Guest guest
Tammy- I take the Enbrel shots and had difficulty with the pain factor also. My solution, I now take a pen-wipe it off with an alcohol pad and just prior to my injection, I put the pen in my mouth and bite down HARD. The pain is much more bearable. Lorraine From: Tammy Fredricks <tammyfredricks@...> Subject: [ ] Humira, painful shots Date: Monday, May 3, 2010, 6:31 PM  Hi all, For those that are on the Humira pen shots, is anyone having any problems with the shots being very, very painful? I have tried it in my stomach and today did my thigh. ARGH!! The stomach shots hurt bad enough, so today when I did the thigh, I put an icepack on. Not sure what else to do. I have a prescription lanocaine ointment, could I numb the skin with that before alcohol wiping it and doing the shot? Any other ideas? Thanks, Tammy in WI
Guest guest
Lorraine, Hmmmm, I think I'd be afraid I would break some teeth and need to go to the dentist! But....I do like the dentist a heck of a lot more than these shots. Thanks! Guest guest
sorry to chime in late ladies, but have you tried: icing your site for several minutes taking tylenol or ibuprofen prior having a cocktail or beer if you drink alcohol watching television or reading a magazine while someone else gives you the shot Kat eF ________________________________ From: Tammy Fredricks <tammyfredricks@...> Sent: Tue, May 4, 2010 10:14:14 PM Subject: RE: [ ] Humira, painful shots
Guest guest
Not late at all! I still need help with this one. I don't think I can drink enough alcohol (and still function) to take away the pain. Basic same principal goes for the tylenol or ibuprofen. I wonder if I can get my hands on some oxycontin? Maybe that would help. I do work in a high school. I plan on going back from my thigh to my stomach next time and will ice it longer. thanks! Guest guest
Morning Tammy, I've been on humira a year now. I don't use the injector pen instead I use the pre filled syringes. The self filled syringe has a fine short insulin needle. There is very, very little pain delivering the medication yourself cause you can inject it in very slowly which you can't do with the pen method. You do need to read and follow the instructions or watch the video to do it yourself or have someone else do it this way. ......
Guest guest
No, but I could use a Guinness right about now...too bad they're on the no-no list for me.... > > sorry to chime in late ladies, but have you tried: > icing your site for several minutes > taking tylenol or ibuprofen prior > having a cocktail or beer if you drink alcohol > watching television or reading a magazine while someone else gives you the shot > Kat eF > > > > > ________________________________ > From: Tammy Fredricks <tammyfredricks@...> > > Sent: Tue, May 4, 2010 10:14:14 PM > Subject: RE: [ ] Humira, painful shots > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
Hi Tammy I found the same thing when I started taking the Humira pre-filled pen. I found that leaving it out to get to room temperature helps tremendously. I checked with my rheumy and he said this is a good idea. Last week I was in a rush so had to inject it cold - it hurt so much. I also take a few Nurofen Plus about a half hour before. Cheryl > > > Not late at all!
