If you send this to just one person, it should make it all the way around by

Mother's Day in May. This is for all the mothers who have sat up all night with

sick toddlers in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Mayer wieners and

cherry Kool-Aid saying, " It's OK honey, Mommy's here. " when they keep crying

and won't stop.

This is for all the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and

milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse.

For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and sew Halloween

costumes. And all the mothers who DON'T.

This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see. And the

mothers who took those babies and gave them homes.

This is for all the mothers who froze their buns off on metal bleachers at

football or soccer games Friday night instead of watching from cars, so that

when their kids asked, " Did you see me? " they could say, " Of course, I wouldn't

have missed it for the World, " and mean it.

This is for all the mothers who yell at their kids in the grocery store and swat

them in despair when they stomp their feet like a tired 2-year old who wants ice

cream before dinner.

This is for all the mothers who sat down with their children and explained all

about making babies. And for all the mothers who wanted to but just couldn't.

For all the mothers who read " Goodnight, Moon " twice a night for a year. And

then read it again. " Just one more time. "

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to tie their shoelaces

before they started school. And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro

instead. This is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook and their

daughters to sink a jump shot.

This is for all mothers whose heads turn automatically when a little voice

calls " Mom ? " in a crowd, even though they know their own off spring are at

home.

This is for all the mothers who sent their kids to school with stomach aches,

assuring them they'd be just FINE once they got there, only to get calls from

the school nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up right away.

This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, who can't find the words to

reach them.

For all the mothers who bite their lips sometimes until they bleed--when their

14 year olds dye their hair green.

What makes a good Mother anyway? Is it patience? Compassion? Broad hips? The

ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button on a shirt, all at the

same time?

Or is it heart? Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son or daughter

disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the very first time?

The jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed to crib 2 A.M. to put your

hand on the back of a sleeping baby?

The need to flee from wherever you are and hug your child when you hear news of

a fire, a car accident, a child dying? For all the mothers of the victims of

all these school shootings, and the mothers of those who did the shooting. For

the mothers of the Survivors, and the mothers who sat in front of their TVs in

horror, hugging their child who just came home from school, safely.

This is for mothers who put pinwheels and teddy bears on their children's

graves.

This is for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep

deprivation. And mature mothers learning to let go.

For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers. Single mothers and married

Mothers. Mothers with money, mothers without.

This is for you all. So hang in there. Please pass along to all the Mom s in

your life. " Home is what catches you when you fall - and we all fall. "

Please pass this to a wonderful mother you know.

I JUST DID!!! ;-)

Happy Mothers Day to you all!!!

Thanks Fania- and Happy Mother's Day to all here- yes, you Dads too,

because the Dads who love their kids enough to join a group like this, have

probably done a lot of those traditionally Mom things...

We are sitting at lunch one day when my daughter casually mentions that she

and her husband are thinking of " starting a family. "

" We're taking a survey, " she says half-joking. " Do you think I should have a

baby? " " It will change your life, " I say, carefully keeping my tone neutral.

" I know, " she says, " no more sleeping in on weekends, no more spontaneous

vacations. "

But that is not what I meant at all. I look at my daughter, trying to decide

what to tell her. I want her to know what she will never learn in childbirth

classes.

I want to tell her that the physical wounds of child bearing will heal, but

becoming a mother will leave her with an emotional wound so raw that she will

forever be vulnerable.

I consider warning her that she will never again read a newspaper without

asking, " What if that had been MY child? " That every plane crash, every house

fire will haunt her. That when she sees pictures of starving children, she will

wonder if anything could be worse than watching your child die.

I look at her carefully manicured nails and stylish suit and think that no

matter how sophisticated she is, becoming a mother will reduce her to the

primitive level of a bear protecting her cub.

That an urgent call of " Mom! " will cause her to drop a souffl?r her best

crystal without a moments hesitation. I feel that I should warn her that no

matter

how many years she has invested in her career, she will be professionally

derailed by motherhood.

She might arrange for childcare, but one day she will be going into an

important business meeting and she will think of her baby's sweet smell.

She will have to use every ounce of discipline to keep from running home,

just to make sure her baby is all right. I want my daughter to know that every

day decisions will no longer be routine.

That a five year old boy's desire to go to the men's room rather than the

women's at Mc's will become a major dilemma. That right there, in the

midst

of clattering trays and screaming children, issues of independence and gender

identity will be weighed against the prospect that a child molester may be

lurking in that restroom.

However decisive she may be at the office, she will second-guess herself

constantly as a mother.

Looking at my attractive daughter, I want to assure her that eventually she

will shed the pounds of pregnancy, but she will never feel the same about

herself. That her life, now so important, will be of less value to her once she

has

a child.

That she would give up everything in a moment to save her offspring, but will

also begin to hope for more years, not to accomplish her own dreams, but to

watch her child accomplish theirs.

I want her to know that a caesarean scar or shiny stretch marks will become

badges of honor.

