Guest guest
Hi PJ, I've had RA for 11 years now, VERY well controlled with mtx however I do have a heel spur in the left foot that is a killer. I also get numbness/cold sensation that runs down the outer side of my legs when I stand for any length of time. I told this to the rheumy and he had me see a neurologist. I saw him, he was a good doc but yes, it did hurt. I believe it was an EMG that he performed. It wasn't completely painful but there were times.....ugh. It had to be done and the good or bad part, depends on how you look at it, is that they found nothing. So I still have numbness with no explanation. Good luck. in PA On Sat, Mar 19, 2011 at 12:18 PM, Patti Yuswak <WhtBC10@...> wrote: > > > I've seen several posts mentioning painful feet and also neuropathy. Guest guest
Hi PJ.  You sound just like I did with your feet pain etc. My feet were hit the hardest with RA.  My Rheumy sent me to a foot surgeon because I had a huge RA nodule under my arch of my right foot. I also had horrible pain etc. First he removed the nodule then he did a nerve test on both feet. I had all your syptoms. Pain, felt like I was walking on rocks, cold feet, numbness, tingling, and more pain then I could handle.  He set me up for the nerve test of both feet and ankles. When it was over, it just hurts a bit, just for a second, he told me I had Neuropathy in booth feet, plus I could feel it was spreading to about the calf of both legs. He did a blood test to see if I was low in B12 and I was. So he sent me to a health food store to get the B12 that disolves under your tongue and then I went to my Rheumy and she put me on Lyrica. Within 3 weeks all my pain from the Neuropathy went away, as did all the other things. It has been a month now, and it has all worked wonderful for me. I really and truly never thought I would see the day that my feet were normal and pain free. I never knew that low B 12 can cause foot pain etc. For me it has been a real miracle. Everyone here knows the hell I went through with these feet of mine.  I hope this helps you. Perhaps you could see a foot dr. to see if that is what is wrong with your feet. I wish you success getting rid of your pain. I wish you many pain free days ahead. I still can't believe that my feet good.  Hugs,  Barbara From: Patti Yuswak <WhtBC10@...> Subject: [ ] Neuropathy/Foot Pain Date: Saturday, March 19, 2011, 12:18 PM  I've seen several posts mentioning painful feet and also neuropathy. Guest guest
Speaking of foot pain- does anybody else have boney growths in-between the toes? Also, the base of the toe is flattening ( bone ) and to walk sometimes hurts so bad that I can't believe it. I dunno if this is a nodule? I thought nodules were kinda fleshier growths? The center of the the two outside toes is pointing outward now. This is a really weird disease we have isn't it? Some days, it doesn't bother me at all. Weird- but I take all of those days I can find! Gentle hugs-- in SC
Guest guest
Thank you . I guess it does need to be done. I wish you'd been able to find out why, it's hard not knowing. Guest guest
Thank you Barbara. My regular Dr tested my B12 and I was really low so I'm on shots now for it. That has definitely helped (mostly my hands) but the feet too, to an extent. Some of the numbness is gone, but the walking on rocks, burning, cold, tingling, pain, is all still there (plus I have plantar fasciitis and am going to physical therapy for that, so that doesn't help the matter). I will definitely make an appt with the neurologist, maybe he/she can give me more help. I had seen a foot Dr prior to all this, ingrown toenails and a bunyon, and told her about my foot issues and she said it wasn't the feet but she thought it was systemic and I should see my endocrinologist (I have Graves too), who told me that wasn't the issue and I should see my foot Dr. Hmm. :-) So a visit to the neurologist is next in line for me. I'm so happy to hear that your feet are doing so well!! Gives me hope that I can run my dogs in agility again - something I truly miss. Thank you! Guest guest
Hi again PJ.  Ouch, I had that awful Plantar Fasciitis for far too long and suffer I did. I had to have 3 heel injections before I got relief from it, and it finally left me. I thanked my lucky stars for that!! My feet have been to hell and back, literally. Between the B12 and Lyrica my feet are perfect.  I also have graves Disease and I have had it since I was 10 years old. It has never affected my feet at all.  I think you are going in the right direction with the Neurologist. I am sure he can run the nerve test for Neuropathy. My foot surgeon did the test, and I got the results the following week.  I hope you can find out what is causing your feet all that pain etc., and that they can be treated with meds. As much as I hate to add another pill, I am very happy to have added the B12 and Lyrica. I suffered greatly for 6 years with my feet. That is where RA struck me the worst, and many a day I could not get out of bed due to the pain etc. By the time I was diagnosed with Neuropathy, the pain from it was all the way up to the calfs of both of my legs  I pray you feel better soon. I do know how much you are suffering with your feet, and I know it is the worst thing that anyone could every imagine unless they have it.  Good luck with your tests.  Hugs,  Barbara
