In general, they intubate you and give you a paralytic drug. They feel that way your muscles can not jerk during the procedure. They will give me a block and I won't feel anything from the chest down and a light drug that will put me to sleep, but NO intubation. When they do that, they have to breath for you with a machine and my fear is I may never get off it! Believe me, I'd rather be dead. As far as my kids, they will do anything I ask, my problem is, I HATE to ask. I fight my independent nature every day. My knees are so far gone now, the Dr can't understand how I'm walking at all. I will fight like hell to get my ability to walk back. I have gained 48 lbs since January from this wonderful Prednisone. Without walking, I'll never loose it. I got my Dr to take me off AdVair and I'm down to 2.5mg of the pred and if there is no change, I'll be off it completely in a few weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I had my hip done, I was walking without a cane in 1 week and driving in 2. In Three I was back out selling cars, so I'm pretty tough and heal fast. Just keep praying for me and I'll do my best! Takes a lot of work. That's what I get for never wanting to be married. Divorced 38 years!!!!!!!!!! If you don't mind and your number is available, I'd like to call you one day, maybe after the Dr visit.
