See http://www.mercola.com/aspartam.htm

for some interesting info on ASPARTAME

this is an exerpt:

Brain tumors and seizures in aspartame-fed animals indicate a possible risk to

humans. The dictionary

definition of safe means " not presenting or involving any danger or risk "

(Webster's 877). Does this

mean aspartame is not safe? The answer lies in the hands of the public. Although

aspartame was not

tested on humans before its approval, it now has been tested on the public by

default. Over 200 million

Americans consume aspartame products (Weininger 1/ZZ1). We have been the guinea

pigs in the testing of

aspartame without even knowing it. A look at aspartame's ingredients and its

devastating effects on

human beings provide the evidence for avoiding all aspartame products.

Looks like I waited too long to post it & infobeat took it down. Go to

the Monsanto website and check their investor relations section and

their press releases. You should be able to find it their.

All artificial sweeteners contain wood alcohol and other

chemicals.

My daughter always a had fairly time with her menstruation;

but in the past year it began to be terrible. Finally she

bled for 6 weeks without stopping and had terrible cramps

and miseries. I told her to quit aspartame totally. She

did and it all went away. She is back to normal for her.

The FDA no longer works for the interests

of the people; but for the interests of

Corporations as does the rest of the

government. You cannot trust anything

the FDA says anymore. They say medicines are

safe, when in fact they are crippling and

killing people.

The new issue of the " Journal of American

Medicine " has an article stating that Doctors

are the third leading cause of death in the USA.

http://www.mercola.com/2000/jul/30/doctors_death.htm

250,000 deaths a year.

They can get away with this because Big Business

is running this country. We cannot be born or die

or anything else in between without medical approval.

aspartame

Sheri,

Actually Lee is right on the money on that subject. Look it

up on the net,

and do some reading.

My own experience with aspartame has been one of illness. I

cant touch the

stuff. I get migraines if I even chew gum with aspartame in

it.

I realize that the FDA has approved it, and that it is a

billion dollar

industry. It makes me wonder, however, how interested the

FDA truly is in

the public well being, when it approves such poison for our

consumption, and

blatantly refuses to acknowledge such sweeteners as Stevia

which is an herb

that has been used for centuries. That which even diabetics

can use safely.

There is a wealth of information on aspartame and its

effects.

Here's a few books that are helpful,

Deadly Deception : Story of Aspartame : Shocking Expose of

the World's Most

Controversial Sweetener by Nash Stoddard

Food Sweeteners - Aspartame and Its Adverse Reactions,

Strange Symptoms,

Illness Behavior and Controversy : Index of New Information

With Authors and

by Miladie L., Dr Dillard.

Bittersweet Aspartame : A Diet Delusion

by Barbara A. Mullarkey.

Here's a link for recipes using Stevia

http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/4966/recipes.htm

I especially like this site. She is most helpful in

explaining candida and

the doctor she advocates gives 10 min evaluations for free.

He has a

promising treatment. I'm starting on his regimen this week.

I'll let you all

know how it goes.

Most of all, we as individuals are responsable for our

health. I'm not a

doctor or a therapist, but I know my own body, and what

makes it feel

healthy and what makes it ill. Aspartame is poison. Do your

research and

decide for yourself.

I hope some of this helps.

God bless.

If the government truly cared about the health of the people why would

it still aloow cigarettes to be manufactured? And why does it allow

refined sugar to be put into every processed food from meatballs to

potato chips?

I don't think you get any instant change if you stop eating aspartame. I

believe its toxic effects build up over time.

Some schools of thought beleive candida can thrive on artifical

sweeteners, making all your other diet efforts pointless, if it is true.

Personally I don't take the risk.

You can make ginger ale, cherryade, strawberryade, lemonade, limeage

even honeydewmelonade, by using the whole fruit plus fizzy mineral

water.

No, Lee, I do not believe anyone wants you to leave the list. i do not. You were angry at melody because you thought she sent that message. i noticed that it did not have the same fonts that Melody was using, so I went back and looked up what happened.

Melody used that message to "reply" to the list to unsubscribe. It looked as if it might have come from Melody because all she put on it was in the "subject" line to be unsubscribed. she did not add anything to the body of the message.

The original message is below the one you wrote. You can look and see. A simple mistake has been made.

You are having a difficult time, as many of us are. We all are not operating at our best. That is why we are on this list. No one should leave.

I remember reading on the Coca Cola bottles that one is only allowed to

consume a certain amount of Asparatame per day.

But for us.. don't know.. I can't swallow carbonated drinks!

I posted that article in part because it seems to me that The Mayo

Clinic is a trustworthy source of medical information. And if it is

true that the substances in aspartame are ones that occur naturally

anyway, then for most people, it's probably not an issue.

But then, for some people, it is -- namely, phyloketonurics.

I, too, am distrubed by those who simply want to fan the flames.

Anyway, if the methanol is broken down into carbon dioxide and water,

then I don't imagine that it could be that dangerous. But then, I'm

not a biochemist.

It also says:

" Although methanol is an alcohol, foods sweetened with aspartame

yield a very small amount of it. In fact, the amount of methanol that

results from drinking a 12-ounce can of soda sweetened with aspartame

is less than half that obtained from drinking an 8-ounce glass of

fruit juice. "

Doesn't sound like a problem to me. But then, apparently my body

doesn't have a problem with phenylalanine. Presumably that was the

problem (?) had with his liver.

Forgive me for being redundant and for repeating myself. ;)

Hey Kit,

I agree that aspartame is one of the most, if not the most tested food

products on the market. But that's not to say whether or not it's one of the

safest on the market tested. Do to the personal problems I've had with the

additive itse, I want everyone to be aware of the side effects, and to

discontinue using it if one of these side effects rear it's ugly head.

Per Hussman EAS intentionally includes Aspartame as it is a source of the

amino acid phenylalanine and whet protein is short in that amino acid. It

also adds to the sweetness of the product and thus performs two roles.

Whether it ultimately turns out to be the worst product ever invented or the

best, it is one of the most if not the most tested food products on the

market.
