Guest guest
Hi Darlene: I use the very small needles for my inject. of MTX. I use my thighs, never feel the needle, and it never bleeds. I do get mild nausea after my shot, but I take 2 Leucovorin pills 12 hrs. after my injection, and the nausea goes away. I think my needles are diabetic ones. Hope this information helps you. Wishing you pain free days ahead. Hugs, Barbara From: dulainee <dulainee@...> Subject: [ ] Needle size and reactions... Date: Wednesday, June 24, 2009, 3:29 PM Hi everyone, hope you're all pain free or dealing with it easily. I am wondering how everyone takes their MTX injection. When I started I was using a 23 or 25 gauge by 3/8 or 1 inch. EVERY SUNDAY I WOULD DREAD THE THOUGHT OF THAT NEEDLE!!!! I was told and shown by the nurse that the injection should go IM. Now with a new script in hand I go to the pharmacist only to be told that the script stated SQ. FINE!!! He gives me the new needles 31g by 5/16. OOOOHHH MMMYYY GGGAAAWWDDD! These are nothing compared to the previous, so I call the Doc, " whats up with the size needle? " She made a mistake, wants it IM not SQ, reorders more needles at my cost!!!!!! Heres the problem... with the IM injection, the nausea was immediate. With the SQ I barely have any sickness, can anyone concur. Also, does anyone feel a difference with air condition ie: too cold. Guest guest
My Pharmacy is a group of morons under one roof. When I first started the injections the pharmacist had to consult with me because it was urgent that I knew I was not to sell my syringes to drug addicts. My GP laughed when I told him about, he said they don't buy them anymore 'cause they get 'em for free through a government program. On another occasion I went down to pick up my prescription, in a bag, got it, went home and realized I should have checked before leaving the pharmacy. Got the syringes, no medication. I called them, " oh, we're out, we'll have it in a couple of days. " OMG, are you that stupid! I pointed out to them, patiently, that without the medication THE SYRINGES ARE USELESS!!! My girlfriend and I go to this Chinese restaurant maybe once a week because they have a great lunch special. Never ever has the waiter said to me, " four tea bag for you, no water! Guest guest
It seems that someone is giving you a runaround, and maybe enjoying it. I've been giving myself injections for a few years so maybe I understand some of this. I'm now using the standard insulin syringes that you mention, 31 g and 5/16 " long. For a while I couldn't get the ones I wanted since the available needles were too large. And, as far as I know, you don't want to inject IM, but SubQ instead. One problem I have is measuring the dosage. I take 1 cc per week and get it in 2 cc vials. I draw 1.1 cc the first time and the same the next week, and there's some left over. Do you or anyone else have this trouble, or am I the lucky one? Guest guest
Hi Darlene - welcome to the group. I take MTX via injection and initially, my pharmacy gave me (4) 26-gauge(?) needles. After the first four weeks, I went to WalMart and bought a box of 100 ReliOn Insulin Syringes. They're smaller than what I originally had and are not nearly as painful. The markings on the side are a bit different, but I know that I take 0.8ml per week, so it wasn't a big deal. I don't have any nausea side effects, so can't help you there. I live in Florida and the heat and humidity bother me more than anything else. I keep the A/C set at 73 and the humidity setting at 45%. When hubby or daughter complains of being cold, they know to get a blanket. Its much easier for them to warm up than for me to cool off. Hope this helps. Where is Park Ridge? Keep us posted.
