Hi all,

Be carefull with treadmills. I purchased one 3 years ago. I'm having

problems with my feet. Whenever I go on the treadmill my toes and feet

hurt. It is manual. My cardiologist suggested it for me. So I had to

stopusing it. Then I joined a gym and used the electric one. The same

thing happened. So I am forced to walk outside. My feet don't hurt as much

from regular walking. When it rains and in the winter I go to the mall.

Early in the morning when the stores are closed. I only bring my drivers

license and leave the money and credit cards at home. I really enjoy it and

it doesn't cost me a dime.

Just a little insight on what I''ve tried.

I know that daylight savings started today but did I miss a month

somewhere? Gillian, our Mother's Day is in May. Of course, all

mothers can use all the special attention that they can get. It has

been raining here all weekend and old Arthur has been giving me

fits. I also would like a treadmill for days when it is too wet to

walk.

, Im glad that your spirits have lifted. We all know how

hard it is to cope with all the hurdles that are placed in our path

by insurance companies. I will be trying to get some answers from

them tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Hi, I'm trying this again. Hope some of you get it this time!

In a message dated 4/5/01 11:27:25 PM, Linman42 writes:

<< Moms

If you send this to just one person, it should make it all the way around the

world by Mother's Day.

This is for all the mothers who froze their buns off on metal bleachers at

football games Friday night instead of watching from cars, so that when their

kids asked, " Did you see me? " they could say, " Of course, I wouldn't have

missed it for the world, " and mean it.

This is for all the mothers who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in

their arms, wiping up barf laced with Mayer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid

saying, " It's OK honey, Mommy's here. "

This is for all the mothers of Kosovo who fled in the night and can't find

their children. This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll

never see. And, the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes.

This is for all the mothers of the victims of the Colorado shooting, and the

mothers of the murderers. For the mothers of the survivors, and the mothers

who sat in front of their TVs in horror, hugging their child who just came

home from school, safely.

This is for all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and sew

Halloween costumes. And, for all the mothers who DON'T. What makes a good

Mother anyway? Is it patience? Or, is it compassion? Is it broad hips?

Or, is it the ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button on a

shirt, all at the same time? Or, is it heart? Is it the ache you feel

when you watch your son or daughter disappear down the street, walking to

school alone for the very first time? Is it the jolt that takes you from

sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2 a.m. to put your hand on the back of a

sleeping baby? Is it the need to flee from wherever you are and hug your

child when you hear news of a school shooting, a fire, a car accident, a baby

dying?

This is for all the mothers who sat down with their children and explained

all about making babies. And, this is for all the mothers who wanted to but

just couldn't.

This is for reading " Goodnight, Moon " twice a night for a year. And then

reading it again, " Just one more time. "

This is for all the mothers who yell at their kids in the grocery store and

swat them in despair and stomp their feet like a tired 2-year old who wants

ice cream before dinner.

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to tie their shoelaces

before they started school. And, for all the mothers who opted for Velcro

instead. For all the mothers who bite their lips sometimes until they bleed

when their 14 year olds dye their hair green.

This is for all the mothers who lock themselves in the bathroom when babies

keep crying and won't stop.

This is for all the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair

and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse.

This is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook and their daughters

to sink a jump shot.

This is for all the mothers whose heads turn automatically when a little

voice calls " Mom? " in a crowd, even though they know their own offspring are

at home.

This is for mothers who put pinwheels and teddy bears on their children's

graves. This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, and who can't

find the words to reach them.

This is for all the mothers who sent their sons to school with stomach aches,

assuring them they'd be just FINE once they got there, only to get calls from

the school nurse an hour later asking them

to please pick them up right away.

This is for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep

deprivation. And mature mothers learning to let go. This is for working

mothers and stay-at-home mothers, single mothers and married mothers, mothers

with money, and mothers without.

This is for you all. So hang in there. Please pass along to all the moms

in your life. " Home is what catches you when you fall - and we all fall. "

Please pass this to a wonderful mother you know. (I just did)

A spa or a massage is a great idea!

I gave my mother (86) a few pedicures. This was not only a gift of mere

pampering but Mother has diabetes and is legally blind so she has to be very

careful of her ten little " tootsies. " She has her first one last week and LOVED

it and loved that the other old-timers at the YMCA, where she goes to do her

water aerobics, comment on her pretty and pink grandma colored toenails! The

elderly can be so cute and funny at times!

One year on MY birthday I sent Mother AND Daddy a dozen roses for the gift of

life they gave me. They were soooo surprised and it made me feel good to do

something really different.

FOR ALL CHILDREN on MOTHERS DAY!

" You Don't Love Me! "

How many times have your kids said or thought that?

Now that my children are parents themselves and old enough to understand what

motivates a mother, I will tell them just how much I loved them!

I loved you enough to put you off my lap, let go of your hand so you could learn

to stand and walk alone!

