Guest guest
Hi PJ.  I have Neuropathy very bad in both feet and ankles. My foot surgeon did a nerve test to confrim that is what I have. He also did a blood test to see if I was deficient in B12 vitamin. I was just below the normal low, so he suggested I take the B 12. It has been over 6 weeks now and my feet and ankles are perfect. No pain, tingling etc. I could not belive the results. I bought the B12 pills in the Health Food store. He had me get the ones that desolve under my tongue. It is very tiny, desolves very quickly and has no taste at all, and gets into my system right away. I have suffered with these feet since the day I got RA. I was struck there the worst. This little pill is so amazing.  If your Dr. thinks it is alright for you to try, I hope it works as well for you.  Hugs,  Barbara From: Patti Yuswak <WhtBC10@...> Subject: [ ] OTC Pain Meds Date: Friday, November 26, 2010, 9:40 AM  Hi, My Dr took me permanently off Leflunomide because it was causing a worsening of my peripheral neuropathy, my insurance company is refusing to cover Enbrel because it is for a pre-existing condition (I was laid off and had to get my own insurance which went into effect on Oct 1st) so right now I'm having a lot of joint pain along with the tingling/numbness/burning of my hands and feet and was wondering if there is anything anyone has found over the counter to be effective, or at least partially effective, in relieving these symptoms? I did call the Enbrel support line and they are going to appeal the insurance companies decision and if that doesn't work will hopefully be able to help me in some way to get Enbrel, but with the holiday this isn't even going to start until Monday and I just don't know what to do. Any information anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. PJ
Guest guest
Hi Barbara, Thank you! The B12 rung a bell so I looked up old test results and in April of 2009 I had a B12 test done and my result was 309, range is 200 - 1000, so at that point I was within range but on the lower end. I will talk to my Dr about getting another test done. I'm so glad that helped your neuropathy! PJ
Guest guest
PJ, Have you tried Methotrexate? Its not OTC but it is cheaper than Enbrel if for some reason you can't get on the Enbrel. I sure hope you can get that worked out. I just don't' think its fair for them to not cover your RA. Bunch of BS in my book. Another option would be the Minocin therapy which is inexpensive. Go to roadback.org and research that option. Best of luck to you. In the mean time I enjoy warm baths and/or moist heating pad. > > Hi, > > > > My Dr took me permanently off Leflunomide because it was causing a worsening > of my peripheral neuropathy, my insurance company is refusing to cover > Enbrel because it is for a pre-existing condition (I was laid off and had to > get my own insurance which went into effect on Oct 1st) so right now I'm > having a lot of joint pain along with the tingling/numbness/burning of my > hands and feet and was wondering if there is anything anyone has found over > the counter to be effective, or at least partially effective, in relieving > these symptoms? > > > > I did call the Enbrel support line and they are going to appeal the > insurance companies decision and if that doesn't work will hopefully be able > to help me in some way to get Enbrel, but with the holiday this isn't even > going to start until Monday and I just don't know what to do. > > > > Any information anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. > > PJ > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi , Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to methotrexate so if I do get on Enbrel it will be the only drug I'm on. I've read where most people are on an Enbrel/Humira type drug and a methotrexate/Arava type drug at the same time, hopefully that isn't a necessity. Thank you very much for that link! I'm looking at it now. We don't really have a usable bathtub but a moist heating pad sounds good. Wish they had a full body one! :-) PJ
Guest guest
PJ, I can't take Methotrexate either and Arava didn't work well plus it gave me terrible diarrhea. So I am in the same boat as you with taking a biologic alone. I am on Enbrel, Minocin and Plaquenil. Don't know if the Minocin will do anything or not but gonna try it for several months atleast. Best of luck to you. > > Hi , > > > > Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to methotrexate so if I do get on > Enbrel it will be the only drug I'm on.
