Guest guest
When we bought our Rainbow vacuum cleaner we were shown how to put our pillows (bed & couch) in a plastic bag, suck out all the air with the vacuum cleaner, tie off the bag, and leave them for 24 hours to kill the mites. They flatten up just like those expensive bags and pump you can buy to squish the clothing or bedding down for storage. Would this kill any of the mold or fungus at the same time or make it worse? in La Selva Beach CA, CFS/FMS since a child, now 53 years young Re: Pillows Likely Infected With Fungus I " ve been looking into this too. What annoys me is the outrageous prices charged for cotton pillows, as cotton is cheap, so they're basically taking advantage of the market. One site says if you dry your cotton pillow with 3 tennis balls it won't bunch up. Sounds suspicious to me. Then I see there are pillows with wool filling and with silk filling. Also expensive. My wool filled comforter, I just ruined by washing it, and the wool got bunched up in places so I've ordered a new one. I'm almost tempted to just put my pillows in the drier on high for 30 minutes and let them be. THey are so nice and soft (Down) I can't imagine other materials would be as comfy. ANd I really don't want to spend $300 to replace all the pillows I have (European style, for relaxing in bed)
Guest guest
, I find this type of vacuum cleaner to be very helpful for my allergies. Don't know if it kills the fungus but it probably takes them away and decreases the population. It sure wouldn't make things worse. My doc told me to use only synthetic bedding material and wash them at 60 degrees centigrade monthly.(That was for mite allergy) That procedure also helps me a lot. Best wishes Nil Re: Re: Pillows > When we bought our Rainbow vacuum cleaner we were shown how to put our > pillows (bed & couch) in a plastic bag, suck out all the air with the > vacuum cleaner, tie off the bag, and leave them for 24 hours to kill the > mites. Guest guest
Dear Ken, No I do not need my pillows placed that way now. On occasion, I do use one under my knees, but generally, I can't lie on my back without tons of pain (it wasn't like that for about 1 year postop). Most of the time, I fall asleep on my side with my knees bent in semi-fetal. Blessings, Carla Kay Ps. 96:1,3, & 4a Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Guest guest
Hey Jeri, do you notice dirty carpets and floors more now. Ha-Ha. I always tell people I can remember what their carpets look like, but not what is hanging on their walls. Sure get a different view when your so bent over. I'll be glad to be able to see what's in my kitchen cupboards since my husband took over the cooking and shopping 4 years ago. I'll be anxious to hear how you do and will be praying for you everyday. Pat E. I have had pillow concerns for many years -- I remember just after my 1980 surgery going home in a plaster cast (Risser?) and needing several pillows under my neck just so shoulders would feel comfortable (sleeping on my left side -- I've always been a side sleeper). It got to be a habit, and just a few months ago, I decided to try sleeping on my right side. At first it was less comfortable, but I persisted. Now sleeping on left side is very uncomfortable.I've also noticed that fewer pillows, as few as one or two, helps my back feel better, not great, but better than the several I was used to just a few months ago. There may be more things shifting in that stupid back.It feels like my symptoms are accelerating since I set the date back in November. Just about one week to go. Not looking forward to it, but it's gotta be better than spending the rest of my life in accerating pain, numbness, and looking at my shoes.JeriI used to> sleep with a down pillow on my forehead just to feel the softness of it at> night. Guest guest
We probably all have different pillow preferences, but since I sleep on my side a lot, I need one that will support my head well but not press too hard on my ear. Last year while shopping for a mattress, I found a pillow I like a lot. It is made of little bits of memory foam in a memory foam envelope, encased in soft fabric. The mattress store pillow was much too expensive so I found an equivalent on eBay. It does need fluffing and punching occasionally, but part of why I love it is that I can make its shape just right for me. Sharon [ ] Re: Pillows >I still have pillow issues! Guest guest
I have the dang arthritis in my neck and need a new pillow. My pillow was the best but has gotten old and too flat. I don't remember what kind it was. I have bought 2 different pillows but they are both too fluffy and really hurt my neck. Then I wake up in agony all day. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good pillow? I even spent money on the temperpedic pillow which isn't working for me. Someone said it will be better if I walk on it and break it in more. Haven't tried that yet but on thing I can say is it is extremely heavy when trying to move it around with you when your RA is hurting so bad. By the way, I am a side and stomach sleeper and have to sleep with my arm under my pillow. Just a habit for as long as I can remember. Thanks you guys. I know there are probably many of you with this issue.

Guest guest
My husband bought us Memory Foam pillows, and neither of us could stand them. We threw them away. I like a foam pillow. They are soft but don't lose their shape. I got mine at Walmart, but they are pretty expensive. They're also hard to find. I used to have an ideal pillow. It was made of foam, and had a place scooped out for your head. I just loved it. Unfortunately, I took it with me on a trip, and forgot and left it in a hotel in Florida. I haven't been able to find another one like it anywhere. I wish I could. Sue On Feb 6, 2010, at 4:27 PM, ktandtm wrote: > > Does anyone have any suggestions on a good pillow? Guest guest
Hi , I too sleep the way you do(on my side and tummy at the same time with my arm under the pillow). I use a contoured memory foam pillow, but I have placed my flattened and worn " comfortable " pillow underneath it. I found that the memory foam pillow was just too thin alone, and so was my favorite pillow. I place the two in the same pillow case with the contoured edge of the memory foam pillow facing out, and I sleep sooooo much better. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi - Its good you can still sleep on your side with your arm under your pillow. That was always my favorite way to sleep until this danged RA took over. Now I have to sleep with my arms down and a pillow between my knees for comfort. Its not too bad, but every once in a while I will forget and put my arm up and man, do I pay for it later waking up in pain!! I have two goose down feather pillows (king-sized)- no " stems " to poke - its strictly down. When fluffed (not hard to do), they're firm enough to support my neck and head and easily wrap around my back for additional support and comfort. I tried to find some more like this for my husband, but the ones I got him have the " stems " and they're forever falling out. There are several sites online that sell them. I keep a zippered pillow protector over the pillows as I don't know how to wash them or if they can even be washed. Hope this helps. Good luck..... Guest guest
Hi : My daughter has severe allergies and can only use a 100% goose down pillow. I think they cost around $100.00, but well worth it. She also has to buy special sheets, mattress covers, pillow cases, etc. The Goose down pillows are heavenly to sleep on. She also has severe neck problems as she is a dancer and ruined her neck doing neck rolls. You can machine wash and dry 100% Goose Down feathers. There is no other type of feather in these, so nothing ever comes through the case. You can also have them dry cleaned.  I too have a Tempur pillow, but have to use it with another pillow over it for better comfort. I sure hope you find the right pillow for yourself.  Hugs,  Barbara >
Guest guest
, if you're unsure about allergies with a goose down pillow, you can buy a hypo-allergenic pillow case cover and that should solve that problem. Best of luck..... Doreen Thanks to everyone! My search will continue for my perfect pillow and I will let you know when I find something. I am definetly going to look into the down pillows.
