Guest guest
Hi Everyone. I was doing great but am now flaring badly. My feet are killing me as well as my hands an fingers. Had my blood tested last week and it shows high for flaring. I uped my Pred. to 10 mgs/ a day and am taking Oxycodone for pain. My feet are so painful I really can't stand on them or walk well. Back to using my cane again. I can bearly tolerate the pain this time. I guess all my stress and strife have caused all this. I was doing so well until this week. I had the MRI of my right foot Wed. as well as an x-ray of the large nodule on my right foot. I am hoping it is not infected, as I want the foot surgeon to take if off as soon as he can. The pain in that nodule is horrible. My hands and fingers which have not bothered me in a very long time, are swollen and very painful. I can bearly bend them. What a mess I am in right now. I also had two skin cancer sights removed, and 10 others burned with the Nitrogen. I am usually a good healer but not this time. I have one spot on my shin which was doing good, but noticed last night that to the left of the spot, my skin has torn and is infected. I tried to Butterfly the tear and will call the Derm. Monday a.m. It is 6 " long and looks deep. Off my feet all the time and have them elevated. As everyone knows, when it rains it pours. I have read all the posts but not feeling so hot and my fingers really hurt. I always have said " RA is a ugly disease to deal with and rears its ugly head much too often to all of us. I guess I needed to vent which I do very seldom. Today I just can't bear the pain. You all know what I mean. Love to all my dear friends here. I hope better days are ahead for all of us. You are the best group of people I have ever known. God Bless everyone. Hugs, Barbara

Guest guest
Hi Barbara! I am Kathy from Tomball, Texas. I have had RA for sixteen years now. I am 41 and I was diagnosed post pardum at 25 years old. You sound exactly like me. I do not vent nearly as much as I think we both probably should. I have several reasons. One of the largest being that when all is said and done, we will probably die with RA and not of RA like cancer patients or AIDS sufferers and so on. With that said, I think venting is healthy to an extent and in our condition, I believe that it is a necessary part of maintaining our mental health. OK, I have to say, I read that back to myself and I am so impressed! I sound so much more intelligent than I really am! Hmmmm, cool, huh? Anyway, enough of that. I am not going to go on and on until and if you ask me to. I have had all of the exact same issues you are having. I have not dealt with my skin issues as of yet and would like to hear about that from you if you have a few minutes, but I have had nodules on the bottom of both of my feet and know all too well the pain you suffer. One of them became infected (I was in denial I think) and put me in the hospital. This was just a few months ago. The other was " lanced " in an RA office and I treated it with topical and oral antibiotics. I am going to practice a little self control now. If I don't stop myself, I would go on and on. Please ask me anything you want or ignore me if you want. I hope to hear from you however. To be completely honest, you are the first person in this group that I have ever " responded " to. I think the " vent " comment got me. I am having a very hard time right now, and I literally don't have anyone to vent to, for many reasons (I'll explain at a later time) So...take care. I hope to hear from you. Kathy ________________________________ From: Barbara <bcreedon@...> Sent: Fri, April 30, 2010 6:52:55 PM Subject: [ ] Flaring bad!  Hi Everyone. Guest guest
The information here is fabulous. I recently had my right foot, which is my driving foot. When it started hurting, I went to a podiatrist. It never occurred to me to go back to or to contact my Rheumatologist doctor. The podiatrist was not at all intersted that i had Rheumatoid artiritis and Sarcoidosis. He put me in a flat shoe, which makes my foot hurtt more and time release naproxen that is so expensive that you get a coupon for $30 off of your copay. I wrapped the foot with an ace bandage and put my tennis shoe back on and it felt better. I am on Remicaid which I had at the doctors office.methotrexate once a week. I am now suspecting that the tendonitis is trheumatoid related. My original symptoms were in my hand.  Feel better Kathy VonneB  From: Kathy Egenbacher <egenbacher@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Flaring bad! Guest guest
Oh, sweet Barbara! You have been such a champion for all of us. Encouraging us on in spite of our flares and our pain. If you haven't already, please call your Rheumy. You may need your meds adjusted. I pray the nodule on your foot is not infected. I pray the skin cancer sites all heal without too much more difficulty. Dear Lord, Please wrap your loving arms around our dear sister, Barbara. Take her pain, Lord. You know how much she is hurting. Please help her to put this Ugly RA Monster back to sleep. She was doing so well. Give her peace Lord, in knowing you are there with her...Amen... Honestly, I am really surprised that you haven't had a flare before now with everything that you have gone through with your divorce, etc.. Its like God knew this flare was coming, but held it off until you were in a better place emotionally. Vent away, dear one. Lord knows we all certainly have! If that spot on your legs gets much worse, I wouldn't wait until Monday - maybe you need to go to the ER. I'm sure the swelling in your feet and lets is what has caused this to happen. Take good care, dear Barbara. Keep us posted. You know where to find me..... Doreen <3 Hi Everyone. I was doing great but am now flaring badly. My feet are killing me as well as my hands an fingers. Guest guest
Hi . Thanks so much for your caring e-mail. My Rheumy adj. my Pred. higher, and I am taking the pain med. every 4 hours. She wants to see me if I am still feeling this bad next week. These feet are killers!!! Who knew feet could be so painful. I am off them all day and only get up out of necessity. I am so afraid of falling as I am very unsteady and am using my cane. I bought myself a Pride chair and it makes getting up on my feet so much easier. It also reclines so I can have my feet up all the time. Guest guest
Thanks . It was so nice to get your e-mail. I am feeling a little better tonight. I know the increased Pred. is working and the pain meds. too. I hate to take them every 4 hours, but it does help. I will be glad when my flare settles down. I know all the stress finally brought this on. I hope you are doing good. I think of you a lot and pray things get better for you. No fun to suffer day in and day out. You know what a beast this RA is. I hope you are resting as much as you can.  You are a sweet girl.  Hugs,  Barbara Hi Everyone.