I loved you enough to make you return the item you stole to the store and say " I

stole this! "

I loved you enough to leave you for 2 hours while you cleaned the kitchen when

I could have done it in 15 minutes!

I loved you enough not to make excuses the few times you showed lack of respect

or bad manners!

I loved you enough to let you stumble, fall, and fail!

I loved you enough to let you discover your friend was a creep!

I loved you enough to ignore what you said " everybody else " got to do!

I loved you enough to have you buy your own car

I loved you enough to let you see me be angry, cry and laugh!

I loved you enough to say " NO " even when you hated me for it!

I love you enough to accept you JUST the way you are, not for what YOU thought,

I thought you should be!

I love you enough to admit I was not perfect, made mistakes and ask your

forgiveness!

I will always be there for you even when you say you don't want me to be.

I love you enough to have earned the right to be called your Mother.

Happy Mother's Day all!

Since I don't read and/or respond to the list over the weekend, I wanted to say

a:

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

to all you mom's out there (whether you have human children or the animal kind!

I fall as a Mom of the animal kind..well " spawn of satan " is more like it!)

What are you doing for your Mom on Mothers Day(or what are your children doing

for you)?

My Mom requested a picnic at the beach, so hopefully the weather will be nice!!

And my kids, God willing, will keep their presents in their respective backyard

or litterbox...

Anyone have any cool and/or strange gift ideas for Mom?

I know my friend is getting her Mom a trip to a Spa...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY !!

Knight Ridder News Service

By Lori Borgman

Expectant mothers waiting for a newborn's arrival say they don't care what

sex the baby is. They just want to have ten fingers and ten toes.

Mothers lie.

Every mother wants so much more. She wants a perfectly healthy baby with a

round head, rosebud lips, button nose, beautiful eyes and satin skin. She

wants a baby so gorgeous that people will pity the Gerber baby for being

flat-out ugly.

She wants a baby that will roll over, sit up and take those first steps right

on schedule (accoring to the baby development chart on page 57, column two).

Every mother wants a baby that can see, hear, run, jump and fire neurons by

the billions. She wants a kid that can smack the ball out of the park and do

toe points that are the envy of the enitre ballet class. Call it greed if you

want, but a mother wants what a mother wants.

Some mothers get babies with something more.

Maybe you're one who got a baby with a condition you couldn't pronounce, a

spine that didn't fuse, a missing chromosome or a palate that didn't close.

The doctor's words took your breath away. It was just like the time at recess

in the fourth grade when you didn't see the kick ball coming, and it knocked

the wind right out of you.

Some of you left the hospital with a healthy bundle, then, months, even years

later, took him in for a routine visit, or scheduled him for a checkup, and

crashed head first into a brick wall as you bore the brunt of devastating

news. It didn't seem possible. That didn't run in your family. Could this

really be happening in your lifetime?

There's no such thing as a perfect body. Everybody will bear something at

some time or another. maybe the affliction will be apparent to curious eyes,

or maybe it will be unseen, quietly treated with trips to the doctor, therapy

or surgery. Mothers of children with disabilities live the limitations with

them.

ly, I don't know how you do it. Sometimes you mothers scare me. How you

lift that kid in and out of the wheelchair twenty times a day. How you

monitor tests, track medications, and serve as the gatekeeper to a hundred

specialists yammering in your ear.

I wonder how you endure the cheches and the platitudes, the well-intetioned

souls explaining how God is at work when you've occasionally questioned if

God is on strike. I even wonder how you endure schmaltzy columns like this

one-saluting you, painting you as hero and saint, when you know you're

ordinary. You snap, you bark, you bite. You didn't volunteer for this, you

didn't jump up and down in the motherhood line yelling, " Choose me, God.

Choose me? I've got what it takes. "

You're a woman who doesn't have time to step back and put things in

perspective, so let me do it for you. From where I sit, you're way ahead of

the pack. You've developed the strenght of the draft horse while holding onto

the delicacy of a daffodil. You have a heart that melts like chocolate in a

glove box in July, counter-balanced against the stubbornness of an Ozark mule.

You are the mother, advocate and protector of a child with a disability.

You're a neighbor, a friend, a woman I pass at church and my sister-in-law.

You're a wonder.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

Awww, ,

That really hit home today!

Kate went to Six Flags with her class today, so it was just Karrie and

me. I had planned to clean my house, which needs it desparately.

Instead, Karrie and I went to town. We went to a thrift store that has

stuff I can use in my EI work. Then we went to Wal-Mart. Karrie walked

beside the cart (well, kinda!). I had so much more patience than usual.

It took us 3 hours to get through Wal-Mart. We looked at whatever caught

her eye.

At one point, she was coming up behind me and grabbing my leg. I would

turn around like she scared me. It was at that moment I realized that

those fits of giggles are worth the worry, work, whatever else goes with

being a mom.

And today, we got our shares of looks. But I know that my joy and my

pride and my love probably changed some people's prospectives today.

Sue mom to Kate 12 and Karrie (who was 6 on Monday)
