Guest guest
My dd is 3.5 and she can not pedal a tricycle. That is interesting, I just thought it was my dd. She is having the most difficult time with potty training as well. Our neuro told us that she has motor incoordination due to Apraxia. > > Hi all > > I know someone said here recently that the liquid fish oils should be > refrigerated, but what about the capsules? Guest guest
This is a really random reply to the second question, but here goes: My son's SLP was walking in the park and overheard two ladies talking about one of the lady's apraxic sons. This lady was from California. Anyway, my son's SLP started to eavesdrop a bit (because they were talking about apraxia) and the lady with the apraxic son was confiding to her friend how much trouble they had teaching her son, who was 10, to ride a bike. She ended up calling his OT from when he was little and asking if she could just come work with him for a day or two to teach him how. I'm sorry to say I don't know how this turned out, but it sounds like a good idea, so I thought I'd pass it along. As for fish oils, I don't think under normal conditions you need to refrigerate the capsules since the oil does not get exposed to air (because it's encapsulated). However, if you don't have central air conditioning and your house gets very hot, you may want to because I think the heat is bad for the oil (it's really bad for most oils; they go rancid). I figure since the liquid kind gets refrigerated the cold won't hurt it. > > Hi all > > I know someone said here recently that the liquid fish oils should be > refrigerated, but what about the capsules? Guest guest
Hi, My globally dyspraxic DS couldn't ride a trike at 4. Then my OT had me put his feet on the pedals (velcro him if needed) and pulled him around so his legs will learn the movement of the pedals. I pulled him almost daily from the living room to the family room back and forth for nearly five months before he started to pedal himself. Now he can do a short run but still has difficulty going backwards--another set of leg movements to learn. Typical of motor planning difficulties. Take care, __________________________________________________
Guest guest
My son will be 7 years old in August. He still can't ride a bike. He gets around this by walking his bike! He will spend an hour just walking with his bike around the yard. We sort of got around this by buying him a scooter. He can do the one leg push with no problem. This came in handy when our school had a bike-a-thon. At least he was able to ride something! As for toilet training....He was 5 1/2 yrs old. Boy, I thought I'd never see the end of diapers:). One day I was in a bad mood, and when he asked me about santa I said that Santa prefers when boys go on the potty. That night he was trained and hasn't had a pull-up since! Guest guest
I love it!!! I think I mentioned once on this site how we had tried everything and nothing really worked until I said " you made the mess, now you clean it up " he understood that perfectly and never pooped in his pants again. he didn't have apraxia though, so this may not apply to some little tykes.. He was somewhere around 4 when this all happened, he is 28 now..My 8 year old daughter on the other hand had a much more difficult time and was 6 when she no longer had messes. She was in an orphange and unable to walk til 3.5 so was very delayed but she remembers having to be in stinky diapers when she was in the crib. But I am sure the apraxia was part of her issue and delay. Guest guest
I haven't seen any responses on your questions so will tell you has been going to PT and they include a bike for her exercise that has a small set of pedal like things for the handlebars while she is pedaling with her feet. The PT helps with reminding her when her body is off center and teaches her to shift herself for balance. My daughter is 8 and wants to learn but just didn't have the motor planning down to help find her center of gravity. we also had gotten her a new bike for Christmas, it had training wheels but they didn't keep her from falling over as she didn't catch her balance so we installed a bar that comes out about 2 to 3 foot from her seat that my husband found on the web. It helps my back as I walk along with her (I don't have to bend over and hold the seat) but it is not the cure in fact we haven't used it much in the last 2 or 3 months rather we have had lots of luck with roller skates..will try the bike again later. My daughter takes the fish oils well..chews them up and gives the shells to our daschund who thinks they are treats..We don't refrigerate them. Good luck!!! it takes lots of patience and no quick fixes..A funny story to share..I was interviewing an OT about my daughters inability to throw and release a baseball for (T-ball) . Any way the OT said " have her throw ice cubes " of course I went home all excited and poor just ended up with cold water dripping down her arm... The neurologist said he had heard of the problem but that he knew of no cure but practice and he was right..Now 80 percent of the time she is throwing with great accuracy and releasing the ball and we continue to practice. Guest guest
Hi, was just wondering from some of you who have had RA for a while do you see your Rheumatologist or the ortho when you have a really bad joint problem? my RA has been flaring bad for around 2 or 3 months but its usually in my knees and hands. my left shoulder feels like it has glass in it and hurts all the way to my hand. It doesnt really feel like the usual RA pain but was trying to decide which one to go see. I need to see the RA anyways soon to get back on some meds. the other question is, I was on Methotrexate before and used to get really bad heartburn from it. My doc said he would probably try Enbrel next time if I flared up again which I have. I know everyones different but anyone have major side effects from Enbrel?? Thanks Kim
Guest guest
Hi Kim - The best thing for your joint issues is to have your RA doc see you first. If an ortho is needed, your RA doc will let U know. I'm not a good person to ask about Enbrel but I believe there are several people in the group that have had good results! Best to you - in SC Sent from my iPhone On Jan 21, 2010, at 7:31 PM, " lankfordlk " <lankfordlk@...> wrote: Hi, was just wondering from some of you who have had RA for a while do you see your Rheumatologist or the ortho when you have a really bad joint problem? my RA has been flaring bad for around 2 or 3 months but its usually in my knees and hands. my left shoulder feels like it has glass in it and hurts all the way to my hand. Guest guest
Kim, I've been on Enbrel for over 5 years, with no adverse side effects. It works wonderfully well for me.
