Guest guest
Kate No, didnt have any problems with a referral to pain management.  I have been on meds for 10 years.  I was able to return to work full time for 3.5 years before becoming " disabled "  so I appreciate the fact without the meds I would have never been able to work. I now have LTD as well as SSD. And I purchased a STD policy so I was fortunate to have never been without income. I see my rheumatologist on Wednesday, and I am going to ask for a pain management referral. Do any of you have experience with getting a referral to a pain management specialist? Did you have trouble with your doctor refusing? What route(s) did you take to get help? For reference, I am 31, diagnosed with RA at 9 and fibro at 29. I take .4 ml injectable methotrexate weekly, an Orencia infusion monthly, Cymbalta, Lyrica, and Ultram-ER as needed. Thanks, Kate P-B, STL Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
Guest guest
I told my Reumatologist that when I had to go to work, I had to be on my feet for almost 12 hours and the pain medicine I was on wasn't working any more. He told me he couldn't give me anything stronger than what I was on, but he would refer me to a pain management clinic. Most RA doctors would rather send you to a pain specialist than to write the prescription themselves. The pain clinic put me on Fentanyl patches 75 mcg and Percocet for breakthrough pain, Neurontin for Fibro, and Miralax for the side effects of the pain medicine. They tried to put me on Provigil for chronic fatique but I couldn't afford the $120 co-pay. I hope your doctor will give you a referal without any problem.
