Hello Everyone!

I'm new to the group. I've been so busy since I've joined. I

haven't had a chance to introduce myself to everyone. My name is

Betty Onellion and I'm 52 and a stay at home mom. I love being with

my children. I still have three children at home. I'm a christian

and love going to church and church activiities. I would love to

lose weigh. I have tried diet after diet but once I get off of them

I gain the weight back and more. I have been cutting back on what I

eat and watching what I eat. Its a slow process but I have managed

to lose 3 pound. Wow that's a lot. NOT

Like so many people when I get nervous or worried I tend to

eat more. I have a soft spot for Chocolate too. I love chocolate and

its hard to stay away from it.

I have a really bad habit and it is after I eat I have to have

something sweet to eat. I wish that I could break that habit as well

as the habit of eating when I'm worried, stressed over something or

when I'm nervous. Does any one have any ideals that could help me?

Thanks everyone!

May God Bless you all!

Welcome Betty O!

I have found that eating a little something sweet at the end of my meal...actually helps me feel satisfied and helps prevent me from compulsively seeking out sweets later. I think it's important to name and recognize what your feeling when you get the "emotional munchies". Many times when I take the time to figure out what's going on with me instead of going to food...the craving goes away. I've also done a fair amount of work with myself around giving myself other options besides eating when I'm dealing with emotional issues or stress. There's a list of "101 things to do besides eat" in the "Files" section of this group. I also made a list of my own things that I really enjoy to do like dancing, walking, being creative, etc. When I'm going to food out of boredom, I look at this list and do something on the list or think of something new to do...and that has been very helpful.

Welcome Betty!

Your post reminded me of where I have been and how far I have come on

this journey.

The beautiful thing about IE is that you can have your chocolate -

and more amazing is that eventually chocolate isn't " all that " . When

you can have it all the time it loses its magic. Please be gentle

with yourself and realize that what seems now like a " bad habit " is

connected to the inner wisdom of your body, a body that is trying to

protect you from what it sees as another " famine " (another diet!)

There is an expression of my husband's about futility " You can't push

a rope " Well, I spent many many years trying to " push a rope " -

until I found IE and realized I had been going about it all wrong -

so much easier when I " pull the rope " and then it just flows!

Welcome to our group here, you will find everyone is thoughtful and

supportive. So many wise wonderful women (and men!) here!!
