I'm not sure I could drink warm water with honey and cinnamon but worth a try. Guest guest
Gee, I've consumed cinnamon and honey for years. I have some every day in a fresh fruit smoothie for breakfast and later in the day on a chopped fresh fruit mixture. Not because I'm trying to cure anything with it, but simply because I enjoy the taste. I use raw honey and organic " Saigon " cinnamon. According to this post, I should be among the healthiest persons on the planet. So why did I suddenly get RA a few months ago??? I hate to rain on the " positivity, " but I suspect these " cures " are mostly old wives' tales. In fact, this article suggests cinnamon is not a healthful food: http://www.raw-food-health.net/Raw-Cinnamon.html Jan On Mar 30, 2011, at 9:50 AM, OKD wrote: > Hi Group: > > A little positivity: > > OKD > > > Subject: cinnamon and honey cure
Guest guest
Jan: Did you consume the honey and cinammon in the quantitites described? A few sprinkles on fruit is a far cry from 1tsp of cinammon and 2 tsp of honey as well, but whatever. PS - Old " wives-tales " more often than not, are not always tales, they are the basis for many cures of different ailments, today I guess you would call it alternative medicine - L0L:)) Also, well, one man's treasure is another's junk and vice-versa. I too have RA, but these remedies DO work for my asthma, colds and I am trying it for the RA to see what happens. Anything that keeps this monster at bay is cool with me..,. Guest guest
Hi OKD - Thanks for the info!! You are absolutely right, we can use the positivity!!! Here's something interesting - I started eating " drunken " raisins. They are organic golden raisins soaked in gin with cinnamon and honey. Guess what?? It has helped me to some extent, and I know this because it is the only change I made in 2 months! No, it's not a cure, but anything that helps someone is definitely worth it! I am starting to believe in these old wives tales I tell ya!! Guest guest
I don't like gin at all. Does it taste like gin? I watched Dr. Oz and he suggested it. Guest guest
I made some with just gin, and oh yeah they were pretty strong. My Aunt sent me some with honey and cinnamon, and they only had a very mild gin taste because of the honey and cinnamon! Donna, Colorado > > I don't like gin at all. Does it taste like gin? Guest guest
My boss and I tried the raisin and gin thing several years back, he was in his 80's and I was late 40's. We came to the conclusion that we should have gotten a bottle of tonic water and some limes. ) Of course, we had been known to knock back a few brews together after work, he was a WWII glider pilot and could tell some stories! that being said, however, whatever works to relieve your pain, I say go for it! I take cinnamon pills for lowering my blood sugar. Like my son in law says, if nothing else, you have very nice smelling burps. Guest guest
Awesome I heard about the drunken raisins too, now i am motivated to try them too. Funny, when I was a child I had chicken pox. In my family they soaked raisins in warm milk and gave them to us, it supposedly brought all all the pox at one time instead of them slowly coming out. Where there is smoke, there is fire, so we may be onto something, something in the chemical makeup of the grape/raisin in a tincture (gin) and cured with honey and cinammon, anti-inflammatory properties, and then there would be a difference when combined with the milk. I wonder if the " fat " fo the milk activates something too?. Oh well, probably putting too much thought into it, I'll be 'NIKE' and just do it - L0L:)) OKD
Guest guest
OKD, since I wasn't taking cinnamon and honey for any particular ailments, I have never measured the quantity. But I can tell you that a while ago, I was putting cinnamon on almost everything I ate every day - including oatmeal, toast, grapefruit, bananas, and a honey/cinnamon dip for carrots and celery; even put it in coffee. So I would guess I came close to a tsp of cinnamon and 2 tsp of honey daily. It wasn't until recently, when I came across the article I cited to you in my post about the unhealthful aspect of cinnamon, that I cut back the amount I used to just my breakfast fruit smoothie and evening fruit mixture. Actually in looking at the list of ailments cured by cinnamon/honey, the only one I have is arthritis. So maybe it does work after all. LOL. FWIW, Snopes has an article on cinnamon/honey cures. Here's an excerpt with a link to the full article: " Origins: This item extolling the medicinal virtues of honey and cinnamon is based upon a 17 January 1995 article that appeared in the Weekly World News, the erstwhile supermarket tabloid known for publishing the fantastically fictional (it has since transitioned to an online medium), so as a piece of medical literature it should be taken with many grains of salt. That said, we note that honey and cinnamon (individually and together) have long been touted in folklore and traditional medicine as possessing significant nutritional and health benefits, but how much those supposed benefits have been borne out by modern scientific studies varies quite widely. Guest guest
