Guest guest
I heard today that UCLA doctors have found that a low-carb, high protein diet causes dementia, is this true? If so, I'd still rather be thin and crazy than in my current state. Anyway, I wonder if there is a way to combat this problem. Guest guest
Dorian, I can relate a personal experience. In the 70's I tried the Dr. Atkins Diet, you know the one that lets you eat fat and protein, but no carbs. Your body goes into acidosis (not sure of the spelling) and your breath smells bad. I loved that diet! I was stuffing myself with ordinarily " forbidden foods " and losing weight. One day after 3 or 4 weeks on the diet, while driving home, I suddenly couldn't remember where I lived. I went to my old apartment and surprised the new tenants. I knew my name but could remember little else. I finally made it home. I started eating normally and never again went on the Atkins diet. My dementia went away very quickly although I did stay home for a couple of days. I would think that if you ate even a few carbs it would prevent the chemical imbalance in your body that may cause dementia. > I heard today that UCLA doctors have found that a low-carb, high > protein diet causes dementia, is this true? Guest guest
Geez! Is that scary or what?! Okay, once I'm post-op, I'm still gonna eat a few carbs. I know that protein is the most important thing to get in, but I still want a balanced diet. Glad to hear you're back to normal. I too, went on a diet in the 80's (Lindora, now Lean for Life in Calif.) that was based on protein, some fruits and certain veggie's and lost 65 pounds. It also put one into Ketosis and the weight just melted off. I also had to have a daily injection of some hormone that is found in pregnant women's urine. The Gov. finally put a stop to the injections because they said that it was causing pancreatic cancer. Once off the injections, the diet just didn't seem to work as well.
