Guest guest
Boy oh Boy, Sanford, Have you ever come to the right person. I've been " poking " myself with Enbrel for just over a year. As a matter of fact, the Enbrel company just sent me " glad you are with us " kind of card the other day thanking me for using it for a year now. Strange but nice. It took me six visits to my doctor's nurse before I could do the injection by myself and almost a year for my hands to stop shaking. I practically faint at needles so it was VERY hard for me to inject into myself. I, too, inject in the tummy. The nurse said to do an " X " . i.e.....upper left of my belly button on Monday..... upper right on Thursday.....lower left on Monday and lower right on Thursday. I used to get those tummy bruises also and I don't know if it was because of my jabbing it in too hard. It usually took me two or three jabs before it penetrated. My tummy looked like a snake had bitten me...... ( It would take me ages to prepare the syringe also. Thirteen steps??????? I'd do them to perfection and the part where it says it shouldn't take long for the liquid to mix with the powder wasn't true. Sometimes I'd sit there twirling and twisting as I would get lumps that wouldn't dissolve. Do you? I still do to this day. I tried mixing with the cold liquid or letting it warm up and it made no difference. I was told to aim at a 45 degree angle and that's what I do. I haven't taken Enbrel for almost a month (tomorrow will be a month) because of surgery. I went to the lab today just to see what all my " vitals " are and how much the Enbrel is helping me compared to being off of it for a month. It should prove to be interesting. I am also taking MTX along with it in pill form. I'd really like to quit that. I'm hoping my Rheumatologist will let me. Do you take that? I think that if the company ever makes smaller needles, they will lessen the bruising. And......why can't the stuff come premixed? What a hassle doing that! I wish I could give you a magic way to inject without bruising but it really is a hit and miss for me. I take a piece of tissue after I inject and press it hard again the site and sometimes, I think, that helps. Who knows?????? ) Let me know if you find the secret to no bruising. xxoo Mi. Guest guest
Hi Caroline, I did not know that the hole in the needle needed to be up. It will be from now on... ) Also didn't know not to inject closer than one inch of your belly button......I don't think I ever do. And....I didn't know you should let the alcohol wipe dry on your skin before you inject. Gosh! I almost can't wait until I go on the Enbrel injections again to try all these things. Yeah....like I really mean that.....) Thanks for all those handy instructions. xxoo Mi. Carmen

Guest guest
Wish I could give you an intelligent answer but I don't have any experience with enbrel. There were some people that subscribed here that did take it but I don't know if they're still members. Guest guest
Hi rann I've been on enbrel a few months now, have not had any stomach side effects at all. Are you taking any other medication in addition to the enbrel? When you say stomach cramps, are you talking high up like where the stomach is, or lower down where the intestines are? Abdominal pain has been reported as an uncommon side effect - if it is bothersome enough ask your doctor to re-read the prescription info and change you to something else. I bruise around 25% of the time, probably a small blood vessel I nick with the needle. Applying light pressure with a dry tissue or napkin for 5-10 minutes decreases the bruising. Good luck! - > > I have a question regarding the enbrel injection..I would like to know > if there are any other people in the group that are taking this and if > they know if the injection site is suppose to bruise all the time. Guest guest
I do use enbrel and I have probably bruised twice in the two years I have used it. Are you using the 25mg or pre-mixed 50mg? Do you normally bruise easily? Do you bruise when you inject in your legs or is it only your belly? Do you bruise bilaterally on you abdomen or is it just on one particular side? Guest guest
I took Enbrel for 5 years and rarely bruised. You are not supposed to put the needle into a vein, just fatty tissue. Also be sure you are injecting the needle at a 45 degree angle (check the pamphlet to be sure on this). It never affected my stomach. That doesn't mean it isn't affecting yours. Good luck with that. Guest guest
I know many doctors are using embrel with many patients and do not seem at all worried about side effects. I have seen some major problems with this drug and would tell anyone on it to be especially careful. I do not want to panic you, but some doctors brush off the side effects to the patients disadvantage. If you are unsure or unhappy, other opinions are always an option. I would certainly talk with your pharmacist about this. Just my opinion ....Martha
Guest guest
, I am on Enbrel 25mg 2 times a week. I am on the kind where you mix it up and then inject. The needle is very small and fairly painless. I have had the prefilled syringes and the needles are much bigger and hurt more. I am also a nurse and just above the knee doesn't sound good. You want to inject more in the thigh area. A good measure is to place the width of your hand above the knee and the width of your other hand at the groin. The area inbetween your hands is appropriate area to be injecting. Terri
