Guest guest
Yeah, I've found those but this was something different. There were all kinds of recipes by a Mom who made them for her kids. I guess one day I'll find them again but in the mean time, no more carbonated beverages. Guest guest
Sherry, I hear you- I drank at least 6 diet cokes a day for about 20 years (starting around age 14). I loved it. After I quit drinking and smoking too, it seemed like my only pleasure. It took me years to give it up. But when I did, a bunch of mysterious health issues resolved. I have learned to like plain water- but there are some other things I think of now as replacement treats: kombucha coconut water sparkling water an occasional regular soda (with real sugar instead of HFCS if I can find it) by occasional I mean once or twice a month, you can even buy those mini-cans and then it's only 90 calories and still feels like a treat- I love carbonation I guess. I hope that helps. Once I got off aspartame, I felt so much better, I know I will never touch it again. Good luck! > > Thanks, Steph > > That's disturbing, and I just found out that Splenda has it's own issues. I don't know how I'm going to give up all aspartame and Splenda products. Guest guest
If aspartame and splenda didn't case weight gain for a long time you were lucky! They are known to cause weight gain they will catch up with you eventually in may toxic ways if you continue to use them. I used aspartame for years before I knew how toxic it was and then got scammed into the spenda for a while too I am certain may of my current health issues were helped into the crisis level by my use of those toxins. Spelnda is sugar with a chlorine atom added so it kills friendly flora and screws with iodine to boot. So, I don't think it had those effects on me.A few months ago, I switched mostly to Splenda because I thought it was supposed to be completely safe. I just read about Splenda having chlorinated molecules or something like that (I can't remember the exact term). I'm wondering if I'm getting a bunch of chlorine that I didn't even realize (from Splenda), and my inability to effectively detox it has caused the weight gain I noticed almost immediately after starting iodine.Sherry> >> > >> > >> > > Steph...A few weeks ago or so, I think during a discussion on detox, you> > > provided a link that included the word "aspartame". Guest guest
I use sweet leaf liquid flavored stevia in my water, which is zero calories and lots of flavor. My favorite flavor is apricot nectar. You can buy it at some health food stores and online. Guest guest
I wouldn't be surprised if that chlorine atom in Splenda (I've been drinking plenty of Splenda sweetened soda since late last year) is what has been causing me detox issue/weight gain with iodine. The white powder i use for cooking and baking and no detectable bitterness either. Guest guest
I know that theory, Gracia, but it's not the case me...I've been dieting the same way for years. And I usually eat small portions many times throughout the day, which is good for the metabolism. So much so that it's a major hassle to take anything on an empty stomach. Anyway, it always worked fine until I started hydrocortisone (weight gain is a typical side effect), and then the problem intensified within days after I started iodine. I really think I'm not detoxing well. Guest guest
>You can use pure maple syrup--this does not make your sugar go up. I'm not at all convinced of this. I've been hypoglycemic since I was a teenager, and I'm a sensitive barometer of whether sugars shoot blood sugar or not. Although I love maple syrup and I think it is a healthy product, it gives me a sugar high very close to sucrose. Agave does not. I realize agave has been frowned upon in some quarters of late, but it's one of the few sweeteners that doesn't give me the sugar high, so I continue to feel that it works for me. I also like xylitol, which some people frown on. We've been using palm sugar lately, which is great and does not give me the sugar rush. I have to avoid the sugar rush because I crash real bad afterward, physically and emotionally. Also, I don't use very much sweetener on a daily basis, so I feel that my judicious use of these products is within healthy boundaries. ymmv, of course. -- At 12:20 PM 3/25/2010, you wrote: > >From: KENNETH GENTILE <gentile@...> >iodine >Sent: Thu, March 25, 2010 12:33:10 PM >Subject: RE: Re: Aspartame > > > >Be careful of all commercial products with stevia.I read an article >stating that when " natural flavors " are added to the stevia this is a way >they hide msg.I would only buy from a health food store. >Pat > > >---------- >iodinegroups (DOT) com >From: slehr05 (DOT) com >Date: Wed, 24 Mar 2010 22:56:32 +0000 >Subject: Re: Aspartame > > >Interesting. ..Is the Crystal Light with stevia available at ordinary >grocery stores? > > > > > > > > I use stevia. > > > > > > Steph > > > > > > > > > Re: Aspartame > > > > > > > > > > > > Thanks, Steph > > > > > > That's disturbing, and I just found out that Splenda has it's own > issues. Guest guest
