Guest guest
Do you use the CDAP for the sleep apnea? I'm about to try it out as I did the monitor test a couple of months ago and was found to have a " mild " problem. I wake up tired with mild headaches and seem to not get much restorative sleep. Further complications result in lower back and various thorax muscle problems from staying in bed more than 6 hours. - EdM -----Original Message----- From: swolfnc2@... <swolfnc2@...> egroups <egroups> Date: Sunday, November 05, 2000 10:25 AM Subject: [] contact list, sleeping, hands, sharing > >2) Sleeping, does anyone else get the pleasure of sleep apnea? Guest guest
Edwin, Regarding CPAP(Constant Positive Airway Pressure)and sleep apnea. The problem occurs because when you " forget " to breathe you lose pressure in the windpipe and it collapses. Then after a period of time your brain says breathe and you need to suck in enough air to both inhale and reinflate your windpipe. This frequently will nearly wake you, but it will keep you from deep and restful sleep. after several years of this you will develop such a sleep defecit that you will constantly fall asleep during the day. Hence the danger. The CPAP has enough pressure to keep your windpipe inflated and then you don't wake up enough to get out of deep sleep, and then you rest. The headgear isn't that bad when you compare the result. In my case I was falling asleep while driving(13 times in one month) I am lucky. That is basically how it works. I stopped breathing 250 times in 3 hours of " sleep " often for 25-30 seconds before " jolting " myself to breathe. The problem could be either obstruction(fatty tissue) or nerve signal. I have some of each. good luck Dick> >

RE swelling of feet - yes, I have it and it is extremely irritating on a daily basis. Whether CMT or not, I don't know, but I think it probably is, in the sense of wear and tear on the feet and the feet reacting by swelling. (I'm not a nurse or doctor, but it just seems that way to me.) For sure, standing on my feet makes the condition much worse! Also contributing factors are the weather - heat and high humidity will always worsen my edema, so the Texas summer months are awful. I do not have a good answer! I do take a mild diuretic and it may help some. Lately I have finally found some knee-high compression hose that help a lot without being so tight that they feel like they're cutting off my circulation. They are Bauer & Black and are sold OTC (I got mine at Eckerd Drugs). They have styles for men. I use the mildest compression in the largest size. For sure also, keeping your feet elevated helps a lot. Standing on one's feet is a polar opposite of that! Good luck with a solution. I've discussed this problem with numerous docs and never gotten a good answer, unfortunately! Carolyn
