Yes, I agree with you, but I NEVER had stomach problems or pain of any kind

until a couple years before I was diagosed (via upper endoscopy) with an

ulcer. Perhaps others have but I have not. Blessed in that way, and also I

could count on one hand the headaches I have had in my life. Now tho the RA

is making up for all the pain I have missed. LOL

Hi Carol and group:

My Dr. gives me Zantac along with Cytotec. The Cytotec thickens the

mucous in the stomach so that the anti-inflam meds don't hurt you. I

have tried to go off it several times (due to cost factor) but always

went back on because it helps so much. The Cytotec has been out for

many years and if I remember correctly, its original purpose was for

people taking anti-inflam meds.

Hi Patti,

Janene has had finger ulcers and uses Duoderm (made by Convatec),

available in pharmacies. It's a second skin which protects the ulcer

and helps it with " moist healing " . You can read about it on their

website at www.convatec.com - Dr. Joe Mercola told us about it.

If you get some, wash your toe, cut a piece of Duoderm to fit over the

ulcer and put it on. You leave the Duoderm on for a week - it's

waterproof so you can shower with it on. You'll see debris building up

under the Duoderm which is the ulcer healing. After a week you take it

off and put on a new piece for the following week. It's really good

stuff.

Hello Group,

I have just come across this old post which I can relate to. I have such

painful ulcerations along with the Systemic Lupus that i suffer from. They heal

over with painful redness on top that hurts with the slightest touch. I have

been using the duoderm for about a year now on my feet palms of my hands

anywhere that an ulceration pops out.IT WORKS!~! I also cut them to the desired

size an find that overnight it builds up a liquid that is poision that can be

squoze out the sides wiped away with a tissue without taking the bandage off.

That makes them last longer less time consuming to keep putting them back on

again.Since they are very expensive for a box of ten ($50) which my medicare

pays all but ten dollars of. I will sign off for now my fingers are very

stiffened up from the typing.I hope to start the protocol sometime soon for the

prednsione I take is way to much. The doc wants me to go to MXT shots now.I will

answer any questions so email me anytime. In good health ;(lakesidetwo in

Cindi, perhaps your general practitioner doctor could take a specimen from these ulcers. I would hazard a guess they may be from a fungus infection or a virus. I don't know if you can get Nizeral Oral gel from your pharmacy but that may help and it would also show it to be a fungus. When one is not eating properly your immunity could become a bit low and that is when these fungi and viruses strike. I have found that taking a kiddies vitamin and mineral syrup helped me with fungal infections in my mouth because it boosted my immunity a bit.

Acid could cause ulcers in your lover oesophagus but hardly likely higher up in your mouth. Once the doctor knows what they are he can prescribe medication for them that will clear them up in no time, but you must then keep your immunity up to prevent them coming back. They are so darn painful and just add to ones misery!

I would be very interested to know if the decaying food causes ulcers. I have had ulcers in my E and chronically in my mouth (tongue, gums and sides of mouth....everywhere). Could it be from acid? Cindi in PA

It is unlikely that acid is the problem, because you would not have much

acid in your mouth, and saliva is a mild antacid. It can be from the food

in the esophagus. Food can carry germs, raw vegetables can have a lot of

things on and in them. Normally it would not matter for a lot of it,

because it would just go to the stomach where most germs would be killed by

acid before they could multiply and be a problem. And most germs left in

the esophagus would be washed in to the stomach by saliva. If the food gets

stuck in the esophagus the germs have a nice moist, dark, warm home to

breed in the food. However, ulcers in the mouth and esophagus do not seem

to be a common problem for people in this group.

I go tomorrow to have my stomach scoped for suspected ulcers. Has anyone

developed ulcers after getting the band? If so, what was the impact on the band.

I have had to take massive doses of pain and anti-inflammatory meds this year

due to a back problem. I will probably have to continue these kinds of

medicines. Ruth

Can't help with whether kombucha helps, but freshly " squeezed " cabbage juice

is supposed to cure them, BUT cabbage juice has to be mixed with other fresh

juices because its pretty fierce tasting.

Try changing toothbrushes, and using bacteriocidal mouthwash (like Listerine) if

they are willing. Change toothbrush while healing, then again when they are

gone. That should help!

My boys are constantly getting ulcers on their tongues, gums, lips, and throat.

Right now n has at least two nasty ones on the tip of his tongue and a

to get rid of them, what is causing them? I get one in my mouth and I am

Toni,

People with Sjogren's Syndrome (an autoimmune disease that I have)

get mouth sores a lot, so I checked the archives of a listserv that

I'm on. Lots of people swear by triamcinolone (brand name...kenalog

in orabase). It's a prescription product, and most doctors don't know

that it is helpful with mouth sores. You have to tell them.

I used to get them terribly when I was little. I was hospitalized at least

twice for them that I can remember and I still get them now and then. My

niece went through the same thing and still gets them now, too. No one has

been able to find the cause but we were both told to make sure we were

brushing our teeth and tongues regularly and thoroughly. We went through a

lot of Ambesol and children's liquid Tylenol. If you hold the Tylenol in

your mouth where the sores are it numbs them. It also works great with tooth

aches.

Some of mine were caused from me chewing on the inside of my mouth. (A

reflection of the anxiety we didn't know I had at the time)

I wish I could be more help, but the Ambesol and Tylenol do work to at least

temporarily numb the pain.

My son gets these every so often. Sometimes from picking at his gums,

sometimes from chewing on his cheeks and lips and who knows what else, but

we have used a Peroxyl Rinse twice a day when he gets them and it does help.

Colgate makes one and there are also the generic store brands that work well

too. I buy it by the flavor I think he will use. He would swish for 30 to 45

seconds and then spit it out after brushing his teeth.

My son has those too.. Chronic they are!! I believe it might be a

combination of his oral fixation and chewing on his dirty fingers.. And of

course poor brushing techniques.. Along with an allergy.

I use.. Biotine.. Its a mouth wash.. And it doesn't burn.. It seems to

lessen the time they are around.. Poor babies.. They really do suffer some

times don't they.

Hi Toni,

Toothpaste with SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) can cause this for some

people. Might check your toothpaste and if it has this, try

switching and see if there's an improvement in how often they get

them. Here's one short thing I googled:

http://ddschan.com/TheLibrary/SodiumLaurylSulfate.htm

I've read many times that Licorice root is good for this. A quick

google and here's a bit of an excerpt on it:

" Probably the most outstanding herbal remedy for mouth sores is

licorice root, a potent anti-inflammatory and tissue healer. Put a

pinch of powder on the sore, or suck on a lozenge made from DGL (de-

glycyrrhizinated licorice). "

You might ask at a local herbal/vitamin place about licorice root.

But it can raise blood pressure in people so you don't " overdo " on

licorice.

Also, I think Milk of Magnesia helps. I imagine you swish with it.

(OK, I have some of this info saved because I have periodontal

problems and run across interesting stuff in my online searches)

Hope something helps.