Cinnamon is commonly used for high blood sugar as well. I've been taking cinnamon caps for about 2 years. Amy ________________________________ From: OKD <Cofade_2000@...> Sent: Wed, March 30, 2011 9:50:13 AM Subject: [ ] Cinammon and Honey Cures  Hi Group: A little positivity: OKD Subject: cinnamon and honey cure Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do what some call turning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey.. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what I rather call " crystallizing " . When this happens I loosen the lid, boil some water, and sit the honey container in the hot water, turn off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey. Cinnamon and Honey Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on Honey and Cinnamon: It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases. Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17 January,1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists: HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins. ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol. FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week. BAD BREATH: People of South America , first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day. HEARING LOSS: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing. Remember when we were kids? We had toast with real butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it! FROM ORIENTAL MEDICINE: In Chinese medicine these two are in many, many formulas. In fact, most of you who have taken the pills might not know it from the taste but they are held together with honey. Honey, feng mi in Chinese, has five main functions in Chinese medicine. The first is to notify the middle jiao and relieve pain. This means that it improves digestion, improves appetite, relieves pain (it is often given to children [not infants] for this reason) and improves energy. Unlike sugar, the energy is longer lasting because it is a complex chain sugar and the body takes a while to digest it. The next function is to moisten the lungs to stop a cough. In China, this is often used for chronic cough and is used when there is blood streaked sputum. The next one is to lubricate the bowels to relieve constipation. It is important that the reason this is given is because the person is too dry and lacks fluids. It will cause problems if the reason it too much energy that is stagnating. Honey also eliminates toxins. The toxins in this case are heat toxins at the skin or the ingestion of poisonous substances. It is also combined with Isatidis leaves for mouth ulcers. Lastly it is used in the preparation of herbs. It is a good binder, improves patient compliance (due to improved flavor) and its stickiness makes it good for making pills. Cinnamon is also used in Chinese medicine extensively. They split it into twigs and bark – each of which have different functions. The twigs (gui zhi) also have five functions: release the exterior through sweating; warms and opens the channels; warms yang to eliminate water or phlegm stagnation; warms the yang in the chest; and warms yang in the chong (the sea of blood) and ren (conception) channels. As you can see it has a lot of warming functions. It is more warm than honey but less warm than the bark. It is used to create a sweat to get rid of a cold when you are not sweating. If you are sweating, you wouldn't want to use this. Gui zhi warms the collaterals and main channels and relieves pain. For those with pain who are cold to the touch and have subjective cold, this is a good herb to make as a tea. It also acts as a guiding herb. This means that it is used in formulas which treat pain as it helps the other pain relieving herbs address the surface of the body where much of the stagnation is causing pain. As you might have noticed it also warms the yang in the sea of blood and the conception channel. For women with irregular menstruation, dysmenorhea, amenorrhea, or other gynecological disorders where cold is a chief symptom will be given this along with other warming and blood moving or blood building herbs and it can be used in combination for women with blood stagnation masses in the lower uterus. Rou Gui – or cinnamon bark – is a very hot, sweet, and acrid herb. It tonifies the kidney yang and augments the ming men (life gate) fire. This is a very hot herb and can rekindle the kidneys when they stop having the warm component. Rou gui dispels cold, warms the spleen and relieves pain (see a theme here?). It is used for abdominal coldness and pain with vomiting and/or diarrhea – particularly if it is chronic. It also dispels cold, relieves pain, opens the channels and vessels. Lastly it encourages the production of qi and blood when used in a small quantity. It should be noted that most Chinese doctors feel that the cinnamon that we have here in the US is inferior coming from the cassia tree rather than a true cinnamon. If you get a chance to bake with real cinnamon, you will be amazed at the difference (use half or less than your recipe calls for.)
Guest guest
Amy, have you noticed any improvement in your BG's since you've been taking the cinnamon? I took some for a while, but it didn't seem to make any difference. Since I have to take so many pills, anyway, I eliminated that one.
