Guest guest
If you can see an ENT on your own, I would -- right away. When this happened to me they found out it was shingles (did a needle biopsy of the " blisters " ). From there I went on an antiviral drug. It may also be an infection of course, which is why they are prescribing antibiotics. The virus of shingles preys on those of us who have screwed up immune systems - there is a lot in the archives about shingles. Infections occur when we take certain medications that lower our immunity so low that we can't fight off the bug. For instance, I have had infected bumps all over my skin and also have had the GI bug C-Dificile - hospital stays for a week each time x 2 times. Both infections were seen as a side effect of being on high dose methotrexate.

Guest guest
Hey I was told to gargle with dried sage in hot water, and it was a miracle! This morning I have no symptoms at all. Or possibly even allergies this time of year. I have had major improvement since getting an infected tooth extracted and treating sinus infection and allergy problems lately. We started with a steroid nasal spray for the sinus thing, septra antibiotic and an OTC decongestant, for a lingering sinus infection, and now I am using the nutribiotic grapefruit seed extract nasal spray. I've not had any chronic sore throats in the past 16 months since stopping mtx . Guest guest
Hi Carol, Yes, I have had swollen glands and a sore throat ever since I first started to flare up over a year ago. It's not that way all the time, but I seem to have what I think of as mini-flares that are ALWAYS accompanied by those symptoms. I drink a lot of water and that seems to help my throat. The swollen glands - well I massage them...not directly on the swelling, but around the area, and that usually helps with the pain in them, and sometimes actually helps them flow and subside. Guest guest
, You might just have a sore throat but you might want to consider another blood test to be on the safe side. I was originally on Tapazole - had an allergic reaction was given PTU (short term for your medication). I was on PTU for over 4 years without any problems. I refused to have RAI - it can only create bigger problems and I eventually went into remission. The doctor reduced my medication very slowly and last year I went off all medication. Have you visited Elaine 's and ithyroid site? There's lots of good info there, especially about taking vitamins and the best foods for thyroid disease. Do you have any eye involvement? TED is short for thyroid eye disease, TAP is for the other medication. If you have questions about the acronym please let everyone know !! Take care and keep in touch! I get some ginger root from the store, cut a piece off, peel the skin off and cut the piece in two (about the size of a thumbnail). I take one piece and put it in my back molars, tilt my head back and crunch down. Let it drain down your throat as long as you can. It will sting a bit. I then spit out the fiber in tissue. I do the same thing on the other side. I used to always get strep throat when I was young and then someone told me about this and I have never gotten strep again. Try not to rinse out your mouth and it will then numb the pain and it will heal it. I don't know how it works but It definitely works for me. If this sounds too extreme maybe drink ginger tea. Guest guest
Last year, and earlier this year, before I realized that I had candida, I often woke up with an extremely dry sore throat and dry eyes. Sometimes my eyes were so dry and gummy that my eyelids stuck together. Since I've been on antifungal medication, this happens less often and less severe when it does. I'm not sure why it's worse at night, but it definitely is. I also get thrush (on the tongue) and sores at the corners of the mouth, occasionally. I think it's all related to the candida. sunfiche
Guest guest
Thank you so much sunfiche for responding. May I ask what other symptoms you have (or had) of Candida? I started taking yogurt three times a day which eased the bowel problems, and the only other symptoms I've got is a sore throat, fatigue, some small rashes (which may all be in my head) and occasional ear-aches. So I'm not sure if Candida is my problem, even though all this began with a full-blown yeast infection in my groin after having taken some antiobiotics for only 3 weeks! Thanks again
Guest guest
Yes, I have had numerous other symptoms, including eczema, sinusitis, fatigue, insomnia, nightmares, depression (in my case, this was aggravated by taking wormwood at a time before I realized I had candida), constipation, etc. My bowel problems eased after I began taking Diflucan, and at the same time my sinuses began to drain. Up to that point, I wasn't sure what I had, but the symptoms were consistent with candida and the antifungals gave some relief. The more I read about it, the more I became convinced that I was suffering from candida. For example, other members have reported having hallucinatory-type nightmares, long strings in the stool, and mucus in the stool (grayish slime). From what I understand, there is no definitive diagnostic test for candida, because it is naturally present in most of us to some extent. The problems start when it grows out of control. However, since I have only been aware of candida for a couple months, I don't feel that I'm much of an expert on the subject. By all means, continue to read these postings and communicate with others! I can say that my program of Diflucan, Nystatin, and diet has helped, although progress is gradual and with MANY SETBACKS! I think it was who said that it is a process of two steps forward, one step back. I couldn't agree more. By the way, I haven't tried most of the supplements being discussed here, so I can't speak to their effectiveness. The only supplements I'm taking right now are lactobacillus, Creon (digestive enzymes by prescription), and coral calcium. Best of luck to you! sunfiche
Guest guest
For candida to appear in the mouth or throat, there must be something there to feed it. Sugar or starch must be getting in your mouth somehow You can swish with inulin to encourage different bacteria, which will outcompete the candida. Guest guest
I don't know if they can be fungally related. From a scientific point of view I would say no. However they are probably indirectly related to candidiasis. Systemic candida can lead to all kinds of allergy related problems (including sore throats as a result of dust allergy for example). A low immunity is also linked to people suffering from candidiasis. Therefore leaving the body more prone to catching mild viruses. As we all know the first sign of going down with something is a sore throat, so regular sore throats can be a sign that our body is fighting off low level viruses.
