Guest guest
I still find myself with this mentality. I have been compulsively eating for quite some time now, and came across Intuitive Eating and thought it was the greatest thing ever. I did it for about a week and felt totally free and absolutely wonderful. However, I quickly started to eat all day even when not hungry again. I guess I've made peace with food very well, but I still can't seem to get the only when hungry and stop when full part down. I keep going back to the same old " I'll start over tomorrow " , and every day turns into a " Last Supper " . How did you guy move past this?? Guest guest
Hi, One of the things I've been finding helpfull is just to keep in mind, how programmed I've become to thinking with a diet mentality. I know I have to reject those ideas when they pop into my head. We can't expect to reverse years of conditioning over night, so this might take some time. If you have the book " Intuitive Eating " by Tribole and Resch, there are some good sugeestions on page 254. Arnie > > I still find myself with this mentality. Guest guest
What 'last supper eating' means to me is a wake up call that I feel either untrustworthy or undeserving. The more I eat the more this seems to get reinforced and it can and build into a binge. Awareness is the first step - 'Oh my, I'm EATING and eating and I know I'm NOT hungry! What am I doing?!? " But instead of beating one's self up, if you can just say instead - " I must be comforting myself somehow. What is making me feel so bad? Am I unhappy?, angry?, lonely? etc. " This can help you to distance the act (eating) from the negative reactions to it that are driving you further into the downward spiral of guilt and shame. Grab a hold of whatever you can to STOP the pattern and pat yourself on your back. You can, and will do it Ehugs, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I still find myself with this mentality. Guest guest
I have had this problem too, I keep water by. That way when I go to get something to eat, I drink about an ounce or two of water and if I am still wanting to eat, I make myself think about wether or not I am really hungry, if I dont believe that I am, I try and find something to do with myself. -- tomorrow... Guest guest
I don't think anyone ever perfects this process, at least I haven't and I have been working at it for about 8 years. I thinkg what helps is is to be kind to yourself when you go off track, and to gently guide yourself back to eating intuitively. This will get easier with time. It is almost as if you need to prove to yourself that you really never will diet again. I hopes that helps. > > I still find myself with this mentality.
