Guest guest
Hello has anyone heard of this drug study? Ocrelizumab is a human based rituxin. My arthritis is so bad and recently my Humira just quit working after 5 years. Injections are now 1 week apart and 10 mg of prednisone a day and also Arava which is making my hair fall out. Does anyone know about this. Thank you in advance. Sandy
Guest guest
Hi Sandy I don't know anything about this drug but I do know about Arava making your hair fall out! I have stopped taking it for about 2 weeks and am still losing hair. I am taking folate and Calcium Folinate which seem to help as long as I take them at the right time. Calcium Folinate is 8 - 12 hours after mtx which can be forgotten sometimes....:-) Cheryl -- In , " beacon348 " <beacon316@...> wrote: > > Hello has anyone heard of this drug study? Guest guest
Cheryl, If you are off Arava permanently, you can ask your rheumatologist if you can do the elimination (washout) procedure. Arava persists in your body for quite some time without it. ***************************************** Drug Elimination Procedure The following drug elimination procedure is recommended to achieve non-detectable plasma levels (less than 0.02 mg/L or 0.02 µg/mL) after stopping treatment with ARAVA: Administer cholestyramine 8 grams 3 times daily for 11 days. (The 11 days do not need to be consecutive unless there is a need to lower the plasma level rapidly.) Verify plasma levels less than 0.02 mg/L (0.02 µg/mL) by two separate tests at least 14 days apart. If plasma levels are higher than 0.02 mg/L, additional cholestyramine treatment should be considered. Without the drug elimination procedure, it may take up to 2 years to reach plasma M1 metabolite levels less than 0.02 mg/L due to individual variation in drug clearance. http://www.rxlist.com/arava-drug.htm Not an MD On Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 2:33 AM, cheryl.dines <cheryl.dines@...> wrote: > Hi Sandy > > I don't know anything about this drug but I do know about Arava making > your hair fall out! Guest guest
Thanks . Think I am going to have to do it. I am sure I read how horrible the washout is. Guest guest
WOW!! That's a scary thought having Arava in your system for up to 2 YEARS after stopping it. Makes me wonder if other drugs are the same. Doreen > > Cheryl, > > If you are off Arava permanently, you can ask your rheumatologist if > you can do the elimination (washout) procedure. Guest guest
Doreen, No, the other DMARDs do not persist for that length of time. Guest guest
Cheryl, I'm not sure why the cholestyramine washout procedure would be horrible, but you can ask your rheumatologist about it. I don't remember anyone in the group describing the experience. Not an MD On Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 4:29 AM, cheryl.dines <cheryl.dines@...> wrote: > Thanks . Think I am going to have to do it.
