Every time I have a question I come here. So here is my little history since the last time I posted. I've been on mtx for some 8 months or so. It helps some but not completely. So I went on Simponi but that did nothing for me. Was switched to Enbrel. This was my 7th injection, almost 2months. I didn't feel much different. I still had pain and some swelling. Now, this week I have felt what I think is a flare. I am so swollen and in lots of pain. The swelling lasts all day long. I can be sitting down and feel the pains in my joints calling to me. I haven't felt this bad in a while. I feel so swollen that my clothes are tight. My feet are swollen so it hurts to wear my shoes. I've also been on Tylenol Sinus for my sinus headaches. Went to the dentist and they did one of those xrays that go around your whole head and she said my sinus on the right side was very dark meaning I should be having sinus problems. Which I've been on Tylenol Sinus everyday like candy. My questions are: Isn't mtx supposed to reduce swelling? What about Enbrel? I've read on here that some of you feel a huge difference after the first week of Enbrel and I'm on week 7 and feel worse now than before. Any ideas? I'll be calling my rheummy in the morning and see what to do but would like any ideas you all can share before I talk to him. Guest guest
Hi Maty - The one thing I learned about this horrid disease is that no two people are alike. I didn't get relief right away with Enbrel either - it took me almost 3 months and it still hasn't been a HUGE success, but I have gotten relief. Are you still taking the MTX? Injections or pills? I've had better luck with the injections and its easier on my stomach - although I've been in a flare lately (it happens even on the Biologics) and have been eating too many Advil for the inflammation and now I've been up since 2am with sharp stomach pains that I hope and pray will calm down. What I should have done was take the prednisone that my Rheumy prescribed for just this kind of thing. Five days on and then stop. I pray your Rheumy will give you something like that to help. As for your sinuses, it sounds like you have a sinus infection - you should get that checked out by your PC. Unfortunately, these medicines designed to ease the RA symptoms and damage can leave us open to infection. Keep us posted. We care..... Doreen I've been getting a lot out of everyone's posts. Guest guest
I'm on mtx pills. It does nothing to my stomach and has really done nothing for me either. I've been on it for months and I really don't feel any difference. Enbrel did nothing for me either. I was on my 7th injection with Enbrel. So I guess you can get a flare even though you are on these drugs? Did I get that right? For the moment, I am off of everything right now. I have a sinus infection and on antibiotics and other things (steriods) so I'll be off for at least a month. Guest guest
I have heard from others that it took from a day to a month but I'm going on two months with no change. Well that is a change...I'm in a bad, tiring, painful flare. Hoping to find something to work for me soon. Guest guest
Talk to your Rheumy. Different meds work for different people. I tried Humira for 3 months. A lot of people have talked about great results with Humira and how it gave them their life back. It did absolutely nothing for me. Remicade gave me bad allergic reactions. So now my Rheumy has just started me on Enbrel. There are lots of options out there now, so talk to your Rheumy and try something different. > > I've been getting a lot out of everyone's posts.