My daughter's relationship with her husband will change, but not in the way

she thinks.

I wish she could understand how much more you can love a man who is careful

to powder the baby or who never hesitates to play with his child.

I think she should know that she will fall in love with him again for reasons

she would now find very unromantic.

I wish my daughter could sense the bond she will feel with women throughout

history who have tried to stop war, prejudice and drunk driving.

I hope she will understand why I can think rationally about most issues, but

become temporarily insane when I discuss the threat of nuclear war to my

children's future.

I want to describe to my daughter the exhilaration of seeing your child learn

to ride a bike.

I want to capture for her the belly laugh of a baby who is touching the soft

fur of a dog or cat for the first time.

I want her to taste the joy that is so real it actually hurts.

My daughter's quizzical look makes me realize that tears have formed in my

eyes. " You'll never regret it, " I finally say. Then I reached across the table,

squeezed my daughter's hand and offered a silent prayer for her, and for me, and

for all the mere mortal women who stumble their way into this most

wonderful of callings.

Hi Everyone,

Sat. night we had a banquet for the ladies at church. During the banquet there

was a fashion show and my was in it along with 5 other girls. It was so

cute and so funny. wore 3 different outfits. One was a turtle neck shirt

with turtles on the neck because it was a " turtle " neck. One was a gown with

balls attached to it because it was a " ball " gown, and the other was a sweat

suit because was a " sweater " she sweats. :-) Some of the other girls

outfits were a dress with carrots on it because it was a 24 karat dress, one was

pants with bells for bell bottoms, and one was a T shirt with golf tees attached

to it because it was a " tee " shirt. We had such a blast.

Subject: HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Great story forwarded to me by a friend... Happy Mother's Day!

So, we have this great 10 year old cat named Jack; he's a great cat and the

kids carry him around and sit on him and nothing ever bothers him. He hangs

out and naps all day long on the mat in our bathroom. Well we have 3 kids

and at the time of this story they were 4, 3, and 1 year old. The middle one

is Eli. Eli really loves chapstick. LOVES it! He kept asking to use my

chapstick and then losing it. So finally one day I showed him where in the

bathroom I keep my chapstick and how he could use it whenever he wanted to,

but he needed to put it right back in the drawer when he was done.

Last year on Mother's Day, we were having the typical rush to get ready for

Church with everyone crying and carrying on. My two boys are fighting over

the toy in the cereal box. I am trying to nurse my little one at the same

time I am putting on my make-up. Everything is a mess and everyone has long

forgotten that this is a wonderful day to honor me and the amazing job that

is motherhood. We finally have the older one and the baby loaded in the car

and I am looking for Eli. I have searched everywhere and I finally round the

corner to go into the bathroom. And there was Eli. He was applying my

chapstick very carefully to Jack's . . . rear end. Eli looked right into my

eyes and said " chapped. " Now if you have a cat, you know that he is right -

their little butts do look pretty chapped. And, frankly, Jack didn't seem to

mind. And the only question to really ask at that point was whether it was

the FIRST time Eli had done that to the cat's behind or the hundredth,

carefully putting it back for me after each time. And that's my favorite

Mother's Day moment ever because it reminds us that no matter how hard we

try to civilize these glorious little people, there will always be that day

when you realize they've been using your chapstick on the cat's butt.

Subject: Happy Mothers Day

I woke up this morning to a beautiful,

sunshiny, cool and crisp morning. As I placed my feet on the floor my husband

said, " Happy Mothers Day " and a feeling rushed over me. It was a

feeling like no other.

Happy MOTHERS Day! You see I recall the days when being a mama was a mere

dream, something I wanted so bad but was told would never happen. Docs told my

parents and I that children would never be in my future so I lived

with that. I went through a sour grapes phase and tried to convince myself that

I did not really want children. The way the world is why would I want to bring

them into this craziness BUT the truth is I wanted children more than anything.

I wanted to be called mama, mom and now mother ( is going through this phase and calls

me mother). I wanted to feel the tenderness of a small baby in my arms, I

wanted to feel unconditional love, I wanted to play in the park and I guess

somewhere under it all I also wanted to be a chauffer, a nurse, a

counselor, a teacher, a maid, a referee, and everything thing else that comes

under the title mom.

I have had the honor of being daughter to

the best mom in the world and so many of lifes lessons come from her as do most

of my good traits....shh, don't tell dad I said that...... This has been a

tough year. I almost lost my dad, my mom had heart problems and I had to fight

to continue being mom and daughter.

MOM is my favorite word in the English

language. It carries so much weight and so much pride and honor and dignity.

I am so blessed to have my mom and to be

mom. My heart feels so full this morning to have these blessings.

If you are a mom you are sure to know the

feeling, to those whose moms are here with you let them know how proud you are

of them and to those who have the heartache of knowing your mom has passed on

look to the sky, she will hear you, and thank her...moms truly are the

greatest!

Happy moms day to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