Guest guest
Thank you so much Doreen for your beautiful and caring and loving post to me. It brought me to tears. I appreciate so much your prayers and the love you sent to me. You are such a beautiful, caring woman, and I am glad we are friends. I know you have had a tough battle with your RA and pain. Some days I know just how hard it is to try and get up and out of bed, when we really want to stay in it and pull the covers over our head. RA days are tough on us all.  My Rheumy did increase my Pred. to 10 mgs., and increase how ofen I take the pain meds. I know the Pred. made my feet much better today. Pred. has always been my wonder drug. It lets me have a life. I will call her next week and see her if I am still this bad. MY blood work had 2 things that were high, and she said it is because of the flaring, etc. I should get the resuslts of the MRI and foot x-ray next week. I sure hope it is not infected as I want that nodule removed as soon as I can. Such a painful thing.  I did Butterfly the wound on my shin and so far it is together. I will call my Derm. Mon. and get an appt. so he can see what is going on. My skin is so thin in that area and it doesn't take much for it to open. I think it is due to all the years of steady Pred. Oh the joys of RA!!!  I hope your pain is less and that the new med. is beginning to work good for you. I know it has been a long, hard road between no ins. and living with daily pain. I hope you are also resting more each day. It does help us.  Talk again soon.  Bless you in all ways.  Love and hugs,  Barbara From: Mimi <mimi212@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Flaring bad! Date: Saturday, May 1, 2010, 1:03 PM  Oh, sweet Barbara! Give her peace Lord, in knowing you are there with her...Amen.. . Guest guest
Thank you Kathy. Nice of you to write and say some prayers for me. It means a lot to me. As you well know, RA is a hard disease to live with. No one else can ever know how bad a flare is except those of us with RA. I hope you are feeling alright and resting when you can.  Hugs,  Barbara From: Kathy Egenbacher <egenbacher@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Flaring bad! Guest guest
Hi Kathy. I am very happy to meet you. Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me. It means a lot to me. I am sorry you have this ugly disease too. I feel badly that you got struck so young and in the prime of your life.  Yes, it sure helps to vent when things or pain gets too much for us to bear. We are not alone here, and everyone knows exactly how we suffer with RA. Friends and family will never understand what we are dealing with. They try, but they can't. Everyone here really cares about each other. The compassion and love you feel here is very real. It is the best thing I did for myself joining this group.  I can't imagine you having one of these nodules lanced. The pain must have been excruciating for you. Did they ever consider surgically removing the nodule? I have one on my left foot in the same place, but it is small and just hurts a little.  My hands and fingers are so much better. They aren't hurting and I am able to bend them etc. I am glad the double Pred. is working so good. For me, Pred. is a miracle drug and helps me so much. I am still off my feet most of the day. I am also unsteady on them and will continue to use my cane.  I hope you are able to get off your feet and rest as much as possible. Having RA is very wearing on us, and makes us so, so tired. My Rheumy has always insisted I lie down each day and even if I don't take a nap, the rest is still so important.  Kathy, you may write to me privately if you want to. I have several friends here that I talk to privately.  I hope your day is good today and your pain is less. Again, nice to meet you and take care of yourself.  Hugs,  Barbara From: Kathy OHare <kathyohare@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Flaring bad! Date: Friday, April 30, 2010, 9:30 PM  Hi Barbara! Kathy ____________ _________ _________ __ From: Barbara <bcreedon (DOT) com> @gro ups.com Sent: Fri, April 30, 2010 6:52:55 PM Subject: [ ] Flaring bad!  Hi Everyone. Guest guest
Hi Donna, and thank you for your kind letter. As you and everyone here knows, I love you all. I can't say enough good things about all our members and friends here. How alone we would be without everyone here helping us in our daily struggle with RA.  I hope your RA pain is managed well for you. It does change our lives, but we soon learn what we can and can't do. I am grateful that I can still do some things, maybe in a different way, but I get them done. The hardest thing for me to learn was to learn to pace myself. It took me a long time before I could. I used to do everything in one day, beat my body, then spend a week in bed recovering from it. This was not working for me at all. Now, I make a mental list of what I want to accomplish each day when I get up. If I get it all done great, but if not, I will do it the next day if I am able to do. That has helped me so much. My days of being a world beater are done.  Have a nice day, and try to rest when you can. RA makes us so tired fighting our bodies 24/7. No one but us with RA can understand the awful tiredness we have daily. No amount of sleep cures it. I pray you have many pain free days ahead.  Hugs,  Barbara From: koala2u <koala2u@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Flaring bad! You are always offering so much support to everyone, especially us " newbies " . I hope that you feel so much better really soon, as when the pain hits someone special like you so hard it hits us all too! You are such an important part of this group, and we love you!!
