Guest guest
Hi Angie...I used to live in florida (both coasts) and didn't have any problems finding a rheumy. I lived in St Pete. I live in Ohio now and they're pretty scarce here. I'm jealous...do you have room in your suitcase??? Good luck with the job. a In a message dated 5/3/2010 11:17:53 A.M. Guest guest
Hi Angie. I live about 35 min. from Ft. Myers. I have the most wonderful Rheumy. She has an office in Venice, which is about 40 min. from Ft, Myers. It is a very easy drive on 75, and she is right off the exit. Any other info. you need about this area or anything, I will be glad to help you.  Great weather right now. Good luck about your new job.  Hugs,  Barbara From: thestitchartist <angela@...> Subject: [ ] Fort Myers, FL Date: Monday, May 3, 2010, 10:37 AM  Hello All. Guest guest
Barbara...How are Port Chalotte and Englewood? Fort Myers was busy when we went there back in the early 90's....I can't imagine it getting any busier but it can...because Coral springs on the east coast got bad also. Hard to believe. Guest guest
Thanks for that info Barb.... I have a friend who found a rental in Port Charlotte for $1000 a month...uh-oh. He wanted to find a place where he could take his dog....a lab...and jumped on it. I don't like that low rate....something's not good. It's a whole house too....so that worries me. He's happy.... I'd want to go down and stay myself during a month or two in the wintertime at a nice one bedroom condo with my little shih poo. I'll see if I can swing it. I'll check more into Englewood then. Port Charlotte used to be a sleepy little town....went there once and there was nothing... Is Venice nice? I've been to Naples but I'm not that crazy about it. I want a place where you can drive to the beach and the beach is free of huge homes and private beaches. Wow...I didn't know Frt Myers got that bad. Yikes...I knew it was super crowded but not murders. that's scary. It's been nice here....70s and sunny....50 some on saturday...geesh..no wonder we get sick. I know...prednisone is a wonder drug along with the enbrel. Just upping it helps so much. So glad that you're feeling better. I'm glad to hear that..and swimming too....can't beat that. It's been a year on the 27th that passed.....seems like yesterday at times and then sometimes not. Doing okay though. It was a nice peaceful sunny day..... I know you're having a hard time...those were a lot of years to be together....you always think it will never end. I know its worrisome thinking about those legal fees.....maybe the ex will have to pay it. Any chance of that? I hope so. You shouldn't have to. Its always a worry though. Your tree sounds beautiful. You'll have to send me pics.... Our weather is really getting nice....rain rain and then sun..then more rain...but at least no snow!!!! Keep on feeling good Barbara......!! enjoy the pool. I know you are doing a lot of thinking about it. We are having great weather. My pool is up to 80 today, so in I went to swim. It was gloreous. I had to run a lot of errands here and Venice, and I was so hot and tired when I got home. The pool sure refreshed me. I am feeling so much better finally. The increase in my Pred. did the trick for my poor feet. No pain at all yesterday and today. I hope it continues. How are you doing, and how are you feeling? I know it has been a rough year for you without Dave. It is so painful to lose the ones we love. I am still dealing with my divorce, and just waiting for another appt. with the Judge. My legal fees are breaking me!! I am so stressed about that for sure. I hope you are taking it easy. I know I am. Feels good to just be off my feet. How is your weather now? Guest guest
Venice is nice, but I love Englewood best. I didn't care for the Venice beach, but my girlfriend loves it! I guess it is a matter of personal choice. I go to Manasota Key beach, right on the Gulf. It is such a great beach, plus they have shade. The water is the color of Caribbean beaches, and is so warm. This part of Florida is so tropical.  I am glad you are having nice spring weather. My girlfriend just called me from Cape Cod and it is 76 today. A great season on the Cape. She is out flower/plant shopping.  87 here and sunny and breezy. I will go into the pool after lunch. I bet the pool is 80 today.  There are so many house rentals now in nice, new homes for between $700-$900 a month. I am sure you can find just what you want for you and your dog. It will give you a better idea of the area, and if you move here, where you want to live. I do love Naples, but it is very expensive to live there and very congested as well.  I too am happy to be out of all that horrible pain in my feet. Pred. is my miracle drug too. It has given me my life back.  I hope you enjoy this fine day. Take care a, and continue to feel better and better.  Hugs,  Barbara  From: thestitchartist <angela@thestitchar t ist.com> Subject: [ ] Re: Fort Myers, FL @gro ups.com Date: Monday, May 3, 2010, 5:06 PM Hi Barbara. Guest guest
