Hi Rhonda,

Yes, since I'm just one state away from you, I, too had to travel to

get this wonderful surgery! I decided on Dr. Keshishian, in Delano,

California for many reasons, and boy am I glad I did! *smile* After

doing much research, I decided the DS was the ONLY surgery for me...I

simply was not going to settle for the RNY. I was simply not willing

to spend the rest of my healthy adult life with such a restrictive

diet. At that point, I made the decision to go out of state to find

my doctor. After reading several posts and testimonials about " Dr.

K " as he is so affectionately called, he sounded like my kind of

doctor. Nurses in his hospital..the ones who treat us, spoke of his

kind ways...his excellent skills, his devotion to his patients. I

called his office and was referred to his coordinator, Barbara

Metcalf, RN. She answered all my questions, was warm and friendly

and seemed genuinely concerned about me so far away! She realized I

was in New Mexico and spoke reassuringly to me about my travel. She

even helped me find a hotel room very close to Dr. K's office for my

consultation visit! She suggested I plan my consult on the same day

as a support group meeting, which I thoroughly enjoyed! After meeting

the doctor, speaking with Barbara and Dee and meeting his entire

support team, I knew this was the place for me! My surgery is

scheduled for October 24th! The entire staff continues in their

support of me, still answering any questions I may have. I have met

many people online that are traveling to Dr. K...he's worth it!

Let me know if I can answer any questions...I'd be happy to!!

Rhonda-

Traveling for this particular surgery is very common since so few docs do

it. I traveled from Australia and had my surgery in Portland, Oregon.

Please let me know of any specific questions that you have--you usually need

to stay in the area about 10-14 days postop just to be sure everything is

OK. Good luck!

Warm Regards,

Melbourne, Australia
