Different states have different policies.

It isn't a national program.

Debi,

First, can you get another Dr? Sounds like the guy's a jerk in the

'patient-relations' department, not to mention somewhat unprofessional.

OK, so much for my judgement and doctor-bashing. There are alot of Drs.

who want patients to try PT. For my apparent buldging disc problem, even

I got ten weeks of PT 3 times a week. It did more for my legs than

anything (Barry, are we going dancing?)

About getting handicapped seating at events: Forget needing a Drs. note.

Just about all the time when I call to order tickets, I ask for it. No

one has ever questioned my need for it. Once in awhile I have been asked

if I am in a wheelchair, or can I sit in a regular seat - I think that

has to do with fire regulations and the aisles, etc. So I am just honest

and upfront and get what I need. So really your Dr. doesn't need to

write you a note. But his reaction to your wanting a note for a

particular need you have really is assinine. My Dr. has always been very

accommodating for what I need with things like that.

Some of the big theaters in LA are built VERY steep and VERY high up,

from the street level. My worst problems there are with 1) balance (not

good hand rails) and 2) crowds pushing. Sometimes I imagine myself being

hurled off balance into someone's lap.

Maybe you can do stairs in PT maybe not.PT had me doing the stairs too.

In the pool. Like I said, it helped my legs alot.(Don't think it did

much for my back - that was left to me) Not to worry. Just ask for what

you need when you get your tickets to events and enjoy. Oh, be sure to

say how many people will be with you, so you don't end up sitting alone.

Last year there was a UCLA Football or Basketball game (what's the

difference?lol) and a disabled guy could sit in handicapped seating, but

not his friend.

As for getting the handicapped parking placard, I'm like Barry. I use it

when I need it, at my discretion. I think initially I needed a Drs.

letter to be sent along with my application and $6.00 to the Dept. of

Motor Vehicles. All my Dr. said on it was something about a 'mobility

impairment' and 'needs close parking' - he didn't allude to anything

that might make the DMV think I could not drive. Now every few years I

just get sent a renewal form for that placard. I think you can also find

out about those through Auto Clubs. Sorry for the long post. I just got

a bit too wired on some expresso.... ~ G
