I don't know about the injection of MTX - I know with Humira as well as Enbrel,

they usually have you wait. BUT those are different drugs.  However, I just went

thru the same ICK & I went to my primary doc - my ICK had developed into

bronchitis - - however -- and this helped bigtime - I was instructed to take

musinex - green label - although the pharmacist told me CVS brand was the same

but cheaper. That and sudafed - the plain red tablets. Now, mine had turned into

a secondary infection so I was also on antibiotics but I am telling you - the

combo of the OTC drugs was amazing!

Hope this helps - and I hope you feel better soon.

My darling children gave me a lovely summer cold that I've had for just over

a week now - ugh. They all got over it after just a day or two, but so far,

I can't shake it. Lots of congestion (mostly head, some chest), dry cough,

and now an earache (both ears). Tonight is supposed to be my MTX injection

night. Would you inject? I'm not sure I could get an answer back from my

rheumy before tonight. Actually, not even sure if this is a question for

rheumy or primary doc?

Thanks for any insight!

Ronda,

I would hold off on the mtx tonight. If your not feeling better, make

an appointment to see the gp doctor. You can't mess around with a cold

or flu, while on this medication.

Feel better soon,

Tawny

This is good information. I think everyone knows that many of our drugs do lower

the immunity system so we have to take precautions when necessary. I have taken

Musinex due to bronchitis. The only thing I could add is to stay hydrated as it

tends to dry you out.

Thanks for advice on the mucinex - I picked some up and took it about an

hour ago. Actually can already feel some difference in the chest

tightness. Maybe I will be able to sleep. I tried to get ahold of rheumy,

but she's out until Monday. Called nurse in GP's office and she said it

would be ok to inject MTX - not feeling entirely comfy with that advice

though. I may just put it off until tomorrow night and see if I feel

better. Thanks again to , Tawny and Stan for the quick answers!

Ronda,

Tawny is right. I didn't stop any of my meds thinking it was just allergies like

every year. Gosh when I went into the hospital this last time part of the reason

I was not breathing was because my lungs were full of pneumonia. I was not

fighting it off because my resistance was so low still from the Humira, MTX,

lyrica, and Oxycontin. You need to inform your primary physician or rheumy

every time you get an infection as our medications make it harder to fight them

off.

Hi Ronda - sorry you are feeling so bad. Personally, I would not take the MTX

and I would also make an appointment with your PC. With RA, our immune systems

are so out of whack that a cold can easily go into an upper respiratory

infection. You might just need antibiotics. This would definitely be a question

for both - your Rheumy to confirm that you should hold off on the MTX and your

PC to the care you need to shake this.

Praying you feel better soon. Keep us posted - we care.....Doreen :)

I was told my a Rheumatologist to skip the MTX injection for a wek if you have a

cold and want to take medication for it. I have skipped for one week to see how

I felt and for me, the consequences were not too severe. Hope this helps.

I've been taking MTX for about 20 years and have never been told not to take

it. Maybe it's 'Doctor's Choice'?

My daughter started MTX injections this week and was told any signs of fever and

infection it is best to skip MTX for a few days as it increases your risk for

infection.
