Guest guest
Hi, Just had to answer because I ate 1/4 of a watermelon last night. It was so good no seeds. I woke early this morning and felt better than I have in weeks. but I had also taken some cough medicine I had left from last year and some MucinexDM. I can even make a fist in one hand today and almost in the other. The difference in the way I felt yesterday and today is such an improvement I have been waiting all day for my internet to come on so I could check out the cough medicine. I finally called and had to unplug and plug back in and it worked. Here is info on cough med. Each teaspoonful (5 mL) of TUSSIONEX Pennkinetic Extended-Release Suspension contains hydrocodone polistirex equivalent to 10 mg of hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine polistirex equivalent to 8 mg of chlorpheniramine maleate. TUSSIONEX Pennkinetic Extended- Release Suspension provides up to 12-hour relief per dose. Hydrocodone is a centrally-acting narcotic antitussive. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine. TUSSIONEX Pennkinetic Extended- Release Suspension is for oral use only. I have gotten so much more done today. I wasn't in pain yesterday just didn't feel good and had some swelling in hands and was congested and coughing. It is hard to believe 1 teaspoon can make this much differene. I really feel like a normal person today. Hope all of feel better soon. --- In , " musiclvr3237 " <musiclvr3237@...> wrote: > > Hi everyone, > > Since I was first diagnosed with RA in 1991/92, I have continually searched for answers as to why and how I came to have this disease. > I am starting to think it has something to do with watermelon. From: musiclvr3237 <musiclvr3237@...> Subject: [ ] Watermelon, Citrulline, and RA flares Date: Monday, July 27, 2009, 12:59 PM Hi everyone, Since I was first diagnosed with RA in 1991/92, I have continually searched for answers as to why and how I came to have this disease. I am starting to think it has something to do with watermelon. I remember when I was pregnant with my first son, I could have ate a small watermelon a day. I thought watermelon was healthy and good nutrition for me so I did eat a lot of it. As of last week, I had my last piece of watermelon. Why? Well, it finally occured to me that every time I have a piece of watermelon, either later that day or the following day I have a painful flare. I can't believe it has taken me this long to figure it out. I did some research about watermelon, and found that is contains a significant amount of Citrulline. I was amazed at what I read although I still don't fully understand how we can use this information to find a cure, but I believe I have stumbled on to something. I am going to post another message with what I have read about Citrulline, and am very interested in what all of you think. My new post will follow in about an hour. Take care everyone. Guest guest
Hi - I have been curious too. After much searching, I found by googling " Citrulline and RA " - " Research suggests that in the joints of patients with rheumatoid arthritis, proteins may be changed to citrulline as part of the process that leads to inflammation of the rheumatoid joint. Citrulline antibody has also been referred to as anti-citrulline antibody, anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody, and anti-CCP. " So, IMHO, watermelon is one of the foods to AVOID due to the inflammation it can cause in RA joints. AND its rather ironic that the citrulline watermelon contains is the same chemical that is looked for during bloodwork when diagnosis RA. Also, another interesting find " foods containing citrulline " - flaxseed contains citrulline. I've been taking flaxseed oil capsules because of the Omega-3 benefits. I think I'm going to try stopping that and see how I do. I don't take the fish oil supplements because hubby is allergic to fish. I guess we'll have to search out other ways to increase Omega-3. More searching finds that citrulline can be found in cucumbers and cantaloupe, meat, fish, eggs, milk, legumes and other foods which are rich in proteins. HOWEVER - from what I've been reading, the levels of citrulline in these foods varies. SO, I would experiment. If you find that eating a certain food makes you hurt more in the morning, don't eat it anymore. Hope this helps. Its definitely been " food for thought " for me.....Doreen > > Friends....any update about the watermelon theory? > > > ltdavis_jrdavis@...
