Hi and welcome. It seems to be a very usual part of starting

out with IE to end up dealing with the changes in one's eating

patterns as a (horrors!) diet! SET 'rules', instant results are the

siren song of diets. IE is totally the opposite and that can and often

does feel so odd and uncomfortable mainly because the diet gremlin in

us continues to whisper in our heads - weight! weight! weight!

One secret I found via IE is that I was hearing that wrong - its not

weight, it WAIT! Wait for hunger, wait for the right taste, wait for

letting your body do and be the expert for YOU. etc. etc.

If you will just do one little thing at a time, I bet you will soon

find that you have adopted more IE than you realized. All or nothing,

black or white type thinking if dieting mentality. IE is a full

spectrum of choices and tastes to be enjoyed rather than feared or

dreaded.

Keep us posted on your IE journey!

Best to you - Katcha

I wish I could. I'm currently struggling with it big time again after

about a year of ND. I blame it on my upcoming exam. Worrying about

dieting and weight is much more bearable than failing my final exam

(well, I have three tries and luckily it's not a matter of intelligence

but a matter of time to repeat all the stuff of four years after having

worked for a year without much time to study, but I don't want to think

about what happens if I really should fail three times... I wouldn'd

know what to do then, but of course I have these thoughts in my head,

being a chronic worrier).

Like many times one has to point you to Katcha. :-)

I love her posts.

Regards

s.

For me I have to remind myself of one thing that rings true for me and

that is no diet is ever going to be the " answer " . There is no quick

fix, or food combo, or whatever that is going to " take care " of me and

my perceived " failings " with food.

Hang in there...

My best,

Hi , and welcome.

Rest assured it takes most people a fair while to shake off that diet

mentality – after all, it's all pervasive, surrounding us every day,

ingrained in the way our society thinks. Fighting off this mindset

and learning to eat intuitively takes practice. You learn from

experience, like many other skills in life.

Just remember, you want to achieve and maintain a healthy,

comfortable weight without being deprived of food or losing quality

of life. Long term change doesn't come from disgust or self-

rejection but from a realistic acceptance of who and what we are, and

from a desire to be the best person we can possibly be. So

developing a positive attitude towards your body will also motivate

you to want to look after your body, rather than punish it through

strict diets. By looking after yourself and your body in the best

and most positive way you can, hopefully your weight will evolve to

the healthiest level that is possible for you. It may not be

the " dream " weight you imagined you could reach in your dieting days,

but perhaps it's time to develop some more realistic expectations,

and make peace with who you're genetically programmed to be?

Think about all of the things we could all accomplish with the time

and energy we have wasted worrying about our appearance. I try to

remind myself – life is too short to waste time hating my body!

Health and vitality come in all types of body shapes and sizes.

Remember that nobody is perfect, and no body is perfect!

Good luck with this new phase of your life. We look forward to

hearing more from you.

Cheers

Thanks for all the support! I will do my best to trust this process

and try to gauge success based on how I feel more than what weight I am.
