to see a trend over months or years if you have past tests. When you were healthy you would have had more normal values closer to the 60/35% neutrophile/lymphocyte. I have seen all stage 4 cancer patients with solid tumor cancers show a decline over months prior to dying. Please note, many of these patients still had levels that were within the lab normal ranges with total WBC and even the differential. What I tell people is that the normal range on your blood work means that you fall into the average category that all of the other sick people are in. Being in the normal range does not mean everything is OK, you can be very sick and still in the labs normal range, it doesn't mean a whole lot. As I'm sure you know, acute infection of virus will raise your lymphocyte count and percentage temporarily. An acute bacterial infection will raise your neutrophile count and percentage and total WBCs temporarily. Acute stress will lower your total WBC count temporarily. These are normal and healthy immune system response changes, but what is important to watch are the long term chronic pattern that can be seen over time. Even if your total WBCs are normal but you have a chronic history of imbalanced neutrophile to lymphocyte percentage you will have a weak immune system and be at risk for disease or already have a developing process such as MS. I suggest a CBC with differential be done monthly if someone really wants to chart their progress. I would love to hear from anyone that has a copy or history of their CBC with the white blood cell differential to show everyone this pattern. I think you will be amazed. There are many things that can help bring balance to the body including much of what is talked about on this list. Sincerely, Hope > Hi Hope, > > I haven't heard this before, and it's interesting (especially since > I'm a medical technologist, so I understand the dynamics of the CBC, > absolute counts vs. percent, etc.). Guest guest
Hi Hope, So, if a person's count was below 30%, how would one go about raising it?
