Guest guest
Hi Fiona and Trish Thanks for your replies. I did a bit of research and lack of vitamin A may be what's causing it. So, I've been out and bought some cod liver oil supplements, and lambs liver (yuk). It seems that if you are hypo you don't get the benefit from carotene in vegetables, which can't convert to Vitamin A. I've probably been deficient for years. Guest guest
Hi Jan, get some hypromellose eye drops meanwhile. You are right dose can affect eyes. > thyroid treatment > From: janmiles@...> Date: Wed, 16 Jun 2010 14:44:52 +0000> Subject: Dry eyes> > Has anyone experienced dry eyes? My eyes have become extremely dry over the last few weeks and I'm anxious to get it sorted. They became particularly bad 4 weeks after my GP reduced my NDT to 2.5 grains from 3.25. I've increased the NDT to 2.75 grains but although I feel fine, my eyes don't.> > Many thanks in advance> > Jan M> > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Guest guest
Hi Fliss Hypos don't convert the carotene into Vitamin A easily and we often end up vitamin A deficient as a result. I'm not sure why this is, but I guess its just another thing we have to put up with. Someone who has an over-active thyroid converts carotene really fast. Beta-carotene is from fruit and veg. The name carotene comes from 'carrots'. The best Vit A sources for us is retinol from animals, like cod liver oil or liver, which doesn't need any converting into a usable form. Guest guest
i've just remembered something else about dry eyes ...apparently lack of vit b2 can cause the " gritty " effect ...this came up some months ago with sarah from france and i believe she added b2 back to her daily routine. trish > > Hi Fliss > > Hypos don't convert the carotene into Vitamin A easily and we often end up vitamin A deficient as a result. Guest guest
I also have dry eyes, probably because of a couple of corneal dystrophies that I have. At bedtime, I use Genteal gel, and it really helps. When I wake up during the night to go to the bathroom, I put in some more. It's a terrific product. There are also dry eye ointments, but I never did have much luck getting ointment into my eyes. The gel is much easier. Guest guest
Me, too... from various drugs for RA. etc., etc.,, diuretics and old age. What helped me is a drop of plain Castor Oil in each eye upon arising and before bedtime. it has some Omega 3 as does Olive oil, and lasts all day and night. No pain!! -- Lee IN GOD WE TRUST
Guest guest
Are you sure it's sterile enough to put into your eyes? Guest guest
I have tried the temporary plugs in my eyes and they worked for me too. I just need to get the permanent ones put in. I also use Systane Ultra which works very well. ________________________________ From: marysue <marysue@...> Sent: Fri, March 11, 2011 8:44:18 PM Subject: Re: [ ] dry eyes  Are you sure it's sterile enough to put into your eyes?
