Guest guest
The medications we have to take cause different skin reactions from being in the sun. I'm not allowed to use a tanning bed anymore because it will burn me bad. It upsets me because the heat helped my joints tremendously. Try using one of those big floppy hats when you take your nephew to Great America. It will keep the sun out of your face and they are always in style. Just an idea. Big Hugs To You. Shay in Rainy Michigan -- [ ] weird frekles, facial brown patches, and rollercoasters... The other day I was driving and the sun was blazing on my face. The next day I noticed a large brown patch, not just freckels. My skin seems to be looking very thin, almost stretched out and wrinkled. I want to take my nephew to Great America, but I am nervous about all the walking and standing around in line, then the actual ride itself. I dont know what I was thinking when I mentioned it to him. Guest guest
Sunscreen! Sunscreen! SUNSCREEN! I am VERY fair complected. I started FREAKING OUT when I got patches of what I THOUGHT were " age spots " on my face. Ran to a dermatologist. She told me it is simply hyperpigmentation of the skin due to sun exposure. Basically what it is IS a big freckle! Not harmful just... way ugly! Her advice: Stay out of the sun! If I must go into the sun, cover up, wear hats to shield my face, and oh... SUNSCREEN! And yes.... The medications we take sometimes make us more susceptible to stuff like this. *~ Kami ~* [ ] weird frekles, facial brown patches, and rollercoasters... Guest guest
Hi Darlene - so many of our medications make us sensitive to sun exposure. How about a wheel chair or scooter and 50+ spf sun screen with wide brimmed hat? Get creative. I'm sure your nephew would love to go no matter how you have to get around. We took my daughter to Animal Kingdom for her 16th birthday and I rode a scooter the whole day. It was wonderful and she didn't care that I had to use the scooter - she was just glad that I went. Best of luck to you.....Doreen The other day I was driving and the sun was blazing on my face. The next day I noticed a large brown patch, not just freckels. Guest guest
I just found out this summer that I am extremely sun sensitive. I went on vacation and used the 50+ sunscreen and still got brown patches and broke out in a rash. then ended up with burning feeling on my arms and bottoms of my feet. Once I had been out of the sun about a week it all went away. I know the sunscreen had done its job because I am very white skinned and I didn't even get any burn or even pink. I am just going to have to wear long sleeves and use an umbrella because sunscreen isn't sufficient enough for me. Good luck to you. Just wanted to share my experience. > > The other day I was driving and the sun was blazing on my face. Guest guest
Hi Darlene, I'm running late getting online today. Most of the meds we take, keep us out of the sun. I have a terrible time, and I don't have to be out but a few minutes, and I'm super red. Make sure you use plenty of sunblock. I stay in most of the time, in the summer months. It's just too much for my skin. I know how you feel about going places like that. Do they rent scooters or wheelchairs? I went to an amusement park last year, they had a lot of places to park my butt, and that is just what I did. I hope your able to go, it will be fun, Tawny > > The other day I was driving and the sun was blazing on my face. Guest guest
Shay, When I was first diagnosed with RA, they put me on mtx. I didn't believe it would hurt, so I used a tanning bed. I got some brown scarring on my face and neck. So now, I listen:) Have a good day, Tawny > > The medications we have to take cause different skin reactions from being in > the sun. Guest guest
Tawny, When I first got RA I was also put on MTX but was never told not to use a tanning bed. I used one daily because it made my joints feel so good. After I was put on Enbrel was when I discovered I could no longer use one. I would burn bad. The only thing that has been said about a tanning bed is this past horrible year with my hubbys insurance not covering Enbrel my rheumy's trying to get the Healthwell foundation to cover Remicade for me (which they haven't gotten back to us in a couple months now on that) she told me that with Remicade I would have to avoid the sun. I asked her about tanning beds and she said absolutely not. Big Hugs To you Shay, Michigan -- [ ] Re: weird frekles, facial brown patches, and rollercoasters... Guest guest
Gees!!! No one has ever told me to NOT get out in the sun or a tanning bed with any of those drugs except there was a warning on the bottle of minocin! I go every day just about and I thought I was the only one that felt like it made my joints feel better! I am glad I am not the only one! Now I have never been on remicade but I have been on enbrel, humira & rituxan - no warnings. Although I have blonde hair & blue eyes - without sun - I appear to be fair skinned but I tan very easily. My mother is also blonde but she can't take any sun - however my dad is dark skinned brunette. So - I offer no explanation as to why I have never had problems - but if they actually tell you to stay out of the sun, then you should always follow orders.. ltdavis_jrdavis@... Guest guest
Shay, Make sure you read all the info you get with your medication. The doctors usually don't tell you this stuff. You might call Healthwell, and find out what's going on. It usually don't take that long. Guest guest
, You are right, follow orders. When I was first diagnosed, I was stubborn, and I didn't want to deal with it. I took the mtx, but still laid in the tanning bed and sunbathed outside:( Totally stupid! Now, my poor skin is showing the scars from it all. Most of my meds keep me out of the sun. I can't even stand to be in it for 10 minutes. I'm glad this subject was brought up, it will help, Tawny
Guest guest
Tawny, I used to read EVERYTHING that came with my meds because I'm allergic to most meds but when it said anything about the sun I must admit I just kinda ignored it because the sun never bothered me. It was my own fault for using a tanning bed with the Enbrel. Now I ask for paperwork on any meds my rheumy plans on putting me on so I will know the side effects before hand. Yes, I was wondering what was taking Heathwell so long but when I first called to get the paperwork started, I told the lady I spoke to that I had sever RA and what does she do? Sends me paperwork on Breast Cancer to fill out. So I had to call them back and tell them they had made a mistake. That I didn't have Breast Cancer, I have RA. So they sent paperwork on RA which I filled out and had my rheumy fill her part out and they faxed it to Healthwell while I was there. I got another letter that my rheumy had not filled out her paperwork. GRRRR It has been a lot of " run around " . *Hugs To You* Shay -- [ ] Re: weird frekles, facial brown patches, and rollercoasters... Guest guest
, Yes, I mainly used a tanning bed because of my joints. Sure made them feel so much better and I miss it. As for tanning, I have always had a problem burning...especially in the sun but in a tanner I never burned until the Enbrel. *Hugs to You* Shay -- Re: [ ] Re: weird frekles, facial brown patches, and rollercoasters... Guest guest
Shay, Don't feel bad, I always have problems with paperwork too. It makes me crazy sometimes!!! When your in pain, and then you have to do someone's job, it really bites. I would sure call them tomorrow, see what's been going on, it wouldn't hurt. I can't believe they sent you a app for something else, you just never know what goes on anymore. Some people either have their cell phone velcroed to their ear, or texting, I don't see how people get anything done. I hope you get some good news, let me know, Tawny > > Tawny, > I used to read EVERYTHING that came with my meds because I'm allergic to > most meds but when it said anything about the sun I must admit I just kinda > ignored it because the sun never bothered me.