Hey Barbara!! So happy to hear you are feeling better and the prednisone is working for you. I need to be taking it too, but I so dread the side effects. I don't know which is worse - the pain or the weight gain and bloating - I argue with myself all the time about that. I know not everyone reacts in the same way to prednisone. I'm happy it is your miracle drug! I wish they could find something like that for me without all the side effects..... Guest guest
Thanks, Barbara. I've been on the Enbrel for about a year now. Things are better, but I wonder if anything will really ever be like it used to be - I doubt it. I still take the MTX weekly as well - and it still knocks me on my butt for a day or two. But the injections are definitely better than the pills. I've had to go back to a pain management doctor in addition to my Rheumy. MY PC was so limited on how much they were willing to help me and my Rheumy won't prescribe anything for pain. So, I've been upgraded to Oxycodone, Tramadol and Voltaren Gel. BUT I find its still not working well enough. It'll all knock me on my butt, but that doesn't relieve the pain. So, I've cut out the Voltaren Gel for the time being - it really wasn't working any better than Biofreeze anyway. And at night I add 3 Advil to my mix and so far (knock on wood), I am able to sleep all night in relatively little pain. SSD is a total joke at this point and such a disappointment. I've been waiting for over 4 years now. My case is still in VA with the Appeals Council and last I heard, they still hadn't reviewed the case. My attorney said she will be filing a new application soon since my insurability runs out in June. That way if they deny me again, there will already be a new case in the works. But I'll lose all that backpay. It just seems so unfair. But, its in God's hands. He knows our needs and I just pray that a positive outcome will come through soon... I'm glad you're enjoying this weather. Its been in the low 90's here lately and very humid. The two things that make me feel worse - heat and humidity. Oh well, I'll just be staying inside anyway... Please keep us posted on your foot. I know it will be a painful surgery, but at least you'll know it'll be temporary and sometimes the pain from the surgeries are way less painful than the actual problem to begin with. At least that was how it was when I had my shoulder nodules removed. Thanks for inquiring on me, too. Take care... Love & Hugs... Doreen Hi Doreen. Since I began the daily use of Pred. for the last 6+ years I have put on 30 lbs. I just hate it, but I had to decide, be thin, in pain 24/7, or take my daily Pred. and my pain is gone. That is why I chose Pred. I have no sde effects from it. Just the cateract,s from Pred. which was removed 2 years ago. Other then that, it so agree's with me. I wish you could take it successfully without any side effects. I don't think there is anything out there that does what Pred. does. How are you doing with Biologic's? Is you pain level less? Is it agreeing with you? How is your SS case coming along? I am loving this weather now. I feel very good, and still on my increased dose of Pred. My feet are happy too. I am just waiting to get the reports of my MRI and foot x=ray. I can't wait to get this nodule taken out. It is one painful sucker!! Take care, and wishing you better days ahead. I also wish you many pain free days too! Love and hugs my dear friend, Barbara
Guest guest
Hi ladies: I have had alot of experience with Prednisone, solely because all 3 of my kids were asthamtic (and one still is), so when they get attacks its always 5 days of 40-60 mgs to open their airways. But I dont know from long-term constant use. I am on 5 mgs a day, 20 for 4 days in crisis. I did gain weight initially. but now i am evening myself out, since my flu, i lost 30 pounds in one month, so I am trying to use that to my advantage. Do you guys really think that 5 mgs a day, long-term, can have a bad effect on the body? My Rheumy says I just have to keep taking it and my liver checks out fine, so far. pls advise for those of you who have been on it for years, what has it done to you lately?