The body can convert just about anything to glucose including protein. It's just a question of how fast and how much. Some forms of sugars are more easily digested and hit the system faster than others. It takes longer to convert proteins to sugars, so the glucose spike isn't as high or as fast as regular table sugar. The more complicated the sugar molecule the longer it takes to be converted. The amount of fiber consumed with the sugars make a difference in digestion speed and the time it takes for sugars to hit the blood stream also. Glucose is not a demon in disguise, in fact the brain HAS to have glucose to function. But it's the types of sugars consumed that are bad news if you have cells that are insensitive to insulin. Glucose rises, then insulin rises, any glucose in excess of what the body needs is stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles and once the muscles and liver are full then it is deposited as adipose tissue. This system worked great for hunter gatherer societies and in times of famine when food was scarce. It is a survival mechanism that kept humans alive. The problem with our modern diets is the overabundance of simple processed sugars combined with chemical toxins that knock the body out of balance. Don't eat anything out of a box or can, and try raw unprocessed sugars as much as possible. Same as we use unprocessed salt. Sugar from cane in the unprocessed state is full of minerals and vitamins, but they strip all the good stuff from the sugar and bleach it. Of course I'm not saying eat it in excess but in moderation raw unprocessed cane sugars are better than white sugar. Honey is good in moderation, lots of good stuff in honey. Blackstrap molasses is full of minerals and vitamins also. So sugars of the right type in moderation aren't evil, as long as they are used in moderation. The problem with the Western diet is that we don't get sugars in moderation and we get the wrong kinds of sugars, the processed refined sugars in everything. Look on the boxes of foods on the grocery store shelves. There is sugar added to just about everything, as well as processed refined salt. And of course there is the " natural flavoring " msg that makes you want to eat more of whatever. Even 's soups, for heaven's sake. It's cheaper to add less ingredients and increase the msg, it improves profit margins because adding msg is a lot cheaper than adding more real chicken or veggies or whatever. The more msg they add the less real ingredients they have to use, since msg makes the flavor more intense. LMAO, I could go on and on I reckon. And I'd be preaching to the choir. Guest guest
I found it interesting the comment on aspartame. I am extremely allergic to asparatme. In the 90's, when it was in everything, I had two delayed anaphylactic reactions to it. My daughter and one of my sisters also can not ingest it. From one of my bad experiences (Mcs had mixed diet coke into my Mr. Pibb) It took six months for that one dose of aspartame to clear my system. Each time I was pulled from zyrtec I broke out in the rash and started swelling. A chemical that remains present for six months is scarry to me. Back then (in 90;s) I read some studies that showed a single experiment and I don't know if repeated to validate, that a nursing home with a high number of residents with " organic brain syndrome " or alzheimer's were also diabetic and when removed from products with aspartame had a significant cognitive improvement way beyond expectations. I never allow my grandkids to get anything with aspartame in it and discourage amongst close friends. I have done splenda or stevia without any rash, or side effects. I plain stick to unsweetened tea and avoid pop of any kind due to it's damage to bone density, etc. I just thought to add my experience and observations.  Dale Ellen
Guest guest
Dale, Thank you for the info. I was just talking about going and buying the little packs to put in my tea since I want to cut out sugar. I think I will try that new Truvia (sp) It is suppose to be from a plant. I have always been against the Aspartame products but for some reason was going to cave in and use it. (what was I thinking) Your post was a Godsend. Sorry you had to go through what you did. Its crazy that stuff stays in the system for 6 months. I wonder why? I never allow my grandkids to get anything with aspartame in it and discourage > amongst close friends. I have done splenda or stevia without any rash, or side effects. I plain stick to unsweetened tea and avoid pop of any kind due to it's damage to bone density, etc. I just thought to add my experience and observations. >  > Dale Ellen > >
