Guest guest
The last 2 weeks I have had similar pain and it is worse after I cough. My PCP told me it could be soreness associated with so much coughing. I had the x-rays and they showed no pneumonia or bronchitis. I have a sinus infection and ear infection taking antibiotic with antibiotic nose spray. At night the rib pain is worse so I sleep in my lift chair. I am not suppose to take the methotrexate injections when I am sick and forgot last week and seemed as though symptoms got worse, but the pain can be unbearable when I cough due mainly from dry mouth. I hope you feel better. I am taking things easy today. It is 29 degrees out and I am definitely staying in. Irish
Guest guest
I do not know if this is applicable. But it is my experience. I had a horrid cough for a few weeks and pulled muscles from coughing. By Dr gave me a bronchial in haler and I felt much better. Raniolo From: Toz <keptoz@...> Subject: [ ] Rib cage pain? Date: Sunday, February 7, 2010, 10:31 AM Â Hi all, I have been dealing with RA for over 2 years now & have never had pain like this before. I've been sick with a cold since New Year's Eve - turned into viral bronchitis & then a sinus infection. I've been coughing like crazy although its gotten better in the last day or two with antibiotics. About 5 days ago I started having the worst pain in my rib cage - it came on suddenly - no breathing issues, just pain. My dr was worried about pneumonia & sent me for a chest xray. It came back clear, but the pain has not let up. It is constant, but moves around (if that makes sense) sometimes on the right, left, front or around back - & many times in multiple locations. Every time I feel a cough coming on I just cry it hurts so much. Sometimes it helps for me to bend forward to cough. Its impossible to get any good sleep. I'm guessing the xray would have picked up broken ribs - honestly that's what it feels like. I've called both my gp & rheumy, but they don't seem to be taking it as serious as I feel. They seem to think its just from coughing, but I've had bronchitis several times before & never felt like this before. I'm going to try some prednisone to see if things will calm down. It's really unbearable!! ! Do you think this is an RA flare? I've had plenty in the past, but never in my ribs. Thanks,
Guest guest
Try looking at this for an idea costochondritis (It's a thought) http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/costochondritis/DS00626/DSECTION=symptoms Annette On Sun, Feb 7, 2010 at 10:31 AM, Toz <keptoz@...> wrote: > Hi all, > > I have been dealing with RA for over 2 years now & have never had pain like > this before. > > I've been sick with a cold since New Year's Eve - turned into viral > bronchitis & then a sinus infection. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your replies - I looked up costochondritis & I do think this is the culprit. I have an appointment with my rheumy on wed & will ask about it. I guess it just goes away on its own - hopefully sooner rather than later. My coughing has really gotten better today, so I'm hoping that will make a big difference. I did take some prednisone today & that with tylenol has helped some. I will do the same tomorrow. Unfortunately, I cannot take any NSAIDS. They just rip my stomach apart. Everyday is an adventure right? Thanks again for all the support. > > Hi all, > > I have been dealing with RA for over 2 years now & have never had pain like this before. > > I've been sick with a cold since New Year's Eve - turned into viral bronchitis & then a sinus infection. Guest guest
If you can not take ,be very.very wary of predmisone. Discuss this with Dr " s nurse in morning. I wish you pain free days but be wary of thr price. Raniolo From: Toz <keptoz@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Rib cage pain? Guest guest
Hi I had pleurisy last year and was already suffering from Costo - it's very painful coughing!! If it's the coughing that's causing the most pain, are you able to take codeine safely? You can buy it over the counter or your Doc/Rheumy can prescribe a higher dose of 30mg Codeine + 500mg of paracetamol or sometimes available with Asprin or similar. The over the counters range from 10-12.5mg of codeine with the same amount of paracetamol. The codeine will work in two ways. It reduces the coughing (relaxant) and is an analgesic to kill the pain. Just beware of long term use though. Hope you feel better soon. > > Hi all, > > I have been dealing with RA for over 2 years now & have never had pain like this before. > > I've been sick with a cold since New Year's Eve - turned into viral bronchitis & then a sinus infection.
