Guest guest
Charlie, Robbie had Methotrexate shot for 2 years... he says the drug itself really stings, more then the Enbrel. Jana

Guest guest
Hi, When Josh gets his MTX shots, he gets them done right into his upper arm. I'm almost sure his is just sub-q. She just pinches the skin on his arm and then sticks the needle in there. Not too far down, though. Just right under the skin. Take care, Georgina ChaosPearl@... wrote: > In a message dated 2/6/00 11:08:47 AM Eastern Standard Time, > _C_S@... writes: > > << The methotrexate shot Elliot receives seems to hurt much more than the > Enbrel shots. Guest guest
Hi Jenni, Both mtx and enbrel are injected subcutaneously. I think that mtx solution is more irritating than the enbrel. Rena
Guest guest
The most common syringe used is an insulin syringe, with a 1/2 " long needle and holds 1cc of fluid total. The common vial is 2cc an contains 50mg of MTX, although I've had 5cc and 10cc vials in the past. One pill is equal to ..1cc of the standard mix, so if you're now taking 5 pills, it would take ..5cc of liquid. It's normally given once a week commonly in an area of tummy or thigh, but the choice is yours. As discussed recently, we can put it just under the skin (Sub-Q) or in the muscle (IM). Side effects are usually greatly reduced or eliminated, but will vary with the person. Folic Acid is not prescribed as a side effect med, but is a replacement for the natural Folate that MTX sloughs out of your body. My suggestion is to try it, it can't be as bad as not taking it at all. lol Dennis in eastexas On Mon, Apr 4, 2011 at 7:54 AM, HLHSINFO@... <hlhsinfo@...>wrote: > > > Help me out please....I had to get off MTX (pill form) because of the side > effects. Guest guest
HI Cheili.  I switched from the MYX pills to the injection 6 years ago. The MTX pills made me so sick to my stomach 24/7 I just could not take that anymore. I take my shot each Thursday night and it is fine. No more nausea etc. I use my thighs, and alternate every other week. It does not hurt and very rarely will there be any blood. I do take Leucovorin 24 hours after I inject my MTX.  My Rheumy wrote me out a RX for the needles, which are very fine and you really do not feel them when you inject.  I wish you good luck. I personally could not stand being so sick after taking the pills. The MTX injections are perfect for me.  Hugs,  Barbara > >
Guest guest
Thank you. Wow that's a lot of fluid. I say that because I already take 8cc by shot and I take forever to push it in. Ha ha ha. I will see what the doc wants to do. I do need more help than what I'm on now so maybe I will have to go back to MTX. This time in a shot form. Guest guest
I was getting sick too. I also got mouth sores really bad. I was up so high on folic acid just to not have them. I feel so much better being off of it. The only down fall is I'm in pain from hips down. Guest guest
I agree with the other posts. I switched because of nausea. Make sure they give you a insulin needle, I was given a 21 gauge needle and it was huge and it hurt every time I injected. I found out that the pharmacy read the prescription wrong and the 29 gauge was what I was supposed to recieve. Other than that it was very easy to give. If you are nervous about what to do, have a nurse show you how. I have a husband who is a nurse and he showed me the proper way to give an injection. After that it was no sweat at all. No side effects and I am feeling much better. BJ
Guest guest
I had to stop the pills, because my stomach was being ripped up from all of my medicines. I take it as a shot. It's not like the kind you do for Enbrel or Humira. I like it better. It doesn't hurt as much, and you can do it as fast or slow as you need. I do 8cc, which is the equivalent to 8 pills. If you take 6 pills, you'd prob. do 6cc. I get a lot less nausea with the shots, but I still get the exhaustion. I take my shot weekly, just like with the pills. It isn't as bad as I thought it would be Missie- PA > > Help me out please....I had to get off MTX (pill form) because of the side effects.
