I am writing because I don't think you will get an answer. Since I've been

on this site, I haven't gotten an answer to my question!!

Don't be afraid of that med. You are on it for such a short time. My

husband said it did help him. He is also on thyroid meds and a beta blocker.

Anyway, it sounds worse than it is, unless you have to be on it for a very long

time.

You have been through the mill!! We are trying to avoid surgery for his

problem. Best wishes to you!

I have had back pain for many years. I have DDD and you know it does not get

better. I got tired of the pain, the nerve block injections were not working

anymore, walking was becoming difficult. I decided after weighing everything to

have the surgery. I gave up some motion, movemment to get rid of the pain. I

still have some pain, but it is managable now. I have to admit it was a tough

recovery, but feel it was worth it. I am soon to be 58, and now am having nerve

problem with my left side. So here we go again, with the meds and therapy. I

still have not started the methylplrednisolone, still uncomforatable about

taking it. Penny...

Hi ita - welcome to the group. Prednisone keeps me awake if I take it late

in the day. It works well when I'm having a flare, but I don't particularly like

the weight gain associated with it. Have you been recently diagnosed with RA?

Have you been to a Rheumatologist yet? Hope to hear more from you.....Doreen :)

I was just put on this med, and the bottle doesn't say anything about

drowsiness...it made me very sleepy. Has anyone taken this and how did it work

or not work for you? Maybe it's just me...I'm very sensitive to meds.

Hi ita,

That med keeps me up for a long time! I'm able to clean my house, and

do all the chores, that has been waiting for awhile. Everyone is

different, but I hope it still helps no matter what.

Good luck, and feel better,

Tawny

Yes I did see a Rheumatologist and he diagnosed me with RA...but they seem to

think that neither my FMS nor The RA are causing my symptoms...I just saw a

Physical Medicine Doc and he is the one that put me on this med. He thinks I

have a pinched nerve on my C7-C8 area, and that's what's causing my shoulder

pain all the way down to my hand/fingers. I hope this works for me cause I'm

losing it...not being able to make a fist for 6 months now...and the pain OMG!

About the weight gain..is it that bad? Maybe I can go on a very strict diet? I

only have to take it for 2 weeks...I was already trying to lose weight as it is.

When it's not one thing it's another.

I'm on Prednisone tablets. I was on a heavy dose about 30 years ago for

Crohn's Disease and I did gain about 30 pounds then. I craved crazy foods and

I ate whatever I craved. I lost the weight after having surgery for the

Crohn's and going off the Prednisone.

This time, I think there is some fluid retention, which makes me about five

pounds heavier. I haven't had the crazy cravings and am not continually

gaining weight. However, I am unable to lose weight right now.

I think the weight gain from prednisone varies from person to person. If you

continue to watch what you eat, you should be fine - especially watch your salt

intake. I agree that when its not one thing its another. Another member once

said that sometimes you have to weigh the good against the bad - weight vs pain.

Have you been to an orthopaedic with your hand/shoulder pain? Sounds to me like

you have an impingement somewhere. My Pain Management doctor did some EMG/NCS

tests on me that helped to pinpoint some of my pain. I had carpal tunnel

syndrome on both hands, had surgery and don't have the pain and numbness in my

hands and fingers anymore. I've also had surgery on my shoulder to remove bone

spurs from the humeral head and while I still have pain from the RA, I'm not

getting that sharp stabbing pain that radiated down my arm anymore.

Hope this helps. Wishing you pain free days ahead.....Doreen :)

dd,

It is very hard to lose weight with a chronic disease, taking these

meds, and not able to exercise. I take flexeril for my neck and

shoulder pain, and I could eat the house.

So, when I take these type of meds, I watch what goes in my mouth. I'm

on neurontin too, and haven't really had any weight gain with it.

When I take prednisone, it really makes me eat, so I don't like to take

it long. As for the fluid retention, you might ask your gp doctor for a

water pill. I'm on one, and it does help a lot.

Don't give up, just keep trying, I know how you feel, I struggle daily,
