Guest guest
Fairly late last night I finally got the results of my VATS biopsy that was done on 3/7/08. I had been calling all day and the secretary said it was on his desk but he had signed it and attached a note saying 'Patient informed'. So, they had to wait until he got out of surgery to find out what was going on with it. Finally he called me. This was the surgeon rather than the pulmonologist that I was talking with, but here is what he said. He said I have a small spot of emphysema. Then he said that there is a 'tiny' place that they are not sure about but it could be Usual Interstitial Pneumonia (UIP) He again emphasized that they aren't even sure that is what it is. However, I am getting so suspicious of the doctors when they don't want to address head on questions. I asked him about treatment for this and he said 'Well, I'm going to let the pulmonologist talk with you about that, but it will all turn into pulmonary Fibrosis if left untreated.' Then, before he hung up, he said it may be so small that the pulmonologist wouldn't even want to treat it! What? Those are two conflicting statements! Why wouldn't you treat it if it will only get worse? I go back to the pulmonologist next Monday. This sounds 'better than' it could have been, but then I don't know and when I tried to get the doctor to say that, he danced around it. So, I think it is better than, but not sure exactly what it does mean yet. Ann
