Guest guest
I've read a lot on this list (thank you!) about the BBD and many other diets. Does anyone follow the McDougall diet? My husband is going to start following it because he has recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. As he investigated it, we learned that Dr. Swank, of Swank diet for MS fame, was McDougall's mentor. I was told that Swank said that he would have liked to recommend totally cutting out fat, like McDougall does, but he didn't think anyone would go that far, all those years ago. I've also been told by a friend whose husband has MS that Oregon Health State University is doing a controlled study to see if the McDougall diet actually works. He's been following the McDougall diet pretty religiously and he has been getting worse, now being told that he has progessive MS with relapse/remitting features. My friend was diagnosed with RA a little earlier. She followed the McDougall diet less religiously and she's gone into complete remission. I read about the Swank diet over 30 years ago when I was first diagnosed. I've never followed it, but I have always tried to cut back on saturated fat. Coincidentally or not, I have a mild case of relapse/remitting MS. Anyway, I'm very interested in hearing people's opinion of the McDougall or the Swank diets.
